Christmas Eve Circuit Workout

Happy Christmas Eve!!

The kid’s elf, Nick, is very excited that it’s almost Christmas!

002

011

Yesterday, we had a busy day. Jacob had a dentist appointment to get a tooth pulled, I had physical therapy, and then we ran a few errands. When we got home, the kids wrapped their presents for Danny.

008

I also baked a ton of cookies yesterday. I made my favorite, Butterscotch Reese’s cookies.

I also made Peanut Butter Blossoms.

And regular chocolate chip cookies.

As much as I love the holidays, I can’t wait until they’re over so I can get back on track with eating. I have been sampling too many delicious cookies lately!

This morning, I headed to the gym at about 8:00 am to get my workout in before we go to my grandparent’s house later this afternoon.

Crazy hair, don’t care:

IMG_20141224_080209

I started with 12 minutes on the elliptical to warm-up and then I did the following circuit workout. I did each circuit three times, resting 1-2 minutes in between. (Use weights you’re comfortable with.)

Circuit #1:

  • lateral raises with an alternating knee raise x12 each leg
  • ball wall squat with a biceps curl to overhead press x15
  • seated stability ball overhead triceps extensions x15

Circuit #2:

  • kettlebell swings x20
  • chest flies on stability ball x15
  • straight arm overhead reach on stability ball x15

Circuit #3:

  • woodchoppers with medicine ball x12 each side
  • plank/side plank (45 seconds each)
  • heel touches x20 each side
  • donkey kicks with weight behind knee x12 each leg

It was a good Christmas Eve workout!!

When I got home I started getting things ready for tonight. I am making one more batch of cookies. Jacob asked me to make Nutella cookies and he never asks me to make anything special for him so I decided to try them out. I just made regular chocolate chip cookies, added a little Nutella, and then I will do a Nutella drizzle on top of the cookies.

The dough is chilling right now, so we’ll see how they come out! I am also making a buffalo chicken dip for my grandparent’s house tonight. We’re supposed to be getting snow soon but I hope the weather isn’t too bad because my grandparent’s live about an hour away. And then Santa comes tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope you all have a wonderful and safe Christmas!

  • What are your plans for tonight and tomorrow?

Working Out and Physical Therapy

Good afternoon! Happy Wednesday – we’re halfway through the week! I’m excited because Danny has Friday off of work and we’re going Christmas shopping and hopefully we’ll check everything off our list.

Yesterday

Guess where I went yesterday? If you guessed the gym then you know me too well. :)

I drop Jaden off every morning and then head to the gym. Yesterday morning was busy and I had to grab breakfast on the go. Jaden absolutely loved his face in this picture:

IMG_20141209_082929

I started off my workout with 30 minutes on the stationary bike. I went a total of 7.5 miles.

20141209_092511

Next, I did some chest exercises including:

  • incline chest press machine
  • decline chest press machine
  • chest press on the stability ball
  • chest flies on the stability ball

Sometimes I add push-ups into my routine but my wrist has really been bothering me lately so I’m skipping the push-ups until it starts to feel better.

I finished my workout with a little bit of walking, stretching, and foam rolling.

After the gym, I had a physical therapy appointment. It works out good because my physical therapist is literally three minutes away from my gym. My achilles tendon has been bothering me a lot lately so the physical therapist worked on that. I’m also not supposed to run until it starts feeling better. I’m not even supposed to walk on the treadmill if it bothers me. So I’m going to take a short break from running until it gets better.

I got quite the workout at physical therapy yesterday. When I’m feeling good, she has me do a lot. I decided to wear my heart rate monitor yesterday to see how many calories I burned during my physical therapy session. In 45 minutes, I burned 407 calories, and I burned 555 calories at the gym before that.

Some of my physical therapy exercises yesterday included:

  • sprints in the elliptical (15 seconds hard/30 seconds rest)
  • leg press
  • single leg press
  • jumps on the leg press
  • single leg deadlifts
  • walking lunges
  • band walking side to side
  • balance exercises

I’m actually surprised that I’m not more sore today!

Today

I don’t remember if I’ve mentioned it, but Jaden’s Elf on the Shelf, Nick, is back this year. This morning, Jaden found him playing Battleship with a teddy bear.

001

Jaden absolutely loves Nick. :)

This morning at the gym, I rode the stationary bike for 15 minutes and then did back exercises. Now I’m home and have a few Christmas crafts to work on. I can’t share what they are yet because they’re Christmas presents.

Have a great afternoon!

  • Have you finished Christmas shopping?
  • Do you ever make homemade presents?
  • Did you workout today?

Things I’m Loving

Good afternoon!

One week until Christmas and three days until the kids are off of school for two weeks! Fun times.

Today, I thought I’d talk about a few things that I’m loving lately.

1. Cardio Fusion Class – 1/2 cardio dancing and 1/2 strength training. It’s the best of both worlds! I went to class this morning and I love that it’s a fun class but still a great workout.

2. Vienna Kosher Dill Chips – I love pickles. I love them. So good. I usually buy the Claussen dill sandwich slices, but I saw these Vienna pickles at the store and had to try them out. I bought the jar three days ago and they’re almost gone. Like I said, I love pickles.

007

3. Pop Chips – I also love chips. It seems like I love crunchy and salty snacks. I know that potato chips aren’t the best for me so I have been eating Pop Chips. I’m sure they’re not all that great for me either but at least they’re slightly better regular chips.

019

4. EOS lip balm – actually any lip balm or Chapstick in general. I think I have no less than five lip balms within five feet of me at all times. Danny says I have a problem. I disagree.

029

5. Nick, our elf – This morning Nick made snowmen out of donuts. He sure is a clever elf.

032

6. Baking – I usually prefer cooking to baking because baking requires exact measurements and I like to just throw ingredients together, but lately I have been loving trying out new cookie recipes. I plan on baking all my Christmas cookies these weekend, so I bought some cheap mixing bowls (I only have one big one) and some cookie boxes.

009

7. The Twilight Zone – this is totally random but the Twilight Zone is one of my favorite TV shows. The old black and white episodes, not the newer ones. They come on a lot during Halloween but the SyFy channel randomly plays them so my TV is set up to record them when they’re on. And then I watch them. Because I love them.

  • What are you loving lately?

Christmas Tree Weekend

Good afternoon! It’s Monday! How was your weekend?

Saturday

On Saturday morning, we went to cut down our Christmas tree.

My niece loved the horses that take you out to the field.

There wasn’t any snow but it was freezing out! After walking the field for a long time and looking at all the trees, we finally found the perfect Christmas tree.

Danny cut it down with Jacob and my brother’s help and then we headed back for some much need hot chocolate!

We ran into Santa and Rudolph :)

Sunday

On Sunday morning, we went to breakfast with Santa at the fire station. My brother-in-law is a firefighter and organized this year’s breakfast.

I might be wrong, but I don’t think my nephew is too fond of Santa…

The kids had fun eating pancakes, visiting with Santa, and climbing in the fire trucks.

As we were leaving to drive back home, it started snowing….and it continued to snow all day long.

Jaden was so excited to face plant himself in a snow hill on the way to the bus stop this morning.

I was happy to run back inside the house because I don’t like snow or 19 degree weather.

Sunday evening, we spent decorating our tree.

Today

I worked for a couple of hours this morning. I’m going to practice the new BodyPump this afternoon and I am thinking about going to the gym tonight.

I always drink coffee in the mornings, but in the afternoon, I usually have a cup of tea. I get so cold in the afternoons and drinking tea helps warm me up!

I usually drink the Tazo green tea, but I saw Celestial Seasonings Candy Cane Lane green tea at Target this weekend and picked it up to try.

I am looking forward to drinking a cup of it this afternoon.

Elf on the Shelf

Our elf, Nick, has been having fun around our house lately. This morning, he made himself some pancakes.

I’m not sure how he managed to get the pancake mix out and cook the pancakes, but he did :)

Have a wonderful afternoon!

  • What do you top your tree with? A star? An angel?
  • Coffee or tea?

Elf on the Shelf

Good afternoon! I feel like I haven’t talked to you guys in forever even though in reality, it’s only been a couple of days!

Saturday

On Saturday night my sister-in-law, Crystal, turned 30 and completed her first half marathon.

Congrats, Crystal!

Even though we weren’t able to be in Florida with her, we were able to track her on Facebook. On the Disney website, you can sign up to receive updates on a certain runner, so we were able to follow her progress all night!

My brother, sister-n-law, and niece are still in Florida having fun.

I miss my niece so much and I am counting the days until she gets back. I might be overly attached.

Crystal has inspired me to find a half marathon of my own to run! I am looking at local races in the spring so I have lots of time to train. I am going to train slow so that I can hopefully avoid injury this time.

Yesterday’s Workout

  • Ab work, burpees on Bosu, balancing on Bosu
  • Cardio Fit & Tone Class – 60 minutes

The kids had off of school yesterday, so I went to the gym in the evening. I did a little bit of a workout on my own before going to cardio fit and tone class.

Today

I had two clients a couple of hours apart at the gym this morning, so I worked and ran errands in between and after clients.

I stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few things. I was excited to find gluten-free Puffins.

20131112_133959

Too bad they’re not peanut butter.

And Amy’s gluten-free lasagna.

20131112_135308

For the most part, I try to eat fresh and whole foods like fruits, veggies, salads, fish, etc, but sometimes I am pressed for time and just need something I can eat quick – which is where the cereal and lasagna come in :)

Random Purchases

I have finally given in to the Elf on the Shelf hype and bought one for Jaden.

20131110_111553

I am now an Elf on the Shelf Mom.

If you don’t know what Elf on the Shelf is, it’s a book and stuffed elf. You read the book to your kids about how the elf watches over them and reports to Santa about their behavior each night. Then each morning, the kids wake up and have to find the elf (but they’re not allowed to touch him).

There are so many websites dedicated to ways the kids can find the elf in the morning – hanging on the Christmas tree, drinking from the syrup bottle, rolling down the stairs in a toilet paper tube, baking, making flour angels. Honestly, it’s a bit crazy.

We will open and read the book on Thanksgiving and then the fun will begin. I already have a Pinterest board with lots of Elf on the Shelf ideas. But I’ll tell you this – if that elf were to go report to Santa today about my kid’s behavior, they probably wouldn’t  get a Christmas present for the rest of their lives.

I also found these cute milk and cookies plates at Target for only $1.99. I got one for my kids and one for my niece.

20131111_112454

I am getting excited for the holidays!

One of our neighbors already has their whole house decked out in Christmas lights. It’s funny because the house right across the street still has Halloween decorations up! We usually put decorations up the day after Thanksgiving.

Have a great afternoon!

  • What did you do this weekend?
  • Have you ever done Elf on the Shelf?
  • When do you decorate for the holidays?
