Cardio Fusion Class

Good afternoon!

Last Night’s Workout

  • BodyPump – 60 minutes

I didn’t workout yesterday morning, so I decided to take the evening BodyPump class instead. It’s always so different taking a class at night. In the mornings, we know each other and have certain ways of doing things whereas at night, they have their own group and way of doing things.

It’s nice to go workout in the evening once in awhile but I prefer the mornings.

Breakfast this morning was the gluten free Puffins cereal.

It was good, but the peanut butter puffins are way better.

Today’s Workout

  • Cardio Fusion Class – 60 minutes

Since I went to BodyPump last night, I decided to try out a new class at the gym this morning – Cardio Fusion. The first 30 minutes of the class were pretty much Zumba, then we did about 20 minutes of abs, and about 5 minutes of kickboxing moves.

It was a really fun class that I would take again.

Post workout, I had a Pure Protein shake.

By the time lunch rolled around today, I was hungry. I made an egg and cheese sandwich on Udi’s bread.

I also had a coconut pineapple sparkling water. Normally, I am not a fan of coconut, but this sparkling water flavor is the best one I’ve tried!

Sweet Temptations Dessert Company

My grandma, Marlene, who is a professional dessert chef is trying to get a small business grant – she needs 250 votes to get a grant and is halfway there. If you have a free moment, could you please vote for her dessert company, Sweet Temptations Dessert Co, here. Just click on the link and type in Sweet Temptations Dessert.

She is so talented and makes fabulous cakes and desserts such as these:

Thank you :)

My brother, sister-in-law, and niece come home from Florida tonight! I invited everyone over to dinner at our house tomorrow night, so we can visit and hear all about their trip and half marathon. Okay, okay. I really invited them over so I could squeeze and hug my niece and ask her how much she missed me!

Have a wonderful  afternoon!

Randomness Tuesday

Good afternoon!

Today’s post is going to be about a bunch of random things :)

First up, my workout.

Today’s Workout

  • 3. 5 miles – outside

I think today was the first time I have ever ran outside in November in my life and the first time I have ran outside in a month. It was tough. The weather was about 50 degrees which was perfect. I started out a bit chilly but warmed up quickly.

The wind was the toughest part and my nose was runny the whole time. I ran 3.1 miles (with a couple of walk breaks) and then walked .4 miles. I haven’t been running lately and my hip still hurts so my time wasn’t the best.

I’m just trying to run outside a little more to be ready for the 5k on Thanksgiving!

Kind Bars

A few weeks ago, Jaden and I went to Whole Foods and they had a few kid’s Halloween activities set up around the store. One activity was a photo booth with props.

If you took a picture and tagged it on Instagram, you were eligible to win a case of Kind bars. Well, I just found out today that Jaden’s picture was one of the lucky winners! Yay!

I go through phases with reading. Sometimes I’ll read a whole bunch of book in a row and then I’ll go a long time without reading anything.

I just finished reading Allegiant (from the Divergent series).

I thought the book was okay - I wasn’t really happy with the ending and thought there was so much time between books so I had a hard time remembering what had happened in the first two books. It’s a must read if you read the first two in the series, but overall slightly disappointing.

I am currently reading Ender’s Game (I seem to like young adult books if you can’t tell).

Ender’s Game is actually an old book from 1991. It was recently made into a movie that just came out. Jacob read it on his Kindle, so I decided to read it too. So far, it’s really good. It’s about a young boy who is sent away to Battle School to train for a war against an alien race.

It reminds me of another book I recently read where kids are sent away to train as soldiers and I just can’t remember the name of it!

Lunch this afternoon was an Amy’s gluten-free burrito. I also had some apple slices.

Ugly Sweater Coffee

While I was at Target, I came across this Ugly Sweater Crème Brulee coffee.

How fun is that? Last year, we had an ugly Christmas sweater party, and this coffee would have been perfect.

Last year:

Have a wonderful afternoon!

I Finally Got New Shoes

Good afternoon!

I finally broke down and bought a pair of shoes online. I really like to buy shoes in the store because I need to try them on but after having no luck finding a pair that I liked in size 11, I finally ordered a pair from Sports Authority.

They are the Asics GT-1000 2′s. These shoes will be for exercise classes and BodyPump shoes, not running shoes. I don’t mind spending a lot of running shoes since I have so many running issues, but I don’t also want to spend $100+ on exercise shoes.

These Asics were on sale at Sports Authority for $59.99 with free two-day shipping if you paid with PayPal. That’s a pretty good deal.

I was actually eyeing these shoes at the store but I couldn’t find a store that carried my size. At least I finally found a pair and I can get rid of my old pair that are falling apart!

Today’s Workout

  • Practiced BodyPump – 1 hr 17 min (including stretching)

I am supposed to film my BodyPump video on Sunday and we have a busy weekend so I’ve been really trying to get in as much practice as I can. I practiced for a long time this morning, and burned over 500 calories.

Post workout, I had a Clif Pumpkin Spice bar. I figured I earned it after my workout!!

Lunch this afternoon was one of those “use up the things in your fridge before they go bad” meal. I scrambled up four egg whites and cut up some veggies. I cooked the veggies first in the pan before adding the egg whites.

sp 022

I scrambled everything up and then put the eggs on a FlatOut wrap, added a little salsa, and some cheese and lunch was served. Yum!

sp 024

I also have to admit that my niece was eating Cinnamon Toast Crunch at the time, and I couldn’t help myself from having a little bowl. So good. Cereal is definitely one of my downfalls.

In totally random news, I just got this Roxy sweatshirt from TJMaxx.

sp 017

I love the button neckline on it. Cold weather has arrived!

I am so glad that tomorrow is Friday! It’s going to be such a fun weekend!

Have a great afternoon!

  • How much will you pay for a pair of shoes?

Total Body Workout

Good afternoon!

I wasn’t able to pop in yesterday because it was such a busy day. The kids were off of school again and I had four kids at home for most of the day. Plus, it was raining all day so they couldn’t go outside. Four kids = chaos.

Jacob had a doctor appointment and I had a flu shot :( My niece made sure several times that I was the one getting a shot and not her. Auntie shot? Auntie turn? Yes, Auntie is getting her flu shot…and she doesn’t like it. I try to be brave for the kids but really I am a baby about shots.

Are you guys so sick of hearing me talk about BodyPump?!

I practiced for close to two hours yesterday. I put off learning the lunge track so I spent of good portion of time practicing it. I have all of the moves memorized for the warm-up, squats, chest, back, lunges, shoulders, and cool down. Now, I just have to work on my timing and not forgetting all those moves that I learned when I’m in front of a group.

BodyPump is harder to learn than you might think. You have to memorize all the moves, the tempo of the moves – 3/1, 2/2, 1/1/2, 1/1, etc., have perfect timing with the music all while cueing and coaching the class. Phew.

But I love BodyPump so it’s worth it!

Today’s Workout

  • Practiced BodyPump (of course)
  • Total body exercises

I haven’t been to the gym in a few days because the kids have been off school so I went this morning and did one set of a total body workout.

(I just got that workout tank from JCPenney and I love it. They have very affordable workout clothes.)

Some of the moves I did included:

  • Stretching
  • Floor bridges
  • Ab work – leg raises, planks, crunches
  • Front shoulder raises
  • Push-Ups
  • Bent-over row
  • Box jump up and jump downs
  • Overhead extensions
  • Hammer curls

My gym set up a new spot in the corner with dumbbells, stability balls, BOSU balls, etc. so that’s where I did my workout today. It was nice having a little bit more space.

I need to start adding some more cardio. I have had a chest cold lately and with BodyPump practice, I haven’t gotten in enough cardio.

After the gym, I ran a few errands (still looking for shoes!) and by the time I got home, I was starving so I needed something that would be ready fast. I picked up one of these Amy’s burritos at the store to try out.

I ate it with some apple slices and it was really good. Mexican food is my favorite. I could eat it every single day and never get sick of it.

Halloween Fun

Two years ago my dad started the tradition of doing an annual Halloween game for our family. The year he did it, the game last a month and was called Halloween in Wonderland.

The next year my sister-in-law, Crystal, was in charge of the Halloween game and her game was called Halloween Amazing Race – based on the tv show The Amazing Race.

(Yeah, I’m not even looking at the camera, but it’s the only group shot I have!)

This year I am in charge of the Halloween game and it’s called Heather’s Halloween Scavenger Hunt. It’s going to take place on Friday night and I can’t give any details away yet but I was at the store today purchasing some stuff for the game.

Halloween is a big deal in our family (I blame my dad). My aunt and uncle are even flying in from California to participate in some of our Halloween fun. It should be a fun night!

Have a great afternoon!

  • What’s your favorite way to get exercise? Running, walking, strength training, Zumba, etc?
  • What is your favorite food?
  • What is your favorite holiday? Even though my family is really into Halloween, my favorite holiday will always be Christmas.

How to Use a K-Cup in a Vue Coffeemaker

Good morning! Happy Saturday!

Yesterday morning, I worked for a while and then I ran a bunch of errands. Friday is the only day that I don’t watch my niece so I try to get all my errands done before my kids starting getting home at 3 pm.

My first errand was looking for new exercise shoes – shoes for classes and teaching. I can’t even tell you how many stores I went to without any luck – two Sports Authoritys, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Kohl’s, Famous Footwear, and Shoe Carnival.

The problem is that I have big feet – I wear a size 11 in Asics. I love wearing Asics for fitness classes so that’s what I want to stick with. Stores either didn’t have a size 11 or if they did the color choice wasn’t what I wanted.

I’m trying not to be too picky but the one size 11 that Shoe Carnival had was bright purple, with neon green on the side, and hot pink laces. I like bright colors, but that was a little too much.

I bought the pair of Asics that I wear now at Famous Footwear and I actually found the same exact pair yesterday on clearance…in a size 10. I was so bummed. I can fit into the size 10 but I know they’ll really hurt my toes down the road.

My current shoes:

I love them.

I think my next step is just to order a pair online. I hate ordering shoes online because I really feel like I need to try them on. The shoe search continues…

I also stopped at Target yesterday and wandered down the coffee aisle. I was so excited to see my favorite Gloria Jean k-cups – Macadamia Nut, Butter Toffee, Brown Sugar Cookie, Hazelnut. I love Gloria Jean’s coffee.

Then I remembered that I have a Keurig Vue.

Talk about a sad moment. The Keurig Vue doesn’t take k-cups like the regular Keurig coffee maker. Not only that, but I checked two Targets and both stopped carrying Vue cups. Why?!

So, when I got home, I googled “Gloria Jean vue cups.” I wasn’t able to find any but I did come across something interesting – a way to use the k-cups in the Vue coffeemaker :)

I know there is a little filter you can buy to add your own coffee to brew, but I wasn’t able to find the filter and it requires opening the k-cups and pouring them in the filter.

This is what I did instead:

I used and rinsed out a travel-sized Vue cup. I was lucky that I had one travel sized cup left from the samples that came with the coffeemaker.

Then, I took a regular K-cup and poked a little hole in the cup near the bottom. (I used a toothpick.)

I put the k-cup in the travel-sized Vue cup with the hole lined up with the spout.

I put the whole thing in my Vue coffee maker and viola!! Macadamia Nut coffee!!

I read mixed reviews online about it working for some people and not working at all for other people. It worked perfect for me. The only small problem that I had was that it left a few coffee grounds in my cup of coffee. I just fished them out with a spoon. Problem solved.

Lunch yesterday was a roasted veggie flatbread pizza.

I go through stages where I’ll make flatbread pizza for a long time and then not eat it for a long time. They are such an easy, healthy, and delicious meal.

If I have time, I usually roast the veggies in the oven before adding them to the pizza. Then, I add cheese and cook it – it only takes about 5 minutes in the oven.

Halloween Fun

Tonight, we have an interesting Halloween activity planned with my family. We wanted to add a different Halloween activity this year, so my dad came up with an idea – Make Your Own Scary Movie Night.

We spent the last few days making our own scary movie – and it’s going to be soooo cheesy! I am looking forward to it. I have never filmed a movie before or used any kind of editing software so it’ll be interesting.

We’re using the iMovie app on the iPad to film the movie so we’ll see how it turns out!!

Have a great weekend!! Good luck to everyone running the Chicago Marathon tomorrow!

Current 5k Playlist

Good afternoon!

Can you believe that today is the last day of September?! I can’t believe how fast the year is flying by! I think that October 1st might be one of my favorite days of the year. To me, it’s the day that kicks off the holiday season.

It’s October, which means that it’s the month of Halloween fun (my family does a lot of Halloween related activities), then Thanksgiving isn’t too far away, and finally it’s the Christmas season! I absolutely love this time of year.

Yesterday morning, we stopped for a quick last-minute breakfast at Panera. I had my heart set on a pumpkin bagel, but then I saw their new steel cut oatmeal with apple chips and toasted pecans and my dreams of a pumpkin bagel went out the window.

A little blurry but at least it tasted delicious :)

The oatmeal was definitely a good choice. But I will have that pumpkin bagel one day.

Today’s Workout

  • Stretching – 10 minutes
  • BodyPump – 60 minutes

I plan on running Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday (5k) of this week but my quad is killing me today. I am going to see how it is in the morning and then will decide if I should run or not. I don’t want to push it before the 5k but I also want to stay on my running schedule.  I guess my other option would be to run Wednesday and Thursday. We’ll see how my quad and hip feel.

After BodyPump, I had a caramel fudge thinkThin bar.

I like caramel but I don’t love it. The bar was good, but I still prefer the peanut butter flavor.

Lunch this afternoon was a bagel thin with egg whites and provolone cheese, carrots and hummus, and pineapple.

5k Playlist

I have been working on playlist for the 5k on Sunday. I am the kind of person that can run with or without music. It doesn’t really bother me to run without music but I do notice that I tend to run a bit faster when I am listening to music.

I hate wearing an armband though so I just use Danny’s old iPod shuffle and clip it to my waistband. Even then, I sometimes end up ripping it off and carrying it in my hand by the end of the race.

Here’s my playlist so far:

  • Lady Gaga – Applause
  • Scooter – Black Betty
  • Jay Z featuring Justin Timberlake – Holy Grail
  • Sam & The Womp – Bom Bom
  • Nero – Crush on You
  • Scooter – J’adore Hardcore
  • Lorde – Royals

The Royals song by Lorde is currently by favorite song. I love it. Sometimes I listen to it on repeat over and over…which means I’ll probably be sick of it soon, but as of now I love it.

A few of the songs are from the new BodyPump release, but they make good running songs. :)

Have a great afternoon!

  • Caramel, chocolate, or peanut butter?
  • Favorite holiday?
  • What is currently your favorite song?

Taco Lunch

Happy Friday! I’m so glad that today is Friday :)

Today’s Workout

  • BodyPump – 60 minutes

I went to BodyPump this morning but I didn’t teach any tracks. The instructor switched to an older BodyPump release since we’ve done the new release for a while.

We usually do the new release for about a month and then switch it up with older releases. It’s good to change things up! I can only teach the new release so the instructor offered to switch the music if I wanted to teach certain tracks but I knew that people we getting tired of doing the same release so I said I’d pass on teaching today and practice at home.

BodyPump comes out with new releases (which includes new songs and moves) four times a year. When you do the same exercises over and over, your body gets used to it and becomes accustomed to it so you burn less calories and see less results. That’s why switching up your workout routine can be beneficial.

I wore my Under Armor shirt and headband today.

I don’t usually wear handbands a lot because they tend to fall off of my head, but this one’s really cute.

After the gym, I went to my stepmom’s house and we walked with my niece to the park.

She had a fun time playing and fell asleep the second we got into the car to come home. I wish I still had nap time :)

For lunch, I made the rest of my tilapia taco mix.

I had pineapple from Whole Foods on the side. For some reason, Whole Foods has the best pineapple that I have ever tasted – it’s so good.

Tonight, we have plans together with my family and tomorrow we’re going to a family picnic with my mom’s side of the family. Sunday football is on and heaven forbid, Danny miss the Bears game. I’m hoping that we can go see the Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs movie after the game. The movie looks so cute and I swear I love watching kids movies as much as the kids do!

Have a great weekend!

Whole Foods Trip

Good afternoon!

Today’s Workout

  • 2.26 miles, treadmill
  • Biceps and Triceps BodyPump Tracks – approx. 15 min.
  • Stretching – Approx. 15 min.

I walked for ten minutes on the treadmill, ran for 17 minutes, and then finished up with 3 minutes of walking. I planned on run/walking for 30 minutes and didn’t worry about the distance.

I also planned on running for a longer amount of time but I go into a conversation with the lady on the treadmill next to me and I can’t run on a treadmill and carry on a conservation very well. I am lucky that I remain upright while running on the treadmill. I am not the most coordinated or graceful person in the world.

While running on the treadmill, I cut my toe open…again. For some reason, my toes have problems when I’m running. They rub on each other and the toenail cuts open the toe next to it. It’s weird and gross. And it’s not even like it’s the same spot – it happens with different toes. And it’s not the shoes because it’s happened in a couple of different pairs of shoes. Whatever.

I practiced the biceps and triceps tracks from BodyPump one time each. I am really trying to work on those triceps push-ups – they’re tough.

My niece loves looking at the pool for a few minutes before we leave the gym.

After the gym, we went to Whole Foods. I recently saw that Larabar came out with a new snickerdoodle flavor and I am dying to try it. Unfortunately, Whole Foods didn’t have the snickerdoodle flavor, but they did have a spiced pumpkin pie Clif bar that I was very excited about. I picked up a few to try.

PicMonkey Collage

I ate one on the way home and it was delicious. But after I had finished almost all of it, I noticed that it had raisins in it! Who does that? Why put yucky raisins in a perfectly good pumpkin Clif bar?! I’m not a fan of raisins.

Luckily, I didn’t even taste the raisins while I was eating it, so I feel safe eating the other two spiced pumpkin pie bars that I bought.

I also picked up a few different thinkThin bars to try out.

I also got some tilapia taco mix for dinner. I eat it on organic corn tortillas and top it with mango salsa.

It’s so good, quick, and easy. I got enough for dinner tonight and lunch tomorrow.

Speaking of lunch, I made a salad at the salad bar for lunch today.

I had to throw some strawberries on there because they looked so delicious and perfect.

I am still using the My Fitness Pal app to record my food, but days like today are hard because I can’t really figure out the exact calories of every ingredient in the salad as well as the mango salsa and taco mix.

I figure if I eat the salad for lunch, have a snack in the afternoon, and the fish tacos for dinner then I should be good for the day.

Have a great afternoon!

Burning Calories

Good afternoon!

Yesterday’s Workout

  • BodyPump – 60 minutes

Yesterday’s BodyPump class was a big step for me because I actually let Danny come to the class that I was teaching. For some reason, I get nervous teaching in front of him, but I have been slowly becoming more comfortable teaching in front of a group (which is good because the class was large yesterday), and wasn’t quite as nervous teaching.

I still only taught the squat, chest, and back tracks. According to my heart rate monitor I burned 533 calories during yesterday’s class. I burn a lot more calories taking the class and teaching than I do just taking the class.

I spent the rest of the day making this chili recipe for my family last night.

They came over to watch the Bears game and I thought chili would be perfect for the first day of fall dinner.

I didn’t workout this morning because I had a meeting at the gym, but I was thinking about taking a cardio barre class at the gym tonight. I have never taken a barre class and really want to try it out. A barre class is basically pilates, ballet, and yoga movements done at a ballet barre. I’ve heard it’s a great workout and tough on the calves!

Lunch this afternoon was English muffin hummus melts with carrots and more hummus on the side.

I will spending the rest of the afternoon watching this DVD and filling in the workbook.

For my group exercise certification, I need continuing education credits and I am coming up on the deadline to get them.

Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Pancake Breakfast

It might not technically be fall yet, but I am still pretending like it is, so I made pumpkin pancakes for breakfast. I think I shared this recipe last year, but I figured I’d share it again. :)

Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Pancakes    Serves: 1

Makes two small pancakes or one big pancake.

  • 1/3 cup pancake mix (I used Whole Foods Whole Wheat Pancake Mix)
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin
  • 1/2 tbsp. chocolate chips (approx. 16 chocolate chips)
  • 1/3 cup water (depending on desired thickness – add more water for thinner pancakes)
  • Optional: syrup

I used to use sugar-free syrup for these pancakes, but I am trying to stay away from fake sugar so today I used pure maple syrup. I only used 1 tsp. which is about 17 calories. I am not a huge syrup fan so a tiny bit satisfies me.

  1. Add pancake mix, pumpkin, chocolate chips, and water to a small bowl. Whisk just until combined.
  2. Cook on a hot griddle (or pan) 2-3 minutes per side.
  3. Top with syrup or your choice of topping and enjoy!

The pancake mix usually calls for oil and an optional egg but I use the pumpkin in place of those ingredients.

I think I might trying adding peanut butter to these pancakes or topping them with almond butter instead of syrup. Yum!

Today’s Workout

  • Walking - 10 minutes
  • BodyPump – 60 minutes

I started out at the gym this morning with a quick ten minute walk on the treadmill. Then, I took a BodyPump class and it was hard today! I am trying to get back to my normal weights and it was a great workout today!

I have been wearing my heart rate monitor for the past few days and I burned 445 calories in BodyPump today.

Post workout, I had a chocolate milk and of course, I am already over my sugar limit for the day - 22 grams of sugar in organic chocolate milk, plus the one tiny teaspoon of maple syrup this morning already has my sugar grams adding up!

Yesterday’s Lunch

I have to share yesterday’s lunch because it was so good – an egg and potato bowl.

I used to make this for lunch quite often but I haven’t lately so it was a nice change. I cooked one potato on the stove with garlic, red pepper, onion, and a little bit of salt and pepper. Then I scrambled three egg whites and topped them with some cheddar cheese.

I put all of it in a bowl for the perfect lunch!

Have a great afternoon!
