Fun Valentine’s Day Ideas

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! I know some people aren’t into Valentine’s Day, but I like to look at Valentine’s Day as a day to celebrate those you love whether it be a spouse, significant other, mom, dad, grandparent, or kids, etc.

Today I wanted to share a few different Valentine’s Day ideas with you.

For the past couple of years, I’ve left a trail of Hersey kisses for the kids leading from their rooms to the kitchen table where there is a special Valentine’s Day treat waiting.

They love collecting the Kisses all the way down the stairs!

Some years I make a fancy dinner for Danny and the kids. The kids love getting menus like they’re at a restaurant!

I’ve also made a fun Valentine’s Day cake for a family dessert on Valentine’s Day.

A heart shaped cookie is also a cute idea and easy to make.

As a present for Danny one year, I made a Man Bouquet which included mini alcohol bottles, gum cigars, a coupon for free Coke, and candy.

One year for Danny, I cut out 365 hearts. One each heart, I wrote something I loved about Danny, a favorite memory, a love quote, or song lyrics. I put them all in a bag and each day of the year Danny could pick one out and read it! If you plan on doing this, I would recommend getting an early start on it. It took a long time to cut out 365 hearts and write on all of them!

Another great gift for your mom or sister would be a pampering in a jar gift. I made these for Christmas a few years ago but they’d also be great for Valentine’s Day!

The jar included things like fuzzy socks, lotion, lip balm, and chocolate. There are so many things you could put in one of these jars.

And there you have it! Some fun Valentine’s Day ideas!

A New Plan

Good morning! I hope you all had a great Valentine’s Day yesterday!

I had a fun surprise waiting on my doorstep when I woke up.

A present from my dad! Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating all the loved ones in your life.

And I will be celebrating those giant peppermint patties :)

I usually leave a trail of Hershey kisses for the kid’s to find in the morning, but this year I made a series of different clues that lead them to a special Valentine’s Day surprise.

They loved following the clues around the house to find their surprise!

After the kids went to school, I went to the gym. I am still taking it easy, so I did the following stretches/exercises for my hip and glutes:

  • clam shells
  • bridges
  • one-legged bridges
  • band walking side-to-side
  • lying glute stretch
  • plank
  • side plank

Yesterday’s plank day #14 – 1:30. I finished my workout with an easy 30 minutes on the Arc trainer.

I have really been trying hard to eat better lately.

Yogurt with granola:

Fajitas on lettuce wraps with salt-free seasoning:

Veggie pizza with apples:

I really would like to lose a little weight and really focus on toning. Weight loss is all about eating healthy and clean. That’s the part that I sometimes struggle with because I love my sweets, but I really have some goals that I would like to accomplish. I will be starting a new diet plan on Monday and will be a bit different from how I eat now and I really hope it’ll help me see results.

I love working out and could spend all day in the gym. It’s the eating part that I struggle with and that’s the most important part! I am excited about starting this new plan, and I really hope I can follow it perfectly.

Today, is Jaden’s birthday party with his friends from school and tomorrow is his family party. It’s going to be a busy weekend!

Have a great day!

Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day!

My wonderful husband is so funny…and knows me too well. This morning, sitting on the kitchen table was an empty bag of candy hearts…and a snack size Ziploc filled with 10 candy hearts.

I was kind of confused at first . Then Danny told me that he know how much I love candy hearts but always get mad at myself for eating way too many. So, he opened the bag and pre-portioned all of the candy hearts into single serving bags! Each bag has 10 candy hearts and is 120 calories.

Oh, and he brought all the other bags to work with him, so I couldn’t eat them even if I wanted. Well played, Danny. Well played.

Oh my gosh, I love him. He said he wasn’t sure how I’d take it – if I’d be mad or think it was funny. I thought it was pretty clever of him to come up with that. And it made me realize that ten candy hearts for 120 calories sure seems like a lot.

He also got me delicious chocolate covered strawberries.

My wonderful Dad also got me a little present.

Wine glasses filled with chocolate! What a sweet Dad I have :) He also got a tiny bottle of Godiva liqueur for me and a tiny Jack for Danny.

I left a trail of Hershey kisses down the stairs for the kids, and they both had a little present waiting for them on the table. And yes, those are Christmas Hershey kisses. I had a whole bag leftover!

I’m saving all my Valentine’s treats for later and started the day off by heading to the gym.

Today’s Workout

  • 4.59 miles, treadmill

That’s the farthest I’ve gone in a while!

My right calf is still very tight and sore, so I wasn’t able to run too much. I alternated between walking and running for about an hour.

Awhile ago, I has diagnosed with compartment syndrome basically meaning my calf muscles are too tight in their sheaths. Some days they are worse than others, but lately they’ve been pretty sore. I am trying to remember to stretch and foam roll and will slowly try to ease back into running.

Post workout snack was a cranberry almond simple bar.

This afternoon, I am have Jaden’s Valentine’s Day party at school, and when we get home, I’m going to make our special Valentine’s Day dinner.

On the menu:

  • Caesar salad
  • Stuffed shells
  • Garlic bread
  • Funfetti cake (and chocolate covered strawberries!)

My sprinkles got a little crazy.

Enjoy your day!

  • Do you ever pre-portion food?

  • Favorite dessert?

Thanks for the Warning

Happy Valentine’s Day!

It has been such a busy day, and I finally have a second to rest.

This morning started out with a trail of Hershey’s kisses leading out of Jacob and Jaden’s rooms to a special treat at the kitchen table. They loved following the Hershey’s kisses all the way downstairs.

I also made heart-shaped pancakes for a special Valentine’s Day breakfast. I couldn’t really get them to look like perfect hearts, but they still turned out okay.

Danny got me chocolate covered strawberries from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. I ate two of them after lunch, and they were so delicious. I only dropped about 50 hints over the weekend that I was dying for these strawberries.

I made him a little basket thing filled with mini alcohol bottles, coupons for free Coke 12 packs, bubble gum cigars, and candy. I thought it turned out so cute! It’s a Man Bouquet. I got the idea from Christy”s Blog via Pinterest.

After the Valentine’s exchanges, I went to my 8 am dentist appointment, and was there for about seven minutes. They took an X-ray and said that I needed wisdom tooth out. Oh, and they said they would need $60. That’s an expensive seven minutes! I have an appointment set up for next week to have it removed.

Today’s Workout

  • 20 minutes elliptical
  • Cardio Fit & Tone Class

After the dentist, I went to gym for a workout before my dermatologist appointment. After my workout, I had a thinkThin Crunch bar. These are my favorite bars because they remind me of candy bars, but with less sugar and more protein.

Then, I got Jaden from the kid’s room, and we went to my appointment.

Dermatologist Appointment

The dermatologist removed my mole. She cut it out and stitched my shoulder up. My mole is gone.

To be honest, I’m a bit shocked. I wasn’t really expecting that to happen. And it all happened so fast. One minute I had a mole, the next minute I didn’t. Bam! See ya, mole.

She did say that I’d have a nice scar to replace it though.

Actually, I kind of liked that mole. Unless, of course, it was cancerous. Then, I hate it. But I kind of felt like it was my Marilyn Monroe mole, but on my shoulder. Now it’s gone and I have stitches that are killing my arm. And I’m still going to BodyPump tomorrow.

Oh, and I have to go back to get another mole surgically moved. They said that they’re suspicious looking moles. Great. I should have the results from today’s mole biopsy soon.

After all the dentist and doctor appointments, I came home and took a quick shower to get ready for Jacob’s Valentine’s Day party. The kids had a great time at the party.

Tonight, Danny and I are going out to dinner at Bonefish Grill, so at least I have that to look forward too.

Questions of the Day:

Did you do anything fun for Valentine’s Day today?

Have you ever had a mole removed?

Well, birthday weekend is officially over, and life is back to normal.

For breakfast today, I mixed up some strawberry Greek yogurt, oats, and almond milk, and let it chill in the fridge for a while. Then I ate it.

Today’s Workout

  • BodyPump
  • 20 minutes stationary bike

I didn’t workout all weekend, so it was nice to get back to the gym this morning. Lately, my calves have been killing me. They constantly feel tight, and I can only run for a few minutes at a time because they hurt so much.

I mentioned this to my sister-in-law over the weekend because she’s a massage therapist. She asked me if the bottom of my feet also hurt, and I said yes, when I’m running, they do. She thought that it could maybe be plantar fasciitis, which affects the connective tissue on the bottom of the foot.

She said that it would be a good idea to stretch, foam roll, and even use a golf ball to roll my foot back and forth on. So, I am going to take a break from the treadmill for a while and focus on stretching my calf muscles and feet because I can’t stand this pain anymore. My calves feel rock hard after I run.

Hopefully, they’ll get better!

After the gym, I had a cookies and cream thinkThin bar.

Lunch was pretty boring – an everything bagelwich and an orange. A crazy orange – the peel was so thick, it took me 10 minutes just to peel it, and even then I couldn’t get the sections apart. I think I’ll stick to clementines from now on.

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. I have such a busy day. I have an appointment at the dentist to get my wisdom tooth looked at. It never bothered me before, and then all of a sudden last week it started killing me and hasn’t stopped.

Then, if I have time, I plan on going to the Cardio Fit & Tone class at the gym. Then right after that, I have an appointment at the dermatologist for a skin/mole check. Later, my brother is dropping my niece off, and I’m bringing the kids to Jacob’s Valentine’s Day party at school.

Jaden had his Valentine’s Day party today, since he doesn’t go to school tomorrow.

Then tomorrow night, Danny and I have dinner reservations at a restaurant I’ve been dying to try. My wonderful mom is staying with the kids. Thanks, Mom.

Questions of the Day:

Do your calves ever hurt? Can you fix mine?

Any plans for Valentine’s Day?

Have you gotten any wisdom teeth removed? I’ve had two taken out.

I’m Productive!

I had the most productive morning today.

  • Out of bed by 5:30 am – Check
  • Showered and dressed by 6:00 am – Check
  • Dishes done and lunches made by 7:00 am – Check
  • Kids at school by 9:00 am – Check
  • Errands and grocery shopping done by 10:30 am – Check

I know that most people do this on a daily basis, but I’m usually just rolling out of bed by 7:00 am, so this was productive for me. I feel so…accomplished. And awesome.

Coffee played an important roll in my productivity this morning:

I was up earlier than usual this morning because my brother had a job interview early this morning, and I said that I’d watched Baby McCutie Darling for him. She arrived just in time for breakfast:

The only downside was that I missed BodyPump this morning. But I figured that it’s for a good cause. Maybe if my brother gets a new job, he’ll take me out to dinner. That’s usually how it works right? Get a new job. Take your sister out to dinner. Yeah, I’m pretty sure that’s how it works.

I plan on going to BodyPump tomorrow night instead and going to yoga tonight.

After I dropped the kids off at school, McCutie and I ran a couple of errands. First, we went to Hobby Lobby to pick up some supplies for some super secret crafts.

There’s a grocery store in the same parking lot as Hobby Lobby and this is what I was greeted with when I turned the corner:

A giant cow. Random. And weird.

Valentine’s Day Fun

Valentine’s day is coming up! Danny and I don’t usually do anything big – maybe just go out to dinner or exchange small presents. Sometimes I like to make him something for Valentine’s Day – something that doesn’t really cost anything and comes from the heart.

I had this idea a couple of years ago: 365 days of Love.

I cut out 365 hearts and wrote different things on each one – favorite memories, things I love about Danny, love quotes, etc. Then I put them all in a gift bag, and every day of the year he took out one heart and read it. That was there was enough hearts to last all the way to the next Valentine’s Day.

It cost didn’t cost anything because I had paper at home, but it was time-consuming cutting out all the hearts and writing on them. I just started a few weeks before Valentine’s Day and did a little each day.

Easy, peasy. And so sweet.

I’m trying to come up with something cute for this year.

Questions of the day:

What time do you usually wake up?

Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? What do you do? Any crafty ideas? I think that Valentine’s Day is celebrating the people you love, not just your significant other. I usually get the kids a little treat or a card for my parents.
