Fun Valentine’s Day Ideas

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! I know some people aren’t into Valentine’s Day, but I like to look at Valentine’s Day as a day to celebrate those you love whether it be a spouse, significant other, mom, dad, grandparent, or kids, etc.

Today I wanted to share a few different Valentine’s Day ideas with you.

For the past couple of years, I’ve left a trail of Hersey kisses for the kids leading from their rooms to the kitchen table where there is a special Valentine’s Day treat waiting.

They love collecting the Kisses all the way down the stairs!

Some years I make a fancy dinner for Danny and the kids. The kids love getting menus like they’re at a restaurant!

I’ve also made a fun Valentine’s Day cake for a family dessert on Valentine’s Day.

A heart shaped cookie is also a cute idea and easy to make.

As a present for Danny one year, I made a Man Bouquet which included mini alcohol bottles, gum cigars, a coupon for free Coke, and candy.

One year for Danny, I cut out 365 hearts. One each heart, I wrote something I loved about Danny, a favorite memory, a love quote, or song lyrics. I put them all in a bag and each day of the year Danny could pick one out and read it! If you plan on doing this, I would recommend getting an early start on it. It took a long time to cut out 365 hearts and write on all of them!

Another great gift for your mom or sister would be a pampering in a jar gift. I made these for Christmas a few years ago but they’d also be great for Valentine’s Day!

 

The jar included things like fuzzy socks, lotion, lip balm, and chocolate. There are so many things you could put in one of these jars.

Anniversary

Happy anniversary to my wonderful husband, Danny! I love you! Breakfast

Breakfast this morning was strawberry peanut butter overnight oats…even though there’s snow on the ground, I still went with a cold breakfast. My oats included:

  • strawberry Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 1/4 cup almond milk
  • 1 tbsp. chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp. PB2

I mixed all the ingredients up last night and let it sit in the fridge overnight and then I topped it with blueberries this morning.

Today’s Workout

  • Women on Weights Class – 45 minutes
  • HIIT Stairmaster workout – 20 minutes

In Women on Weights class today we focused on abs, triceps, and biceps. After the class, I did a 20 minute high intensity interval training workout on the Stairmaster. I haven’t been on the Stairmaster in quite awhile and I was sweaty by the time I was done. I did climb as high as the Eiffel Tower :)

Post workout, I had a CorePower chocolate drink that Danny got me as a morning anniversary present. He knows me too well. Lunch

Lunch was delicious today. I made English muffin hummus melts. They are amazing. The spinach, cheese, and hummus is such a great combination.

Take Time

Yesterday

Last night, I made sure to hold my kids close and tell them that I love them. We spent the afternoon lounging on the couch, watching The Polar Express and drinking hot chocolate. Then, we went out for frozen yogurt with my family and walked around the stores a bit. Then, we came home and had a family reading night in our bed. I realized how truly blessed I was to be able to tuck them into bed last night.

I think that we all realize how important our loved ones and how we should take time to appreciate them. Take time today to give your kids, your family, your spouses, or your loved ones a hug and a kiss. Tell them that you love them.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families in Newtown, CT. There are no words for this terrible tragedy. I can’t even imagine what these families are going through, and my heart aches for them.

Today’s Workout

  • 3.05 miles – treadmill

This morning is cold and rainy, and I suppose that’s fitting with the mood of the day. I went to the gym about 8 am, and wanted to be in and out, so I did another HIIT treadmill workout. I alternated between walking at 4.0 mph and running at 7.0 mph. I did each interval for a minute each for a total of about 30 minutes, and finished with a cool down.

After the gym, I stopped at McDonald’s for coffee and got cinnamon melts for my kids, which I let Jaden eat on the couch.

This evening, we’re taking the kids to the Chicago Bulls game. They have never been before and we’ll see how they like it. Have a nice weekend.
