Nike Training Club Workout

Good afternoon!

Yesterday’s Workout

  • Treadmill: walk/run – 10 minutes
  • Nike Training Club Workout – 30 minutes

Last night, I rushed to the gym as soon as Danny got home to take the 5:40 pm HIIT class. I got there at exactly 5:40 pm only to find out that the class was on Tuedays, not Mondays. I mixed up my days.

Since I didn’t have a class to go to, I wasn’t sure what to do. I ended up pulling out my phone and using the Nike Training Club app for a great workout.

I started with a 10 minute warm-up on the treadmill and then I completed the following workout (I did change an exercise or two a little bit):

*Each exercise is done for a minute and with weights of your choice.

  • Straight leg kicks
  • Hopping side to side
  • Jogging in place
  • Sumo squat with press
  • Alternating medicine ball push-ups
  • Deadlift
  • Burpee to shoulder press
  • Side plank
  • Plank row
  • Russian twists
  • Modified push-ups
  • Side lunge with rotation
  • Deadlift with alternating row
  • Opposite arm/leg supermans
  • Sumo squat with press
  • Hip bridges with chest press
  • Deadlift
  • Burpee to shoulder press
  • Side plank
  • Plank row
  • Wide leg deadlifts
  • Russian twists
  • Side lunge with rotation
  • Deadlift with alternating rows
  • sumo squat with press
  • Hip bridges with chest press
  • Opposite arm/leg supermans
  • Quad stretch
  • Lower back stretch
  • Hamstring stretch

It was definitely a great workout with no recovery time in between so I worked up quite a sweat!

Yesterday afternoon, I drank the candy cane lane green tea and it was a lot better than I expected. I felt very festive drinking my peppermint tea out of a cute gingerbread mug.

Isn’t it nice how something as simple as a gingerbread mug can make a person happy.

Today’s Workout

  • Butts and Guts Class – 60 minutes

I worked out at the gym again this morning (my hip is sore!) I took the Butts and Guts class and it was awesome. I was supposed to work at the gym after my workout but plans got changed. I have been missing all my morning workouts, so it was nice to get back to the gym this morning.

This afternoon, I am going to practice BodyPump a little bit and then spend some time wrapping presents.

I still have quite a few Christmas presents to buy and tons to wrap!!

Have a great afternoon!

  • Do you ever use a phone app for workouts?
  • What simple thing makes you happy?

Koss Headphone Giveaway

I feel like I have been so busy and haven’t been around much lately!

Yesterday’s Workout

  • Cardio Fit & Tone Class – 60 minutes

I have been working a lot in the mornings lately, so I haven’t been able to keep up with my normal workouts. To get a workout in, I went to the gym last night and took a cardio fit¬†& tone class.

The class was mostly cardio with a few strength training moves, and then ended with some core work.

Whenever¬†I work out at night, it makes me so hungry! The class started at 6:25 pm so I didn’t want to eat dinner before I went, and by the time I got home at 7:45 pm, I was starving!

I work again this morning, so I might go to the gym again tonight. I am still sore from Sunday’s BodyPump and yesterday’s class, so we’ll see how I feel later.

Besides working, I have been trying to get some Christmas shopping done. I feel like the holidays are sneaking up on me this year and it’s going to be a rush to get everything done!

Danny spent the day after Thanksgiving putting up our outdoor Christmas decorations.

We delivered letters to Santa’s mailbox.

Elf on the Shelf made an appearance.

Jaden has been so excited to wake up every morning and find the elf.

Under The Weather

Good afternoon!

Thank you so much for all the encouraging words about my BodyPump certification. I really appreciate all your support!

I feel like¬†I have finally found something in life that I love doing as a career. I love fitness and although teaching and training make me really nervous sometimes, it’s something that I really enjoy doing. I feel like it helps other people feel good about themselves and improves their wellbeing which makes me happy.

Everyone has to start somewhere, and I feel like I can only improve as time goes on. So thank you for all your kind words!

The winner of the My Race Ragz giveaway is…

Please email me at runeatplay(at)hotmail(dot)com and I’ll give you the info on how to get your shirt! Enjoy – I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Today’s Workout

  • BodyPump – 60 minutes

There is a cold going around my house. The kids had it first and it quickly made its way to me so now I am feeling a little bit under the weather. Is anyone else sick around the holidays every single year?!

I debated running this morning but woke up really feeling the cold in my chest and I didn’t think running would be the best idea.

Do I say that all the time?! I debated running…but then I didn’t. I really need to get my butt running more. I did run two miles at the gym on Saturday after I completed a full body workout so that’s something :)

I took BodyPump instead and the nice thing about BodyPump is that you can adjust the weights to your level of fitness and since I wasn’t feeling the best, I just went a little lighter than normal and I still felt good about getting a workout in!

There’s no school this week, so Jaden went to the kid’s room at the gym.

He gets more marker on his hands and face then he does on the paper.

Breakfast this morning was Kashi oatmeal topped with peanut butter.

I buy crunchy peanut butter every once in awhile and every time I do, I remember that I don’t like it. I should stop buying it.

It seems like Thanksgiving is a bit late this year and Jaden has been dying to put out Christmas stuff. He’s just like me – he loves Christmas. So, we got out a few boxes of Christmas decorations and started putting some up around the house.

PicMonkey Collage

We won’t put our tree up until December so it’s nice to have some other decorations around the house. We always go as a family to cut down a Christmas tree in the beginning of December.

Have a great afternoon!

  • What are you plans for the week?
  • Have you started decorating for the holidays yet?
  • Real tree or fake tree?

Ab Circuit Workout

Good afternoon!

Only one more work/school day until holiday time! My kids are off of school all next week and Danny has a few days off too, so I am really looking forward to it!

Next week will be really busy – I have parent teacher conferences, a little bit of working at the gym,¬†errands and cooking to get done for Thanksgiving, and we have a second Thanksgiving dinner at our house on Friday that I have to shop and cook for. I can’t wait!

Today’s Workout

  • Ab Workout
  • Trifecta Class – 60 minutes

I was debated running or taking a class today. I finally decided to take a class because my calves and hip were sore from the cardio class on Wednesday so I was a little nervous about running. It turns out that I should have ran because that Trifecta class kicked my butt!

I have taken the Trifecta class before at my old gym, but at the new gym it’s a different instructor and it’s killer! My hip and glute are sore, but I got a great workout!

Before Trifecta class, I did an ab circuit workout that I put together.

PicMonkey Collage

Click here to see how to do an ab roll-up and here for how to do a wood chop sit-up.

Between the ab workout and trifecta class, I burned a little over 600 calories.

After my workout, I had an almond cashew with flax Kind bar.

After the gym, I ran a few errands before picking up my niece. I am trying to get Christmas shopping done here and there so I can be done early this year and start wrapping! I love shopping but I don’t love the wrapping so much. Luckily, Danny is an excellent wrapper, so he helps out a lot.

I picked up a cheap headband and gloves to wear to the race on Thanksgiving. Right now, the weather is showing a high of 31 degrees, so I am sure it’s going to be freezing in the morning.

--- 003

The headband and gloves are cute enough that I’d wear them again, but cheap enough that I don’t mind tossing them if I need to (only $2 each!). This will be my first race in such a cold temperature so I’m not sure how my body will warm up. I tend to warm up fast while running but I am also the type of person that is usually¬†freezing if I’m not working out.

When I was at the store, I saw these ninjabread cookies that I am thinking about getting for the kids.

How funny are those?!

I had an Amy’s gluten-free burrito for lunch along with a new chopped salad that I picked up at the store to try out.

--- 007

I love chopped salads -¬†I like the chopped lettuce so much better than regular lettuce. I didn’t eat the tortilla strips and threw on some pumpkin seeds instead.

Have a great afternoon!

  • Favorite ab exercise?
  • Any cold weather running tips?
  • Do you like gingerbread? I don’t like gingerbread cookies but I love the coffee!
  • What are you most looking forward to eating on Thanksgiving?

My Race Ragz Giveaway

Good afternoon!

I hope you’re all having a great day. The weather here in Chicagoland is getting cold and I am getting kind of nervous about the 5k coming up on Thanksgiving!

For breakfast this morning, I had a raspberry Greek yogurt topped with granola and pomegranate arils (seeds).

I haven’t¬†bought a¬†pomegranate in forever (basically because I am too lazy to¬†cut them) and I had to refer to the post that I wrote almost two years ago on¬†how to cut a pomegranate. They are easy to cut and get the seeds out, it can just be a tiny bit messy, but then you’re rewarded with delicious sweet pomegranate seeds!

Pomegranates are so good for you because they’re high in vitamin C and potassium, contain fiber, and are low in calories. I topped my yogurt with about an 1/8 of a cup of seeds and it was only about 16 calories.

Last Night’s Workout

  • 3.35 miles treadmill
  • Stretching – 10 minutes

Today’s Workout

  • Cardio Fusion Class – 60 minutes

I went on a field trip with Jacob’s class yesterday so I wasn’t able to workout in the morning. I went to the gym last night and ran on the treadmill. Then this morning, I took the cardio fusion class again. I think I’ll be taking this class on a weekly basis – it’s so much fun.

My Race Ragz

As a Sweat Pink Ambassador, I was recently given the opportunity to make my own custom running shirt from My Race Ragz.

My Race Ragz is a cool website that lets you pick out your style of running shirt from long sleeved to racing singlets.

From there, you can chose a pre-made design from their website, upload your own design, or just add text. You can even add text to the back. They have tons of pre-made designs to choose from including 5k, 10k, half marathons, marathon, barefoot running, maternity, motivational, Ironman, trail running, etc. The possibilities are endless.

Sometimes I get a bit of anxiety when faced with too many choices, but I had tons of fun browsing the website trying to find the perfect shirt to make. After trying to customize a shirt for two days, I finally decided just to add my own text to the front of a shirt. I just wanted to keep it simple. I went with the women’s energy singlet shirt and added text to the front only.

Here’s how it turned out:

I loved how it turned out. I love the pink color and how the pink looks against the white. This shirt is loose but not too loose. I tend to warm up really fast when I am working out so I love that it’s sleeveless and made out of 100% microfiber mesh. It’s moisture wicking and treated to inhibit the growth of odor causing bacteria.

I am on the taller side and have a longer torso, so I felt more comfortable putting on¬†a tank of my own under this shirt. I love how the pink words on the tank look with the pink tank underneath. Maybe I’ll ever wear it to the store :)

Of course, there was to be a great giveaway for one of these fun shirts! One winner will receive they’re very own customizable shirt from¬†My¬†Race Ragz.

To enter:

  • Comment below and let me know which kind of shirt you think you’d order. You can tell me the style shirt, the text color, the graphic you’d pick, anything!

Extra Entries:

  • Like My Race Ragz on¬†Facebook or¬†Twitter. Comment below and let me you that you did.
  • Follow Run Eat Play on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. Comment below and let me know you did.

**Please leave a separate comment for each entry!

Giveaway will run through Sunday, November 24th at 11:59 CST.

Thank you to Jenny from MetamorFit and My Race Ragz for providing me with a customizable shirt to review on my blog and for sponsoring the giveaway. All opinions are my own.

Cardio Fusion Class

Good afternoon!

Last Night’s Workout

  • BodyPump – 60 minutes

I didn’t workout yesterday morning, so I decided to take the evening BodyPump class instead. It’s always so different taking a class at night. In the mornings, we know each other and have certain ways of doing things whereas at night, they have their own group and way of doing things.

It’s nice to go workout in the evening once in awhile but I prefer the mornings.

Breakfast this morning was the gluten free Puffins cereal.

It was good, but the peanut butter puffins are way better.

Today’s Workout

  • Cardio Fusion Class – 60 minutes

Since I went to BodyPump last night, I decided to try out a new class at the gym this morning – Cardio Fusion. The first 30 minutes of the class were pretty much Zumba, then we did about 20 minutes of abs, and about 5 minutes of kickboxing moves.

It was a really fun class that I would take again.

Post workout, I had a Pure Protein shake.

By the time lunch rolled around today, I was hungry. I made an egg and cheese sandwich on Udi’s bread.

I also had a coconut pineapple sparkling water. Normally, I am not a fan of coconut, but this sparkling water flavor is the best one I’ve tried!

Tabata Xpress Class

Good afternoon!

I ran out of the almond flour pumpkin pecan pancakes that I made last week РI freeze them and warm them up in the microwave. Since, I had a little bit of almond flour left, I decided to try out the almond flour pancakes recipe from Matt at Runner Savvy.

Just as he said – they were really good pancakes! I only had about a cup of almond flour left, so I had to adjust the measurements accordingly. I topped mine with a little bit of peanut butter for the perfect breakfast.

I drank¬† my coffee out of my cute gingerbread coffee mug. It’s never to early to drink out of a holiday mug :)

After breakfast, I headed to the gym.

My niece and I from yesterday (I was trying the capris on!). She is currently on a plane to Florida!

Today’s Workout

  • Stretching, hip bridges, and band walking squats – 20 minutes
  • Walked on treadmill – 10 minutes
  • Tabata Xpress Class – 30 minutes

I took a new class at the gym this morning – Tabata Xpress. If you have never heard of tabata before, it’s a fast but effective and efficient workout. Some Tabata¬†workouts can be as short as four minute long because you’re doing such high intensity exercises. It gets your heart pumping!

Tabata is basically like interval training – you are working hard for a set amount of time followed by a short recovery. The Tabata class I took today consisted of doing a high intensity exercise for 30-60 seconds followed by a short rest time.

By the time 30 minutes are up, you’re ready to be done! In today’s 30 minute class, I burned 300 calories.

I’m going to try and get in a little bit of BodyPump practice this afternoon!

Have a good afternoon!

  • Have you ever done a tabata workout before?

Gluten Free Pumpkin Muffins

Happy Halloween!!

I hate to keep asking, but voting ends tonight for the NASM recipe contest and I am so close! If you have a free moment please vote here. I would really appreciate it!

Jaden was so excited about Halloween this morning. He wore his costume to a party over the weekend and can’t wait to wear it again tonight.

My other son, Jacob, really wanted me to tell you guys that he ran 3.25 miles in about 27 minutes. He has been really getting into running lately, and I’m looking into a 5k for him to run. He’s really excited about getting his own bib to wear :)

Breakfast this morning was a gluten-free pumpkin muffin that I made yesterday afternoon and egg whites.

Gluten Free Pumpkin Muffins – makes approx. 8 muffins

  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • handful crushed pecans – optional
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips – optional
  • 1 cup canned pumpkin

  4. Slowly whisk dry ingredients into wet ingredients. Stir in chocolate chips.
  5. Pour batter into muffins liners and top with pecans and pumpkin seeds. 040
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for approx. 20-25 minutes.

These were so delicious! I ate one when they were done and consumed it in about 30 seconds! :)

Today’s Workout

  • Stretching
  • Full body workout

Danny has the day off today, so we were able to go to the gym together this morning.

Stretching it out.

I look terrible when I workout. :)

I am going to Jaden’s Halloween party at his school later this afternoon and then it’s trick-or-treating time! Hopefully the rain will stop!

Have a great Halloween!

  • Do you have any plans for tonight?

Gluten Free Pizza Crust

Yesterday, I received my last Goodies box in the mail – for some reason, the company decided to cancel the service.

ya 001

I was excited to see that there was two gluten-free items in the box. Perfect timing!

Gluten-free pizza crust:

ya 006

I love that the bag says “foolproof”. :)

The was also an Enjoy Life gluten free¬†S’mores bar:

ya 008

Of course, I had to use the pizza crust right away and made it for dinner last night. They were right – it is foolproof. You just add water and olive oil and mix it together.

I added sauce, red pepper, green pepper, red onion, broccoli, mozzarella and feta cheese. It was delicious.

Speaking of gluten-free foods, I am happy that Larabars are gluten-free, GMO free, dairy-free, soy-free, vegan, and kosher. They do have carbs and sugar, so I plan on eating them in moderation.

Today’s Workout

  • Hip, glute, and quad stretches
  • Bridges, one-legged bridges, and walking lunges
  • Ab exercises
  • Arc trainer – 20 minute

I went to the gym this morning and got about an hour-long workout done. Danny has the day off tomorrow so I look forward to going to the gym with him in the morning before going to Jaden’s Halloween party in the afternoon!

If you have a free moment, could you please vote for my guacamole recipe on the NASM Facebook page – Heather’s Recipe. Just click “Love It”. I would really appreciate it! I think you might have to “like” the NASM Facebook page in order for your vote to count. Some people are having a hard time getting the vote to go through. Please vote if you get a chance!

Have a wonderful afternoon!

  • Favorite pizza topping?
  • Are you excited for Halloween tomorrow?
  • Squats or lunges? I pick squats all the way!!

Gluten Free Pecan Pumpkin Pancakes

Yesterday, I started the 28-day Grain Brain Challenge. Basically, it’s¬†gluten-free, lower carb diet, low sugar eating. I say lower carb because I am definitely eating a lot less carbs than I used too, but I¬†wouldn’t exactly call it low-carb. Just lower carb :)

I went to Whole Foods and the regular grocery store over the weekend to pick up some food items. I was excited because I found a recipe for gluten-free pumpkin muffins and gluten-free pancakes using almond flour/meal.

I didn’t buy the almond flour at Whole¬†Foods because it was so expensive and I’ve seen it at our local grocery store for less. So, I stopped at the grocery store to pick it up and it was sold out. Oh, well. So, I went¬†to another grocery store and they didn’t even carry it.

Yesterday morning, I went to Target to get almond flour, and they were also sold out. I  was just getting aggregated by this point. Three stores and no almond flour?!

I finally found almond flour at a different Target last night. I used it in a pancake recipe this morning.

Some of the things I picked up at the store:

  • Udi’s gluten-free bread
  • chunky peanut butter
  • pumpkin seeds
  • almond and pecans
  • flaxseed
  • canned pumpkin
  • romaine lettuce
  • baby greens
  • celery
  • green pepper
  • cucumber
  • broccoli
  • zucchini
  • gluten-free pizza sauce
  • mozzarella cheese
  • Muenster cheese
  • eggs
  • baking powder and baking soda
  • organic olive oil cooking spray
  • flakers – flax seed “crackers”

Yesterday wasn’t too hard – my meals seem smaller, so I think I am going to have to eat more smaller meals or bigger snacks so that I don’t get hungry.

I had one piece of Udi’s gluten-free bread for breakfast with peanut butter and egg whites. I have never had gluten-free bread before so I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was delicious! I could see myself eating this on a normal basis…I just wish it wasn’t so expensive.

Something that was not good? The flackers.

The first bite I tried wasn’t too bad. I poured some out onto a plate with some sliced cheese and tried to eat them. I couldn’t. I can’t even describe the taste, but it was bad. Sorry flackers. I had to throw my plate away. But this point I was pretty hungry and needed something¬†quick to eat, so I grabbed celery sticks with chunky peanut butter.

I think I am going to have to get some more food because I was a little hungry yesterday.

Since I was able to find the almond flour yesterday, I made almond flour pecan pumpkin pancakes this morning for breakfast.

Gluten-Free Almond Flour Pecan Pumpkin Pancakes – Makes approx. 6-8 small/medium pancakes

  • 1 1/2 cups almond flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
  • 2 tbsp. crushed pecans
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
  • 1/4 cup almond milk

  1. Mix together almond flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and pecans in a medium bowl.
  2. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the eggs, pumpkin, and almond milk.
  3. Slowly whisk dry ingredients into wet ingredients.
  4. Pour batter on a hot skillet and cook 1-2 minutes per side.
  5. Add your favorite topping – peanut butter, maple syrup, fresh fruit – and enjoy!

This was my first time having almond¬†flour and while I found the texture to be a bit different than regular pancakes, I still thought they were good. I topped mine with peanut butter but I think they’d be much better with maple syrup!

Today’s Workout

  • Stretching – 10 minutes
  • Butts and Guts Class – 60 minutes

I debated going to Butts and Guts this morning because of my hip/quad pain but I really miss that class, so I went and just took it a little easier than normal. According to my heart rate monitor, I still burned 522 calories. Not bad!

Have a great afternoon!

  • Did you workout today?
  • Have you ever had almond flour?
  • Pancakes, waffles, or French toast?¬†I think I would pick French toast!
