The Weekend

Good afternoon. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Saturday

Danny and I went to the gym on Saturday morning. We worked on shoulders and core. Some of our exercises included:

  • shoulder press machine
  • front plate raise with a twist
  • upright rows
  • Arnold presses
  • lateral cable raises
  • partner sit-ups with a medicine ball
  • planks

Post workout, we took some selfies. Totally normal.

Saturday evening, we drove about 40 minutes to see a Christmas lights display.

The lights were really cool and it was fairly short so we drove through twice. It was nice because you got to see all the Christmas lights from your car and it was free with the option to leave a donation at the end. I really enjoyed it. Danny and the kids liked it too.

Sunday

My adductor and quad were really sore on Friday and Saturday so I debated on going to the gym on Sunday. I was kind of having a bad morning on Sunday but finally around 11 am, Danny and I decided to head to the gym. Sometimes working out helps me feel better when I’m stressed or having a bad day.

Pre-workout, I had the Cellucor C4.

I planned on walking for a few minutes to warm up but ended up going longer. I was going to walk on Sunday and run today but I was feeling really good walking so I decided to try running. I ended up running 14 minutes which is my longest run since my hip surgery. I felt really good but I was sore afterwards.

We also did a biceps and triceps workout which included:

  • cable biceps curls
  • hammer curls
  • biceps curl machine
  • overhead triceps extensions (with dumbbells and on the cable machine)
  • triceps pushdowns

We had a limited about of time since the kid’s room closes at 12:30 and we had to get Jaden, but we still got a really good workout in!

Sunday evening, we went to Whole Foods and I had a California roll for dinner. Jaden had a dairy free pizza that we found at our local grocery store.

I was really worried that he wouldn’t like it but he ended up eating two slices! He said it was good but I know he’ll end up eating it two or three times and then tell me that he doesn’t like it anymore and never eat it again.

Jaden is picky and only likes certain foods so finding dairy free options for him can be challenging.

After dinner, we worked on making and wrapping some Christmas gifts!!

Today, I went to the gym but took it really easy. I rode the stationary bike for 15 minutes and then I walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes. Unfortunately, my Achilles tendon has been bothering me a lot lately. (I swear, if it’s not one thing it’s another. Why can’t I ever just be 100%?! So frustrating!) I made sure to stretch and foam roll afterwards.

Have a great afternoon!!

Weekend Fun…and More Cookies

Good morning! Happy Sunday!

I haven’t been around for a couple of days, so this post is going to contain a lot of randomness.

First up, Danny got a car!! It’s Chevy Equinox, and Danny is very happy with it. It’s the first SUV we’ve ever owned and I’m sure the space will come in handy.

Danny’s really good about keeping cars for a long time. I think he’s owned two cars in his life, whereas I’ve owned quite a few.

Friday.

On Friday morning, I taught BodyPump. I brought my new water bottle.

I saw this water bottle at Dick’s Sporting Goods a few weeks ago and fell in love with it. Hey, the paint splatter reminds me of the 80’s, and I love all things 80’s. But it was around $16 so I didn’t buy it.

I finally decided that I wanted it and went back to buy it. You can never have too many workout clothes or water bottles. Even though I think Danny disagrees with me on this – he’s always trying to throw my water bottles away.

When I went back to buy it, it was gone :(. I tried looking online for it with no success. Then, on Thursday night, I went to TJMaxx to buy something else, and there was my water bottle! And it was only $8! Awesome.

Friday’s BodyPump class went pretty well, and I worked for a little bit afterwards.

Tea

Although coffee is my #1 love, I have been loving tea lately. I found this super cute coffee mug at Michael’s for only $2.99 and I got some Celestial Seasonings Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride from Target to try out.

The tea really does taste like a sugar cookie! It’s really good but the peppermint flavor is still my favorite.

Saturday

Saturday morning, Jacob had an eye doctor appointment. Jacob was born 15 weeks early, weighing 1 lb. and 14 oz. He has had a few complications but nothing serious. As a baby, he had eye surgery to correct a condition called exotropia, which basically means that his left eye wants to turn outward rather than straight.

He had eye surgery as a baby to cut the muscle to force the eye to go straight. He wore an eye patch for extended periods during the day to help strengthen that eye. He has very little vision in that eye and the glasses help him to continue to use it.

There is always a possibility that his eye could go back outward again, so we see the eye doctor often for check-ups. It was a routine visit and the doctor said everything is looking good.

Saturday evening, we went with my family to an illumination show at a nearby arboretum.

All of the trees are lit up with different kinds of lights.

You can change some of the lights by waving your hand over a certain place and you could hug trees to change their lights.

It was really neat although it was freezing out and the kids were being a little overly energetic (read: crazy).

Afterwards, we had some hot chocolate…or three, before deciding to go to Red Robin for dinner. Two words – bottomless fries.

Cookies

I made another cookie recipe, oatmeal peanut butter chocolate chip.

001

I have been making so many cookies lately because I like to give them out during the holidays and I wanted to narrow it down to three delicious kinds of cookies. I think I am going to make chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter blossoms, and Reese’s butterscotch cookies.

The only problem with making so many cookies, is that I eat a lot of cookies. I usually send them to work with Danny, but it’s the weekend so they’ve just been sitting on the counter looking all delicious!

This morning, I am going to BodyPump at the gym. I am hoping that the instructor is doing the new release because I’m having a little bit of trouble with the timing and thought it would be helpful to do it while someone else was teaching.

Later this afternoon, we’re going to my best friend’s son’s birthday party.

Have a great day!

  • How many cars have you owned?
  • Any plans for today?
  • What do you own a lot of? I own a lot of workout clothes, water bottles, coffee mugs, and shoes.

Snow Sucks

When I woke up this morning, there was snow on the ground. My son was very happy. I wasn’t.

I freakin’ hate the snow. If I never saw another snowflake in my life, I would be perfectly happy. But everyone says oh, you would miss the snow, especially on Christmas. No, I would not miss the snow. That’s what hate means – it means I would be overjoyed if it never snowed again.

If it was 80 degrees and sunny on Christmas day – I would be in heaven. I would not miss the snow. It’s cold, and turns into yucky gray slush, and it’s a pain to drive in.

And snow on the ground means that I have to wear my boots to the gym, and I usually end up forgetting my gym shoes and have to go back home to get them.

Moving on…I wasn’t very hungry this morning. I’m usually not very hungry when I wake up, which is why I end up eating so much in the evening. But I had a pear on the way to the gym, and I brought a thinkThin white chocolate raspberry bar for after my workout.

Workout – 3.3 miles treadmill, 16 minutes stationary bike, 10 minutes stretching

At the gym, I ran/walked on the treadmill for 3.3 miles. My calves are sore from that Step&Sculpt class that I took. But then again, I feel like my calves are always sore. I did 16 minutes on the stationary bike – 16 minutes because I wanted to hit 100 calories burned, then I finished up with 10 minutes of stretching.

After the gym, I stopped at Ulta to pick up some free shampoo. Ulta has a rewards program where you earn points when you make a purchase. A few times a year, you get a reward certificate and get to pick out an item that corresponds with your reward level. If you shop at Ulta a lot, it’s an awesome program.

Free shampoo sounds good to me.

Lunch

Lunch today was leftovers from Olive Garden last night. I think that’s only the third time in my life that I have been to Olive Garden. It’s good, but a little expensive for a casual dinner for a family of four. Luckily, the 10k that I did in October gave out free Olive Garden kid’s meal in the race goody bag, so that knocked $10 off the bill.

I had the rest of my lasagna rollata al forno and two breadsticks. I probably had 47 breadsticks last night. Darn those free refill breadsticks. By the time I actually got my dinner, I was pretty full.

I’m so glad that it’s Friday – it’s been a long week. Tonight we have plans to RELAX! We’re finally going to finish decorating the Christmas tree, watch Elf, and maybe go look at Christmas lights. We have one neighborhood nearby where at least 30 houses decorate with Disney cut-outs – 101 Dalmatians, Monsters Inc., Cinderella, Toy Story, Mickey Mouse, and more. It’s actually really neat that the whole neighborhood does it, and we have fun going to see them every year.

Do you enjoy going out to look at Christmas lights? I love it!
