FRS + A Giveaway

  • The following post is sponsored by FitFluential LLC on behalf of FRS.

Good afternoon!

Even though I’m still injured, I have been slowly adding more exercise into my routine and this includes a lot of BodyPump training, which means that I really need to stay hydrated. I am excited to be trying out a great product that’s a nice change from water, keeps me hydrated, has lots of benefits, and tastes good.

FRS

First off, what is FRS? FRS is a energy and endurance product, and the story behind FRS is very interesting – FRS was originally developed by health scientists who found that it is an effective way to deliver sustained energy for chemotherapy patients.

Today, FRS is used by the general population including athletes, nutritionists, and anyone who leads an active lifestyle.

Some of the world’s most elite athletes use FRS for it’s great benefits – pro quarterback Tim Tebow and captain of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team Christie Rampone, as well as over 20 professional sports teams.

The great thing about FRS is that it delivers sustained energy, endurance, and provides immune system support. So, it’s not just for professional athletes, everyone can benefit from FRS products. And it’s available in different products – FRS makes drinks, powders, concentrates, and chews.

FRS Facts:

  • Fueled by Nature Endorsed by Science
  • Packed with healthy antioxidants, vitamins, and green tea extract
  • Features the powerful antioxidant quercetin which is found in the skin of blueberries, grapes, and apples (Quercetin has been shown to provide sustained energy, increased endurance, and immune system support in multiple clinical trials)
  • Contain the highest level and purity of quercetin available
  • Works at the cellular level to help your body produce it’s own natural energy
  • 100% RDI of seven essential vitamins

FRS is that it’s available at many different stores – GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, Kroeger, Whole Foods, Rite Aid, Meijer, Walgreen’s, Teeter Harris, and FRS.com. I’ve actually picked up FRS energy chews from my local Meijer in the past.

The first thing that I noticed about the FRS drinks was that there was a low-cal option. I am the kind of person that rather save my calories for food rather than drinks so I loved that there was a low-cal version of the drink.

I also noticed the wide variety of drink flavors – orange, apricot nectarine, low-cal orange, low-cal wild berry, low-cal peach mango, low-cal citrus pomegranate.

Whenever I see peach mango or orange mango flavored drink that’s always the first one that I grab.

I tired out the low-cal peach mango FRS drink while I was practicing my BodyPump tracks for my upcoming BodyPump certification. I kept doing the back track over and over and over, so this drink was a lifesaver. And it was delicious! It was flavorful and just plain good.

I’m saving the chews for when I am able to run again and I am crossing my fingers that it’ll be soon. The powders are great because I can just throw them in my purse when I leave the house, and I always have water with me to mix up a great drink.

OrthoLite Performance Insole Giveaway

Good afternoon!

After yesterday’s cortisone shot, my leg feels a lot better. I could walk up the stairs without wincing and I could sleep without that heavy leg feeling.

Today’s Workout

  • Upper Body Workout
  • Hip/Glute Stretches

The doctor said it was okay if I did upper body workouts, so this morning I went to the fitness room at my gym and did this workout:

It felt good to be able to stretch out my hip!

I know that part of my hip bursitis and quad pain comes from improper running form, which I am always trying to work on. So, recently when OrthoLite offered to send me a pair of their performance insoles to try out, I jumped at the chance.

I put them into my new Mizunos last week and off running I went.

OrthoLite insoles offer the ultimate in comfort, cushioning, and breathability. They solve the most common in-shoe problems by creating a cooler, drier, and healthier foot environment with innovative technology.

I wore these insoles to run a few times last week and I love how they felt. They felt light in my shoes but still offered support.

The OrthoLite insoles provide:

  • Designed to fit all athletic and outdoor shoes or boots
  • Made with open-cell foam, allowing air to circulate around the foot, keeping it cooler and drier inside the shoe
  • Wicks moisture away from your foot leaving your foot cooler and drier
  • Unique spring-back technology ensures that your insole won’t flatten out and it will retain over 95% of its thickness over time
  • Our patented anti-microbial formulation (approved by the EPA and FDA) fights fungus, bacteria and shoe odor
  • Lightweight and fully washable

I really liked that the OrthoLite insoles are affordable. Running shoes cost enough money that it’s nice to find an affordable insole. And $1 from each purchase goes directly to the Level Field Fund, a grant-giving program that strives to bridge the gap in funding to uniquely trained athletes.

Giveaway

You can enter to try out your own pair of OrthoLite insoles! OrthoLite will send a pair of insoles to three winners.

Yesterday’s Workout

  • 8.23 mile bike ride

Yesterday evening, the kids went to a last-minute park district activity, so that left Danny and me with two unplanned hours of kid-free time. That never happens. We decided to take advantage of the free time and go for a bike ride.

IMG_20130715_192855

20130715_183350

It was our first bike ride ever with just the two of us.

IMG_20130715_193017

On our bike ride, one of my biggest fears happened – as we were riding down the bike trail, a huge snake slithered out right it front of my bike (I don’t care what Danny says – that snake was huge. And I don’t care what my dad says, it was probably poisonous).

Okay, maybe it wasn’t huge or poisonous, but it really startled me. That is not my idea of fun. I screamed and took off on my bike – that was the fastest and hardest that I have ever rode my bike in my life. Danny slammed on his breaks because my scream scared him and he had to avoid hitting the snake.

As I am pedaling away as fast as I can, I just hear him laughing behind me. Thanks, Danny. That’s sweet. All I can say is thank goodness I hadn’t been running. I would have been even more upset…but I probably would have ran really fast.

After that little fiasco, we rode a total of 8.23 miles. I burned 319 calories this time, a little bit more than my bike ride with Jacob.

20130715_192319

Danny and I rode some fast miles, but we also rode some slow miles because my quad would start to hurt. It was a really nice bike ride and I’m glad that I got to ride with my husband.

When we picked the kids up and told them about the snake, the first thing Jaden asked was if I took a picture of it. No, I didn’t stop to take a picture of it – I was busy pedaling as fast as I could and watching my heart rate jump from 110 to 160 in 5 seconds.

I have to share this picture of my niece in my Spibelt because she’s so darn cute. :)

Today’s Workout

  • Butts and Guts Class – 60 minutes

Butts and Guts class was tough today. It was a substitute instructor and she did the whole class on the Bosu ball, which was tough. It was a lot of leg work which killed my already sore legs. I am all for hard workouts, but I have a feeling my legs aren’t going to be too happy tomorrow.

Have a great afternoon!

Sambazon Juices and Smoothies + A Giveaway!

Last Night’s Workout

  • 4 miles outside, hot

*Note to self: Avoid evening runs at all costs.

Somehow, I went from having the best run of my life to having the worst run. I think it was a mix of running at night, already working out that morning, and the heat that made my run so horrible. I ran at about 6:15 pm last night and it was still 90 degrees outside.

IMG_20130514_180903

I brought my hand-held water bottle with me, but halfway through my run the water was already hot. My body and legs just didn’t want to cooperate. I had to take a lot of walk breaks. The positive side is that I finished. I ran/walked my 4 miles and didn’t give up.

I could hardly walk into the house when I got home and immediately went to take a cold shower. Then, I made a strawberry peach smoothie for dinner…and chocolate cheerios with almond milk :)

Speaking of post workout food…

Sambazon

I was recently sent some Sambazon juice and smoothie products to try out through the Moms Meet program.

First they sent me this wooden bowl and spoon, which I love!

The bowl is really big and the bigger the bowl, the more cereal you can fit in it! They also sent me some coupons to pick up some Sambazon juices and smoothies to try out.

About Sambazon : I picked out the Acai with blueberry and pomegranate superfood juice blend and the protein acai berry + vanilla superfood smoothie (I love my protein!). The acai juices have powerful antioxidants and healthy omegas. The protein smoothies have 8g – 10g of organic vegan whole food protein per bottle and healthy omegas. The protein smoothie is perfect as a post workout snack. Protein helps build lean muscle.

Sambazon also has energy flavors, supergreens with kale and ginger, and a blended breakfast drink which has grains, chia, and organic/non-GMO verified soymilk.

I just saw on the Sambazon website that they have a energy mocha java superfood smoothie that I must get my hands on!

Not very surprisingly, I drank the acai berry and vanilla protein smoothie first. I thought it was great. It’s not chalky tasty like some protein drinks are, and tasted good. I love the mix of the acai berry and vanilla. The acai with blueberry and pomegranate was also really good. Of course, Jaden needs to help me sample everything :)

Studying the bottle:

QuestBar Protein Bar Giveaway!

Good morning! Happy Friday!

Quest Protein Bars

Since I’m not really a meat eater, I am always looking for new ways to get protein in my diet, especially after a workout, which is why I love trying out different protein bars. I have been seeing QuestBar protein bars a lot on different blogs and decided that I should try them out!

Quest sent me a sample box of bars to try out along with some protein peanut butter cups. Yes, I said protein peanut butter cups. Awesome.

044

Quest bars are low carb and gluten free.

They have:

  • NO Sugar Alcohols (Original Line)
  • NO Sugar Used
  • No Artificial Sweeteners (All Natural Line)
  • NO Glycerine
  • NO Junk Ingredients
  • NO Soy Protein
  • Gluten Free
  • Only 4-6 Non-Fiber Carbs

I like these bars because they have a lot of protein but not too many calories. The bars have between 160 and 210 calories and 20-21 grams of protein each!

048

As I’ve said, I am always trying out different protein bars, and these are great for after BodyPump because they have a great amount of protein in them, and they taste good!

I was impressed by all the different flavors of Quest bars.

  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
  • Cinnamon Roll
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter
  • Coconut Cashew
  • Banana Muffin Nut
  • Strawberry Cheesecake
  • Vanilla Almond Crunch
  • Mixed Berry Bliss
  • Peanut Butter and Jelly
  • Peanut Butter Supreme
  • Chocolate Brownie
  • Apple Pie

So far, my favorite is the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. I’ve even heard a rumor that you can heat it up in the microwave for a few seconds for that freshly baked cookie taste.

The first flavor that I tried was the chocolate peanut butter and it was good. The next flavor that I am excited to try is the peanut butter and jelly flavor. How fun is that?!

Rambo Danny liked the protein peanut butter cups.

Albion Fit Workout Clothes Giveway!

It is snowing here in Chicagoland…again. I am so sick of the snow and am ready for nice weather!

Luckily, Albion sent me the Go Long Crew with Thumb Holes shirt in fuchsia to try out – long sleeves to keep warm! I love that this shirt is actually long. I have a long torso, so I have a hard time finding shirts that are long enough, but this one fits the bill :)

I also am a sucker for thumb holes. I mean, who doesn’t love thumb holes!

I like the crew neck on the shirt – it can be worn alone or layered with a tank underneath. I love the fact that although it’s a workout shirt, it could also double as a regular shirt. It would be great for going from the gym and then out to run a few errands and such. I can see myself wearing it over my gym tanks for going to and from the gym.

The Go Long Crew is a silky and lightweight spandex blend, perfect for working out in. I ordered mine is a size medium.

If the weather stays like this, it’ll be the perfect shirt to wear to the Egg Shuffle 5k coming up soon!

In addition to workout clothing, Albion also offers women’s fitness and swimwear. Their website has a bunch of great tennis outfits, hoodies, workout wear, bathing suits, pants, shorts, and shirts. They have it all!

You can win an Albion Crew Shirt for yourself!

To Enter (Mandatory):

  • Like Albion Fit on Facebook.
  • Go to the Albion Fit website and “pin” your favorite item to any of your Pinterest boards. Then leave a comment on this post with the link to the pin.

Here’s a few of the items that I pinned:

Alexia Sweet Potato Fries + A Giveaway!

Good afternoon! For some reason, I am exhausted today. Is anyone else tired? I feel like I could sleep for a long long time.

I still made it to the gym this morning though :)

Today’s Workout

  • Plank #14: 2 minutes and 56 seconds
  • 4 miles, treadmill
  • Stretching – 10 minutes

Instead of going to Step Class this morning, I decided to run on the treadmill. I ran for about 3.3 miles and walked the rest. I finished up with some much-needed stretching.

Post-run, I had a Designer Whey triple chocolate crunch bar. I think this flavor might be even as good as the peanut butter flavor!

Lunch

Lunch this afternoon was extra delicious because it included  Alexia Sweet Potato Fries!

I love French fries. If I don’t order them when we go out, I always make sure that Danny orders some, so that I can steal a few.

I was really excited to try the Alexia sweet potato fries because they are so much better for you than regular potatoes, and they’re all ready to go right into the oven! Sometimes making your own sweet potato fries can be time-consuming, and I’m all about time-savers.

Sweet potatoes are good for you because they’re high in fiber, contain vitamin B6 which is good for your heart, are rich in beta-carotene (vitamin A), as well as vitamins C and E.

Alexia Sweet Potato Fries just received The American Heart Association Certification.

When using a healthy cooking method, such as baking, the product is certified with the iconic Heart-Check mark for meeting certification criteria that limits fat, saturated and trans fat, cholesterol and sodium, and requires a beneficial nutrient like Vitamin A. Established in 1995, the Heart-Check mark gives consumers an easy, reliable system for identifying heart-healthy foods as a first step in building a sensible eating plan.

(Source)

I had my sweet potato fries alongside my bagelwich for lunch.

I even got my niece to try them. First, she stared at them for a while.

Then she decided that they were okay to taste.

Finally, she loved them so much that she had to savor the taste!

Great for adults and kids!

Giveaway Time!

Alexia is offering one reader an awesome Alexia gift item package, including:

  • Alexia apron
  • Spatula
  • Cutting Board
  • A coupon for a free Alexia product

Pretty great gift pack!

To Enter:

  • Comment below and tell me your favorite way to eat potatoes!

Crunchmaster Snacks…and a Giveaway!

Good morning and Happy Monday!

Last week, I mentioned eating a package of Crunchmaster Crackers that my gym had out for members. Well, the people at Crunchmaster were nice enough to send me a few of their delicious crackers to try.

About Crunchmaster products:

It’s not so much what’s inside our crackers as what’s not inside. At Crunchmaster, we believe in keeping our products down-to-earth and easy to understand. We don’t put in any artificial flavors, preservatives or other icky stuff.

Our products are only made with simple ingredients like pure, California grown rice, sesame, quinoa, amaranth and flax seeds.

All their products are also gluten-free.

I tried the sea salt crackers at my gym, and I loved them. As soon as I got the crackers, I had to try out the white cheddar flavor, and they were just as good as the sea salt flavor.

I ate some white cheddar crackers with hummus and veggies as a snack.

Even though the cinnamon and sugar grammy crisps are geared towards kids, they were the ones that I was most looking forward to trying (it must be my sweet tooth!)

They were the perfect blend of crunchiness and sweetness. The kids loved them too!

They also liked the cheesy crisps which have only 120 calories for 60 crackers! A great snack for kids and adults.

The best part….

Crunchmaster’s is going to send one lucky reader a six-pack sampler of their crackers!

TO ENTER:

  • Leave me a comment telling me what your favorite crunchy snack is!

Additional Entries (Optional):

Please leave a separate comment for each entry! Good luck!

The giveaway will run until Wednesday, February 6th at 11pm CST.

Babies + A Giveaway!

So, I thought we could talk about something a little different today – kids.

I have two boys, Jacob and Jaden, ages 11 and 5. Two kids seem like the perfect number to me, but I always thought about what it would be like to have a girl.

Then, my brother and sister-in-law found out they were expecting a girl, and I was beyond excited. I am perfectly happy having a niece because I can still shop for girl clothes, play dress-up and barbies with her, and go to Disney Princesses on Ice.

All the benefits of having a girl…without actually having one.

Crazy Faces:

I watch my niece in the afternoons, so I know what it’s like to have three children. It’s hard. I know that I am perfectly suited to have only two kids and honestly think that having three kids might make me very stressed out. I give a lot of credit to people with three or more kids. Danny and I decided that we are done having kids.

We have two beautiful kids, two nephews, and a niece. We are very lucky because I know that some people struggle to have children and that must be an incredibly hard thing to deal with. To me, kids are what gives my life meaning (even if they do make me crabby sometimes). :) I could never imagine my life without children.

Yesterday, I was playing with my niece, thinking about how stinkin’ cute she is and how much she looks like her mama (my sister-in-law). Then it hit me that I would never see what my own little girl would look like. Would she be blond like me? Dark haired like Danny? I will never play barbies with my own daughter or brush her hair or talk about boys.

Something like that has never really hit me before because I am perfectly happy with my niece and I am lucky to have such a close family where I can see her everyday and play with her and dress her up. But she has a mom. I’m just Auntie Heather. Which is fine, don’t get me wrong. I just wondered what it would be like to have my own little girl.

I wonder if it’s because I am a girl that I wonder what my own little girl would be like. If we had two girls instead of two boys would Danny want a boy?

Don’t get scared, Danny, I don’t plan on having another baby. I just felt sad that I would never experience a daughter of my own. But then I realized how truly blessed I am to have two healthy kids and a niece that I can still do all the girly things with.

Now that that’s out of my system…we can move on.

Breakfast

Breakfast was an oatmeal explosion. I seriously can’t figure out why it exploded. I cooked it the same way I do every morning. What a pain.

Today’s Workout

  • 5.33 miles treadmill
  • 10 minutes stretching

I ran over 5 miles on the treadmill this morning – I haven’t done that in a while! I guess I’m getting ready for Pile on the Miles. Too bad these miles don’t count.

Earlier this morning, after I came home from bringing Jaden to the bus stop, the Fed Ex man had left a box of thinkThin bars that I had won through their Facebook page. If you haven’t already, you should check out thinkThin’s facebook page – they do awesome giveaways for their customers and fans.

I have been buying thinkThin for years because not only do they have a lot of protein, but they taste delicious! So, I was excited when I won six boxes of the thinkThin cookies and cream bites bars.

They are portioned controlled bars with only 100 calories and 5 grams of protein. I had one after my workout this morning.

I was very lucky to win six boxes, and I love to share, so I am going to give away a box of the thinkThin bars to one of you guys that I will personally mail out to you.

All you have to do to enter is comment on this post telling me that you want to win the thinkThin bars. Easy peasy.

The giveaway will run through Sunday night. US residents only please. Good Luck!

Questions of the day:

  • Do you have kids? How many? Boys or girls?
  • Do you want kids?
  • Do you want to win some thinkThin bars?!

You Pick It Giveaway!

Do you want to know something funny? Jaden wears his helmet just to play outside.

He’s not riding his bike or his skateboard. He’s just playing outside with the neighborhood kids. And he wears his helmet.

It reminds me of when I read Drop Dead Healthy by A.J. Jacobs, and he wore a helmet walking around the city in an attempt to be as safe as he possibly could.

But for whatever reason, as soon as he goes outside, Jaden puts on his helmet. Maybe he plans to ride his bike at some point and doesn’t want to come back in for his helmet? I don’t know, but I think it’s funny. At least his head is protected.

Yesterday’s Evening Workout

  • LAST Biggest Loser Workout – 1 hr 45 min

Last night we walked the trail that we will be running for Saturday’s 5k, and we stopped every so often to use resistance tubes and do cardio exercises. Then we ran a mile and compared it to our mile time from the first day of the 5k prep.

Unfortunately, my shoulder is in some serious pain, and as soon as I took one step to run, I got a terrible shooting pain in my shoulder. I couldn’t run. At all. Instead I walked half a mile with a couple of the other ladies who are walking the 5k.

In fact, I couldn’t do half of the exercises that we did last night, and I am feeling very discouraged. This is the worst time to get an injury because I wanted to do really good at the 5k. When I had detached rib cartilage (it’s as painful as it sounds) my doctor told me to use the heating pad first thing in the morning and to ice the injury during the day.

So, I iced my shoulder yesterday, and this morning I used the heating pad and plan to ice it during the day. I also have been taking ibuprofen.

We did end the night with a super fun game! The instructor brought out balloons and told us to tie them to our ankles. As soon as she said this, I knew what we were doing – real life Mario Kart!

I made sure to make my enthusiasm known, although some people had no idea what I was talking about and thought I was crazy. There’s a game in Mario Kart where balloons surround the vehicle and you have to drive around trying to pop your opponents balloons.

(Source)

Well, that’s what we did last night – we all ran around the parking lot with balloons tied to our ankles trying to pop each others. I didn’t last very long and my balloon was popped in the beginning of the game, but I had so much fun!

Today’s Workout

  • 3.1 miles treadmill – 50 minutes
  • 15 minutes stretching

I walked slowly on the treadmill this morning keeping my pace between 3.0 and 4.0 mph. I made sure to strecth really good afterwards.

Look what I saw at the grocery store today- Honeycrisp apples! Only the best apples ever. (Expensive, but totally worth it). Fall has officially arrived!

In other exciting news, I won thePlate Awards 2012 for Healthy Eating Champ of the Year! You can check it out here! And you can check out this article, if you want.

Thank you so much to all of you who voted for me! I really couldn’t have done it without you guys, and I appreciate it so much!

I wanted to show my appreciation by having my own giveaway. I’ve decided that I will pick one winner and give them their choice of a $10 gift card to Whole Foods, Starbucks, or Target (and maybe a couple other surprises!)

Once again, thank you so much! You guys are awesome!

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment letting me know which gift card you would like to win: Whole Foods, Starbucks, or Target.

Giveaway will run though Monday night, and I will announce the winner on Tuesday morning. Don’t forget to check back to see if you’ve won!
