Jamba Juice Smoothie Review

As a Moms Meet blogger, I was recently given the opportunity to try out two new smoothies from Jamba Juice.

The new Tropical Harvest smoothie from the regular menu and the new Jamba Kids Berry Beet It! Smoothie from the kids menu.

The kids and I went to Jamba Juice and ordered our smoothies. If you ask, Jamba Juice will split one smoothie into two cups for the kids.

The new Tropical Harvest Smoothie is made with mangos, peaches, and passion fruit juice blended with juices from butternut squash, sweet potato and carrot. It is dairy-free and gluten-free with only 230 calories.

The Jamba Kids Berry Beet It! Smoothie is made with strawberries, mangos, bananas, and mixed berry juice with carrots, beets, broccoli, spinach, kale, and lettuce. It’s also dairy and gluten free with only 190 calories.

I know what you’re thinking when you read the descriptions of the smoothies because I thought the same thing: there’s no way that my kids are going to drink a smoothie with carrots, beets, broccoli, spinach, kale, and lettuce.

But you know what? You can’t taste any vegetables in either smoothie. They were both sweet, smooth, and delicious. And my kids loved them. Jaden gave the Kids Berry Beet It Smoothie two thumbs up.

Both kids finished their whole smoothie and then asked to drink some of mine.

The Tropical Harvest smoothie was also excellent. Very fruity tasting. I was a little nervous to taste the kid’s smoothie after my experience with the beet juice from my juice cleanse, but I was pleasantly surprised when I tasted it – it was delicious.

Both smoothies were something that I would order again. They are a great way to get your kids to eat their veggies, and a great way to get extra veggies in your own diet. The sweetness from the fruit overpowers the taste of the smoothie, so you don’t even know you’re drinking veggies.

I didn’t tell the kids what was in the smoothie beforehand and had them guess what flavors they tasted. They both said strawberries and raspberries (there were no raspberries in it though) and neither of them guessed there were any veggies in it.

Definitely some delicious new smoothies from Jamba Juice! To learn more about Jamba Juice’s new smoothies, check out their Facebook page.

Designer Whey Sustained Energy Giveaway

Todays’ Workout

  • 3 miles outside, sunny and cooler
  • 10 minutes stretching
  • BodyPump – 60 minutes

When I woke up this morning, my calves finally felt a lot better. I’m sure wearing my compression socks all day yesterday helped.

I woke up at 6 am to run before Danny went to work. I ran three miles.

My right side was sore the whole time – my butt, hip, and quad were not happy. But still, I ran the three miles without too much difficulty. I came home and stretched and foam rolled for about 10 minutes.

After the kids woke up and got ready, I headed back to the gym for BodyPump.

Designer Whey

As a FitFluential Ambassador, I was recently sent a new Designer Whey product to try out – Designer Whey Sustained Energy protein powder.

Flavors: Vanilla Bean and Chocolate Velvet

The Sustained Energy protein powder is formulated with natural whey, soy, and casein proteins to give you healthy and sustained energy during the day to meet the needs of your active demanding life. It doesn’t have caffeine and is stimulant-free.

It does have:

  • 100 calories per serving
  • 5g fiber
  • 16g protein
  • Great taste
  • Excellent source of 19 vitamins and minerals
  • Kosher certified
  • Gluten free

Of course, my first thought was to make a smoothie with the Sustained Energy protein powder. I went through my freezer to see what frozen fruit I had available, and I came across a bag of frozen cherries.

I decided to make a chocolate covered cherry smoothie. When ever smoothies are being made, Jaden needs to help.

The smoothie was super simple to make. All we used was:

  • frozen cherries
  • almond milk
  • Designer Whey Sustained Energy in Chocolate Velvet
  • crushed ice

The smoothie came out delicious. The chocolate velvet protein powder is very flavorful, so the chocolate really stood out in the smoothie. And who doesn’t love chocolate?!

Danny decided to try out the vanilla bean flavor after his workout. While I prefer adding my protein powder to smoothies, Danny likes drinking it mixed into water or milk.

Just add one scoop of protein powder to 5-8 ounces of water, juice, or milk. Danny said that he really liked the vanilla bean flavor and thought it had the perfect vanilla taste.

Designer Whey is offering the chance for some of you to try out their new Sustained Energy protein powder! And the best news?! There will be six winners!

To Enter:

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment below stating whether you would like to try the chocolate or vanilla Sustained Energy protein powder. That’s it!

Chocolate velvet or vanilla bean?

Giveaway open to US residents only. Giveaway ends Friday, June 21, 2013.

Running, The Ninja, and A Movie Night

Last Night’s Workout

  • 3.1 miles outside, warm & slightly windy

Today’s Workout

  • BodyPump – 60 minutes

Well, the meet-up for the Zooma half marathon ended up being postponed last night. I guess not enough people were able to make it out. I didn’t have to worry about driving and parking after all.

I decided to still run last night anyway. Jaden had t-ball in the evening, so Danny took the kids, and I waited for my sister-in-law to pick up my niece. After they left, I ran to t-ball. It’s exactly 3.1 miles from our house.

Once again, not a great run. I ran two miles and then had to take a walk break because my calves were killing me, which is my own fault for taking the cardio class that morning. I wanted to go farther but after 3.1 miles by legs were done. I am also starting to get a cold, so that didn’t help.

I wore my new Pro Compression socks. While I like them, I don’t love them. I think maybe it’s because I have been wearing the calf sleeves for years. They are a lot thinner than my normal socks so my foot slide around the whole time. Just one foot, which was weird. I think I’ll use them for recovery after my runs and continue to run in my sleeves.

Post run after t-ball:

I also wore my Spi belt that I got for Christmas for the first time.

I never run with my phone, and I didn’t want to leave it at home last night in case I call to Danny at t-ball for some reason. So, I used the SPIbelt. Normally, I don’t like running with things around my waist which is why I don’t run with a water belt, but the SPIbelt was awesome. I didn’t even know it was there and it didn’t bounce at all. For my three mile run, it was perfect.

I also ran with my hand-held water bottle which I filled up with citrus fruit Nuun.

The water bottle leaked the whole time. Not fun. So far, water has been my biggest challenge while running (not including my wonderful calves and quads).

My new Ninja blender is awesome…at slicing my thumb open. Those blades are sharp! I sliced my thumb open within 2 minutes of making my smoothie.

The Ninja has a tower of blades that goes into the pitcher. You have to put it in and take it out. I must have grabbed it wrong because I sliced my thumb right open. It wasn’t terrible, but it hurt and bled a lot. Thankfully, the blender worked awesome and my smoothie came out perfect.

I made a peach pineapple smoothie.

My smoothies includes strawberries 99% of the time. I just happened to be out of them this time.

Tonight, I’m going to one of those restaurant movie theaters where you can watch a movie and order dinner at the same time. I’m going with my step-mom, sister-in-law, and grandma. It should be a fun girl’s night. We’re seeing The Great Gatsby.

Have a great afternoon!

  • Do you run with your phone?
  • Do your smoothies always included a certain fruit or ingredient?
  • Have you ever been to a restaurant movie theater? This is my first time!
  • What’s the last movie you saw?

Running Fuel

Happy Friday!

I’m so glad it’s the weekend. My birthday is Monday so that means we’re celebrating this weekend!! I told Danny I was very particular about the kind of cake I wanted – chocolate cake with fresh strawberries and whipped cream :)

Yesterday was Jaden’s first t-ball game!

Unfortunately, Jaden doesn’t have a very long attention span so the game was interesting. I think I took him to the bathroom four times, yelled at him to leave his shirt on, and had to find something for him to sit on when he spilled Gatorade everywhere. Fun times.

But he liked playing and even got two hits without using the tee.

Today’s Workout

  • BodyPump – 60 minutes

BodyPump is usually the most crowded class at the gym in the mornings, but today there was only four of us. Maybe everyone’s starting their weekend early or exercising outside?

I picked up our race packets for the 5k tomorrow from a local running store. The mini Builder Bar was my favorite part.

The race is a smaller race and is about five minutes away from our house. Danny and I are running it, and my dad is coming to watch the kids. Thanks, Dad.

While I was at the running store, I picked up a few different kinds of fuel to try out for my long runs, especially when training for the half marathon. It seems be a general rule that if you’re running over an hour, you should have some kind of fuel – chews, gels, bars, sports drinks, etc.

Personally, I like the chews, but Danny doesn’t. He tried out one of the Gu’s on his run this morning and said that he didn’t like it. I think I’ll prefer the chews to the gels but I’m still going to try out the gels. I’ve had the PowerBar chews at a race before, so I know I like those.

I got my Pro Compression socks in the mail yesterday. I am looking forward to seeing how they compare to my calf sleeves.

I haven’t had a chance to try them out on a run yet, so I’ll let you know how that goes. The only thing that I don’t like so far is the sizing. Since they are socks the sizing chart goes by shoe size.

According to my shoe size, I should have ordered a size small/medium, but I know that with my calf size there was no way that a S/M would fit over my calves.

I have very large calves, and I’m not even exaggerating. Based on the circumference of my calves, I had to order my Zensah calf sleeves in the biggest size they made – L/XL.

I just have big calves. It happens. And one is noticeably bigger than the other, which is weird.

So, I ordered the Pro Compression socks in a L/XL. The fit over my calves perfect but the shoe size is a bit too big and they’re very long. I had to push them down my knees a bit. I’m sure they’ll work okay, and I am excited to try them out, I just wish that the sizing was different.

I’ll probably won’t run in them for the race tomorrow. I’ll try them out next week.

Lunch this afternoon was a peach smoothie.

In my smoothie:

  • 1 cup frozen peaches
  • 4 frozen strawberries (because it was all that I had left)
  • 1 container peach Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup Trop50 orange juice
  • crushed ice

Don’t forget, there’s still time to enter the Sambazon juice and smoothie giveaway! Ends tonight and I’ll announce the winner on Monday!

Have a great afternoon!

  • If you could pick any birthday cake or dessert what would it be?
  • How do you fuel for long runs? Gels, bars, chews, sports drinks, etc?
  • Any plans for this weekend?

Sambazon Juices and Smoothies + A Giveaway!

Last Night’s Workout

  • 4 miles outside, hot

*Note to self: Avoid evening runs at all costs.

Somehow, I went from having the best run of my life to having the worst run. I think it was a mix of running at night, already working out that morning, and the heat that made my run so horrible. I ran at about 6:15 pm last night and it was still 90 degrees outside.

I brought my hand-held water bottle with me, but halfway through my run the water was already hot. My body and legs just didn’t want to cooperate. I had to take a lot of walk breaks. The positive side is that I finished. I ran/walked my 4 miles and didn’t give up.

I could hardly walk into the house when I got home and immediately went to take a cold shower. Then, I made a strawberry peach smoothie for dinner…and chocolate cheerios with almond milk :)

Speaking of post workout food…

I was recently sent some Sambazon juice and smoothie products to try out through the Moms Meet program.

First they sent me this wooden bowl and spoon, which I love!

The bowl is really big and the bigger the bowl, the more cereal you can fit in it! They also sent me some coupons to pick up some Sambazon juices and smoothies to try out.

About Sambazon : I picked out the Acai with blueberry and pomegranate superfood juice blend and the protein acai berry + vanilla superfood smoothie (I love my protein!). The acai juices have powerful antioxidants and healthy omegas. The protein smoothies have 8g – 10g of organic vegan whole food protein per bottle and healthy omegas. The protein smoothie is perfect as a post workout snack. Protein helps build lean muscle.

Sambazon also has energy flavors, supergreens with kale and ginger, and a blended breakfast drink which has grains, chia, and organic/non-GMO verified soymilk.

I just saw on the Sambazon website that they have a energy mocha java superfood smoothie that I must get my hands on!

Not very surprisingly, I drank the acai berry and vanilla protein smoothie first. I thought it was great. It’s not chalky tasty like some protein drinks are, and tasted good. I love the mix of the acai berry and vanilla. The acai with blueberry and pomegranate was also really good. Of course, Jaden needs to help me sample everything :)

Studying the bottle:

Sambazon is offering one lucky winner a prize pack including three free product vouchers and a wooden bowl and spoon!

I Workout and Eat…Story of my Life

Last Night’s Workout

  • Cardio Fit and Tone Class – 60 minutes
  • Elliptical – 10 minutes

I went to the cardio fit and tone class at 6:20 pm last night, so I had a bowl of Kashi cereal about 4 pm, then I had a clementine and 5 pistachios at 6 pm, and I had a smoothie with a little bit of Special K when I got home about 8 pm.

I usually try not to eat dinner so late, but my eating always gets messed up when I go to the gym around 6pm.

In my smoothie:

  • 1 1/2 cup strawberries
  • 1/2 cup peaches
  • 1 container plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 scoop protein powder
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • crushed ice

Today’s Breakfast

This morning, I had peanut butter toast, blueberries, and hazelnut coffee.

Coffee cup courtesy of my mom.

Today’s Workout

  • 1.15 miles treadmill, walked
  • Butts and Guts Class – 60 minutes
  • Stretching – 15 minutes

My right quad (it’s always my right side!) has been really sore lately, so this morning I pulled out the neglected massage stick and used it on my leg.

I think part of the problem is that I haven’t been stretching lately. I don’t stretch as often as I should, and I know that’s a problem. Today after Butts and Guts class, I stretched for 15 minutes, and I was so glad that I did afterwards. I really need to start stretching more.

After my workout, I had a Greek yogurt and a mini package of pistachios.

Each package has about six pistachios and is only 20 calories. A package or two is good for when I am craving something salty/crunchy. I usually crave sweets more than I do salty foods though.

I picked up my niece and the stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few veggies. When I got home I made a veggie and feta omelet for lunch. I also had veggies and hummus, strawberries, and a caramel pineapple Greek yogurt.

Biggest Loser

Are you watching the Biggest Loser? I was glad to see that yesterday’s episode discussed nutrition a little bit more. I like watching the Biggest Loser, but sometimes I get bored with just watching them workout all the time. I would love to know how many calories they eat, what they eat, when they eat, etc.

I think that diet is just as important as exercise if you’re trying to be healthy or lose weight, and I wished they showed more of that on the show.

I was also surprised to see that the kids on the show are also wearing the BodyMedia armbands. I thought only the adults were wearing them since they said the kids wouldn’t be weighed. Maybe they’re just wearing them to see how many calories they’re burning a daily basis.

Have a great afternoon!

Questions of the day:

  • Biggest Loser thoughts?
  • Do you stretch? How often?
  • Sweet, salty, or crunchy?
  • Workouts: morning or evening? Or afternoon?
