Where’s The Water

This morning, I started out my day with a glass of lemon water and a Chobani caramel pineapple yogurt.

Oh my gosh, that caramel pineapple yogurt was the best Chobani yogurt that I have ever tried. Usually, I’m not the type the person who thinks of fruit or yogurt as a dessert – I think ice cream and chocolate are desserts, but I could see myself eating this yogurt as a dessert. It was delicious.

I drink a glass of water as soon as I wake up every single morning. I add a lemon slice when I have them on hand. This helps keeps me hydrated as well as jumps starts my metabolism for the day.

And I will admit that Danny brings me my cup of water to me every morning while I’m sleeping, so I literally drink it the second I wake up before my feet even hit the floor. He’s such a great husband. I cook dinner every night, so it’s kind of an even trade-off, right? :)

Today’s Workout

  • 4.18 miles treadmill, walked – 60 minutes

I used today as a “take it easy day,” and just walked on the treadmill. My shoulder hurts and running just makes it hurt more, plus my body is just tired, so I just walked.

Last night, I iced my shoulder and took Advil. This morning I put the heating pad on it, and took more Advil. I plan to ice it on and off during the day. Even after my walk it was pretty sore.

You know how you typically burn one hundred calories per mile, whether you walk or run? Well, that was exactly true today because according to the treadmill, I walked 4.18 miles and burned 4.18 calories.

I’m the kind of person who tends to stick to the same foods everyday. When I find something that’s good and easy to make, I usually eat the same thing for a long period of time. Lately that’s been Special K, bagel thins and egg whites, PB french toast, and veggie omelets. Every single day.

I decided to look through my old food journals and find some foods that I like but haven’t eaten in a while. So, after the gym, I stopped at the grocery store to pick up ingredients for flatbread pizzas and cheese & veggie quesadillas.

I used to eat those two foods a lot but haven’t had them in a while. This time I bought the smaller tortillas that are 50 calories a piece, and I’ll use two to make the quesadillas. I bought pre-cooked chicken to add to Danny’s. I also found pineapple salsa, which I can’t wait to try.

I have frozen tilapia that I think the pineapple salsa would be good on too. I like pineapple and mango salsas better than regular salsa. Maybe because I’m not a huge tomato fan.

Have a great weekend!

Questions of the day:

  • Do you like salsa? Favorite kind? Mild or spicy?
  • Any workout today?
  • Favorite go-to meal?

Sweet Tooth

Last Night’s Workout

  • 2.33 miles treadmill

We had a family night at the gym last night – actually the kids went to the kid’s room while Danny and I worked out. I didn’t go to yoga, I spent 30 minutes on the treadmill instead.

Danny’s picture is blurry because I was running so fast. No, no I wasn’t. We went to the gym shortly after dinner, so running on a full stomach wasn’t going to happen. Instead I walked and jogged on the treadmill for 30 minutes while Danny did weights.

I got another Bingo stamp and only need one more stamp to fill my second card.

Also, while we were there, Jaden put his letter to Santa into the Santa Mailbox.

Apparently, Jacob is too old to write a letter to Santa.

Today’s Workout

  • 1.3 miles treadmill
  • Step + Sculpt Class = 60 minutes

Total Pile on the Miles: 46.53

Usually when I am on the treadmill, I feel like I have to run or jog in order to get a good workout. But I don’t think this is true – I think walking can be just as a good workout. You just need to get your body moving! So, this morning, instead of running I just decided to walk on the treadmill at about a 4.0 mph pace. I finished 1.3 miles in about 19 minutes and then went to Step+Strength class.

Today’s lunch was quick and easy because I was hungry!

I had egg whites and provolone cheese on a bagel thin with carrots, hummus, and blueberry Greek yogurt. I also had a mini 3 Musketeers bar to crave my sweet tooth. Only 24 calories.

I notice that I always crave something sweet after I eat lunch and dinner. It’s gotten better since I’ve started eating more protein, and I have learned to control it better, but I will always have a sweet tooth. Carbs and candy are the two best things in life! :)

This afternoon, I’m off to pick up my niece and hopefully get some Christmas wrapping done! I can’t believe that tomorrow is the last day of November already!

Questions of the day:

  • Do you prefer running or walking?
  • Do you have a sweet tooth?
  • Do your kids write letters to Santa? Did you write letters to Santa as a child?

Walking, Skateboarding, and Chocolate

Yesterday morning after breakfast, Danny and I took the kids to a local trail and walked for about two miles.

Two miles is about all Jaden can handle before he throws himself on the ground in defeat, moaning that he can’t possibly walk another step. We’re usually right next to the car when this happens.

Afterwards, we dropped my niece off at home and visited with my mom, brother, and sister-in-law a bit. Then, we took the kids to a skate park. Jacob has been skateboarding for about a month, and he is really into it.

I get a little nervous bringing him to the skate park because there’s usually a bunch of teenage boys there, and he’s just a beginner and I don’t want him to get in the way. I’ve seen those kids fall and it’s not pretty.

There was a handful of teenagers skating when we got there yesterday, and I told Jacob just to make sure he didn’t get in the way and to do his own thing. One of the kids skating was very nice and said that the kids were fine and offered to move so they could go down the ramps and stuff.

I feel like you don’t often come across teenagers that are so nice to little kids, especially when they’re kind of invading their space, so I very impressed with this kid and how he acted towards Jacob and Jaden.

Later in the afternoon, we met up with my family at Bamboo Spoon for some frozen yogurt. I ate really good yesterday, and made sure that the frozen yogurt stayed within my daily calories. Although, I usually have to estimate the calories in the toppings.

His and hers fro-yo:

After eating our frozen yogurt, we walked around the stores for a little while. My dad wanted to take us to this little chocolate cafe where they serve awesome chocolates, coffee, and chocolate martinis.

Sitting in the martini room:

Look at these chocolate! Aren’t they awesome?!

Awesome, but expensive. $14 for eight little chocolates. We didn’t buy any, but we stared longingly at them for a while.

My step-mom mentioned this girl scout 5k to me a while back, and I forgot about it until I saw an ad for it in the new Competitor magazine.

When you cross the finish line, you get a box of girl scout cookies! How cool is that?! Bring on the thin mints!

Questions of the day:

  • Do you ever exercise with your kids or significant other?
  • Ever come across a person that was not what you thought? I expected those teenage boys to be mad about the kids being in their way, but they proved me wrong.
  • Ever been to a chocolate cafe? What’s your favorite kind of chocolate?
  • Favorite girl scout cookie?

Baby Ducks and Coffee Make me Happy

First things first – the winners of the mix1 protein shake giveaway! Congrats to #10 – Amanda Garvey and #22 – suerocks30. Please email your address to [email protected] asap so that I can get your info to mix1!

Last night for dinner, I had potato crusted cod, green beans, and a strawberry spinach salad. The first time I ever tried cod was when I bought it on accident, and I have actually liked it ever since. And everything is better with potatoes…or cheese.

I tried out the Panera poppy seed dressing on my salad and thought that it was just okay. I have never had the actual dressing from Panera itself, so I can’t compare the two, but I have had the Annie’s poppy seed dressing, and I think it has more flavor than the Panera version. I still ate every single bite; I just think I like the Annie’s better.

After dinner, we took a family walk around the block.

Do you love how stylish Jacob and I are? Running shoes go with everything right?

This morning, I finally had the Van’s blueberry muffin crown for breakfast. I had two egg whites on the side. I thawed my muffin crown in the microwave, but you can actually cook them in the oven for 12-15 minutes. I’m going to try that next time.

I really liked this muffin crown because it was more like a thick muffin rather than a thin muffin top, and I love blueberries!

Today’s Workout

  • Butts and Guts Class – 60 minutes

I bought a new Under Amour shirt from Dick’s Sporting Goods over the weekend that I wore to the gym today.

I love this shirt, and I love the blue color. I usually always find myself buying clothes in black, but on my family’s advice, I went with the blue shirt.

I don’t usually buy clothes from sporting good stores (unless they’re on sale!) because stores like TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, and Target have similar stuff for so much cheaper. But I fell in love with this shirt. I love the color, the fit, and the neckline. I even went back to Dick’s after my workout to see if they had any other colors, but they didn’t have any in my size.

Today’s Butts and Guts class was really hard. I think my legs are still sore from run/walking 5 miles yesterday, and we did lots of step work and lunges in class today that my legs didn’t enjoy. I kind of felt like I deserved a coffee treat after my workout, so I stopped at McDonald’s for a medium sugar-free iced coffee. Those things are good!

I checked how many calories were in it on my iPod before we left the gym, and there’s only 90 calories in a medium, so I figured that wouldn’t break the calorie bank. I also packed some raspberry Fage Greek yogurt and Fiber One cereal.

I have never seen raspberry Fage yogurt before, so when I saw it at the store yesterday, I picked one up to try. I wasn’t really a big fan of it. I think I’ll stick to the blueberry and strawberry flavors.

Jaden and I also spent some time watching the new tiny baby duckies. I love baby animals!

Question of the day:

  • What are your favorite stores to shop at? For workout clothes? For regular clothes?
  • What’s your favorite color to wear?
  • Favorite coffee?

A Walk in the Park

Yesterday’s Workout

  • BodyPump

One of the nice things about losing weight, is that your clothes fit better, and clothes that maybe you shoved away in your dresser drawers because they were too tight, start to fit again. I was searching through my workout clothes, looking for something to wear to BodyPump, and I pulled out a shirt that was stuffed in the back of my drawer because it didn’t fit anymore. I figured I’d just try it on and see what happened.

And it fit! I can’t even tell you the last time that I wore this shirt because it has been so long. I was very happy that it actually fit. And I think that the last time I wore this shirt, I weighed less than I do now. I think it fits because I have been taking BodyPump since October. And although, I may weigh a bit more, I have more muscle and am more tone than I used to be.

Losing weight sure is hard though. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been tempted to eat half a bag of chocolate chips. Some chocolate chips usually find their way into my mouth, but at least it’s not half the bag.

Last night, we went to Subway for dinner, then we headed out to a trail that my dad and stepmom told me about. It’s closer than the one I normally got to, and I’m always up for a change of scenery!

When we got there, we saw that they had a fitness course with signs on how to complete the exercises, so we played around on that for a while.

Obviously, Danny is a better jumper than I am.

Danny and I walked, Jaden rode his bike, and Jacob rollerbladed. We walked about 1.5 miles before we had to leave for a potty break.

Tomorrow is the Mother’s Day race. Marlene picked up my race bib and goody bag for me so I’d have it before the race.

I got a fun Run Like a Mother t-shirt.

And a Luna bar and some laundry detergent. I was actually excited about the laundry detergent. Who doesn’t love free laundry detergent?

I save every single one of my race shirts, but I don’t wear them. Ever. I prefer working out in a tank top, and I don’t like the crew neck on race t-shirts. I’m not sure why I save all of them. I guess just for memories.

This morning, I actually slept in to 7:45 am! I didn’t think that I would sleep that late, and had plans to go to yoga this morning. Luckily, I woke up just in time to get to yoga. I stopped at Dunkin Donuts on the way home for coffee. I haven’t had DD coffee in over a month, and it was good.

I didn’t have time to eat before yoga, so I came home super hungry. I had a bowl of peanut butter Cheerios that I picked up at Target. Sorry, Fiber Worms, you’re being pushed to the back shelf to make room for the peanut butter Cheerios. They taste better.

After breakfast, I went to the shoe store and bought an early Mother’s Day present to myself.

I hope all you moms out there have a great Mother’s Day tomorrow!

Questions of the day:

  • Do you save your race t-shirts? Do you wear them?
  • What’s the best thing you’ve ever gotten in a race goody bag?
  • Any plans for Mother’s Day?
