Skinny Limits Juice Cleanse Review

Good morning! I did it! I finished the three day Skinny Limits juice cleanse.

It was hard, but I feel really good. And surprisingly, after not eating for three days, I don’t crave a big meal or lots of food. I just really want fresh fruit.

After a juice cleanse, it’s recommended that you eat clean and whole foods the next day. Such as fruits, vegetables, almonds, salad, salmon, etc. Skinny Limits recommends that you eat fruit for breakfast followed by some raw nuts.

Since I was craving fruit, that’s exactly what I had.

I also had a 100 calorie pack of almonds. It was amazingly delicious.

And coffee. Oh, how I’ve missed coffee.

I went to the grocery store last night to stock up on some fresh produce.

I don’t usually buy so much pre-cut produce, but I was tired last night and the grocery store was the last place that I wanted to be.

I am excited to eat cherries for the first time this season!

Weight Loss

I didn’t weight myself at home before I started the juice cleanse, but I did get weighed at the doctor’s office about a week before so I know my approximate weight. I weighed myself this morning and I probably lost about 6 or 7 pounds.

Here are some pros and cons based on my experience with the three day Skinny Limits juice cleanse.

  • Great way to rid the body of toxins and “reset” your body
  • I felt “lighter” and not bloated
  • Weight loss
  • I didn’t feel extremely hungry after the first day
  • Decreased sugar cravings
  • Ability to pick number of days for the juice cleanse (1-10 days) and different cleanses to choose from (standard, green, master, variety, etc.)

I also want to add that I really like the Skinny Limits company. Besides the juices tasting good (with the exception of the beet juice), they were great to work with. All my emails were answered quickly, and I even asked a question via Facebook and got a quick response.

They were great about working with me on ship date. I had to change a couple of times dues to the 5k I was running. The juices  were shipped quickly, arrived on time, and were packaged in ice packs. They also have tons of information on their website if you have questions about doing a juice cleanse.

Skinny Limits is based out of Austin, TX, but they ship worldwide.

  • The side effects – everyone will experience different side effects. Mine were unpleasant but not unbearable.
  • Constant headache (My aunt pointed out that the headache and fatigue might be because I stopped drinking caffeine (coffee) cold turkey
  • Feeling tired and slightly out of it (if I had to give a business presentation, take a test, or fly an airplane, I would have failed).
  • No running
  • The cost

Doing a juice cleanse isn’t cheap. I recommend finding one that’s local so you don’t have to pay for shipping. A one day Skinny Limits juice cleanse is $49 (without shipping). A three day juice cleanse is $147 (without shipping). So, it’s expensive, but if it’s worth it to you then go for it.

Overall, I thought the three day Skinny Limits juice cleanse was positive. It made me feel better, lighter, and helped with my sugar cravings. It was very tough to do. I managed to stick to the three days drinking only the juice, water, and green tea. I didn’t even eat one little piece of celery, but it was very hard.

Besides the benefits of the juice cleanse, it also showed me that I have the willpower and determination to stick to doing something difficult.

Well, I’m off to the gym. Have a great day!

  • Would you ever consider doing a juice cleanse?
  • Do you ever buy pre-cut produce?
  • Any other cherry lovers?

Day Three and Something Totally Random

Halfway done with Day Three of juicing. Thank goodness.

This juice cleanse was a lot harder than I thought it would be. It’s tough, but I’m sticking it out.

It’s not even that I’m hungry. It’s more that I have a constant headache, feel a little off, and am exhausted. I read that during a juice cleanse some people feel so energized that they want to clean the house top to bottom. Ha! I feel like I want to lay in bed all day and not get out.

On the Skinny Limits website there is a list of approved food that you can eat if you decide to add food to your juice cleanse – mainly organic fruits and veggies. I had decided that I would eat these fruits and veggies on day three because this juice cleanse is difficult.

Then I talked to my dad.

He basically said suck it up, buttercup.

Damn. So, I decided to suck it up and go the full three days only drinking the juice (as well as water and green tea). Right now I don’t like my dad.

But I suppose he’s right. It’s all about willpower. I usually have very little willpower, but this time I’m sticking it out.

I woke up this morning (day 3) feeling good.  We’ll see what the day brings.

Wherever I go, the juice goes.

Summer With Kids

My kids are officially out of school for the summer and this is when the craziness begins. After about two days of being out of school, I start hearing things like, I’m bored, there’s nothing to do and Jaden won’t get out of my room followed by a few loud bangs and then screaming.

Summer is exhausting.

Last year, I wrote a post about things to do with kids over summer break. I’ll definitely be using those ideas this year as well.

My kids have a lot of energy and are very active. They also fight a lot. They are six years apart in age, so sometimes Jacob tends to get very frustrated with Jaden. And lately Jaden has been throwing full-out screaming tantrums. Have I mentioned I love summer?

This year, I decided to do something different to try to get their behavior under control. They’re not exactly misbehaved, but they know they can get away with more at home than they can at school. And their energy has them bouncing off the walls sometimes.

I went online and printed out sheets of angry birds pretend money.

I printed the money out here.

I cut them up and gave each of my kids $5. During the summer they can earn and lose the dollars. They can earn the dollars by being good, not fighting, listening nicely when I tell them to do something, behaving in the kids room at the gym, etc.

They lose dollars by fighting, not listening, throwing tantrums, etc. They can also turn in dollars for things such as playing their iPods, playing the computer, watching TV, etc.

At the end of the summer, I told them that they could trade all their pretend dollars in for real dollars. (I don’t expect it to be too much since they like to play their iPods a lot).

And yes, I am essentially paying my kids to be good. But you know what? It’s worth it to keep my sanity by the time summer is over. Even by Friday nights when Danny gets home from work, I am at my wit’s end sometimes. But of course, I do it because that’s what I chose to do, and I don’t regret my decision to stay home with my kids. I’m just trying to make it a bit easier for everyone :)

Random News

In totally random news, my mom made it into the Guinness Book of World Records. I could give you 100 guesses why she’s in the book and you’d probably never guess why.

She’s in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most people dressed as Superman in one place. 566 Supermans.

I told you it was totally random. It’s actually a tie-in with the new Superman movie that’s coming out June 14th.  You can read the article about it here.

Great job being Superman, Mom.

  • Any plans this summer?
  • Ever been in the Guinness Book of World Records?
  • What would you want to be in it for? I would pick eating the most donuts because I love donuts. Forever.

Skinny Limits Juice Cleanse Day Two and National Running Day

Happy National Running Day!

Unfortunately, I didn’t run today, but I thought it would be fun to talk about our favorite running moments or first races.

My favorite running moment was definitely the Run Like a Mother 5k. It was my fastest race -29:22 and so far my only sub-30 5k.

I was so happy that I finally ran 3.1 miles in under 30 minutes. I was so emotional that I was able to accomplish something that I never thought I could.

Skinny Limits

Day one of the Skinny Limits juice cleanse was hard. I was doing fine up until about 3 pm. Then my stomach starting to growl and I got a headache that I had for the rest of the afternoon. It was unpleasant but not unmanageable.

According to my instruction sheet, if you are feeling bad then it means the detox is working. Symptoms of a juice cleanse include headaches, mild breaking out, and cramping. These are signs that the juice cleanse is helping rid your body of toxins.

I drank my third juice around 3 pm hoping that it would help. It was the Lotus (beet juice) and it was terrible. It was the only juice out of the six juices that I had a hard time drinking.

I still had a headache most of the day, but I started to feel a lot better at night, and I slept really good.

This morning, I started out my day with the recommended cup of hot water and lemon followed by a green juice. I felt really good when I woke up, so I hope today will be a bit easier than yesterday.

The hardest part is cooking for my family. I made breakfast and lunch for the kids, and dinner for Danny and the kids. It’s really hard to be around all that food and not even take a tiny bite.

Today’s Workout

  • BodyPump – 60 minutes
  • Approx. 1 mile walk

Skinny Limits says that it’s okay to exercise while doing a juice cleanse as long as your body feels okay. They probably mean exercise like walking or yoga, not BodyPump, but I did BodyPump anyway. I’m a rebel.

It went okay. I didn’t feel terrible, but I didn’t feel 100% either. I have read about people doing juice cleanses who feel great and have a ton of energy. I just feel really tired.

After the gym, the kids and I walked about 1/2 mile to the park, played a while, and then walked 1/2 mile back to the car.

Now I’m kind of wishing I could take a nap :)

Up next for my juice cleanse is the Scorpion Lemonade.

I think this one of my favorite. It’s a nice break after the beet juice. It tastes like slightly spicy lemonade.

Enjoy your afternoon!

  • What is your favorite running moment?
  • Did you run today?
  • If you could only drink one thing for the rest of your life besides water, what would it be?

Skinny Limits Juice Cleanse – Day One

Today’s Workout

  • Elliptical – 30 minutes

Today is the first day of my Skinny Limits juice cleanse.

According to the shipping info, the juice was scheduled to be delivered at about 10:45 am. I was worried that I would miss the delivery, so instead of taking my normal hour-long Butts and Guts class, I just hopped on the elliptical for 30 minutes before heading home to wait for the juice delivery.

Hey, any workout is better than no workout, right?

A few benefits of doing a juice cleanse:

  • rid your body of toxins
  • balance your alkaline level
  • regulate digestion and metabolism

Of course, weight loss is also a benefit, but juice cleanses are usually done to rid the body of toxins, not to focus on weight loss. I am personally doing a juice cleanse to get my body back on track and hopefully help with my love for sugar.

My Skinny Limits juice cleanse arrived at about 10:15 am, and I drank my first juice at about 10:30 am.

Normally, you’re supposed to drink hot water with lemon as soon as you wake up and then drink your first juice. Obviously, I couldn’t do that part today, but I will do it tomorrow.

I received three days of the juice cleanse. Each day is exactly the same and must be consumed in a certain order – the bottles are labeled. Here are the juices that I received:

  • 1 Pure & Simple – apple, cucumber, celery, kale, spinach, lemon, and parsley
  • 1 Balance – apple, cucumber, celery, kale, spinach, lemon, ginger
  • 1 Lotus – beet, carrot, spinach, apple, lemon, ginger
  • 1 Scorpion Lemonade – lemon, agave nectar, cayenne
  • 1 Green Firefly – apple, cucumber, celery, kale, spinach, lemon, parsley, pineapple
  • 1 Crescent Moon – raw cashews, vanilla bean, agave nectar, ground cinnamon, coconut oil, Himalayan sea salt

The green juices all seem pretty similar with one ingredient that differs. I started with the Pure & Simple juice.

Honestly, this juice was good. I am a huge fruit and veggie lover so I have no problem drinking green juice. Yes, it tastes like vegetables, but the apple and lemon give it that perfect balance of sweetness.

Jaden asked if he could try it and I said why not. His exact words were nah, it tastes like melted broccoli.

The juices are meant to be consumed 2 1/2 to 3 hours apart with the last one at least two hours before bed. Since I got a late start, I will be drinking my juices a little bit closer together. I drank the Balance juice about 12:30 pm, and it tastes the same as the first juice. So far, so good.

I like the juices, but it is weird not to eat any food. The juice cleanse comes with a set of instructions that says if you are extremely hungry then it’s okay to eat a couple of stalks of celery, half a cucumber, or 1/4 avocado.

It is currently 1:30 pm, and I don’t really feel hungry. I would say I just feel fine. Not hungry but not full either. I thought I would struggle in the beginning, but I think it’ll be harder later tonight and tomorrow. I have also been making sure to drink water. Day one of juice cleansing is halfway done!

Moving on….. I went to the book store and picked up the new Stephen King book, Joyland. I can’t wait to start reading it.

After the book store, the kids and I picked up my niece. Then, we went to the library to sign up for the summer reading program.

Now I’m just at home, making the kids lunch, and thinking about food….

Have a great afternoon!
