Yesterday’s Evening Workout

  • Spin Class – 60 minutes

Last night was the last Spin class of the session. I didn’t sign up again because the timing is just too hard.

My gym recently set up a giving tree in the lobby.

While we were there last night, I let the kids both pick out an ornament with a child to buy a present for. Jacob picked out a boy, ages 10-12 and Jaden picked out a boy, ages 0-2.

For the past few years, we have participated in the Salvation Army Giving Tree through JC Penney. This year we’re doing the giving tree at the gym, which is also the park district. It’s nice because it’s local, the kids could physically pick out a tag for another child, and the gifts don’t have to be shipped out like they do with the Salvation Army.

I think this helps my children to understand that not every kid has toys and clothes and food. We talk about the importance of helping others, and the kids spend time picking out the perfect toy. With the Salvation Army, we also bought things like coats, shoes, socks, etc. With the park district it only includes a toy.

Even if you can’t help moneywise, there are tons of ways to volunteer your time.

Breakfast

Yesterday in the mail, I got a mini box of Bear Naked cereal from Target. I had that for breakfast this morning with some almond milk.

I’ve had the Bear Naked cereals before and I love them, I just haven’t had them lately. I should start buying it again! But my problem with cereal is that I have a hard time stopping with one bowl. I love cereal.

This morning, Jaden and I exercised one of our greatest rights as American citizens – we voted.

Okay, I voted, but Jaden came along to see how it was all done. The lady at the polling place gave Jaden an “I voted” sticker, and he’s very excited to show his teacher. He’s also having a “secret” vote for the President at school today, so he’s also very excited about that.

After I voted, Jaden asked me when they were going to pick the name of the President out of a box. He thought it was like a raffle. I explained to him that’s not quite how it works, but maybe we should try that one year ;)

I dropped Jaden off at school and went to the gym. My gym is also a local polling place so while the gym was dead, the building was crowded.

Speaking of voting, the votes on the cinnamon and sugar Pringles are in.

 

 

Danny, Jaden, and I liked them. Jacob didn’t like them. And at press time, my sister-in-law was undecided. :)

They are still salty tasting like a Pringle, but with a slightly sweet flavor. I was surprised they were salty and expected more sweetness, but I thought they were actually good.

Today’s Workout

  • 1 mile – treadmill
  • Butts and Guts Class – 60 minutes

Total Pile on the Miles: 9.63 miles

I got to the gym late this morning because of voting, so I only had time to do one mile on the treadmill before Butts and Guts class. Every mile counts!

That’s Sick

The good news is that I feel slightly better this morning. I don’t have mucus clogging up my nose and head anymore.

The bad news is that snot ran down my face all night long (I’m classy, I know). And I had to wake up every hour to run and grab a tissue. Yeah, I should have just kept tissue next to the bed. That would be the smart thing to do. But I didn’t. Enough said.

Have you tried the cool touch Kleenex yet? It’s pretty amazing – it’s cold when you blow your nose and feels just delightful. This Kleenex technology is amazing, I tell ya.

You are probably wondering how I got sick. Well, I’ll tell you – I got sick because my son was sick and he likes to share his germs. Maybe you’re wondering how he got sick. I’ll tell you that too.

The other day, we were walking to the car, and my son takes his finger and runs it along the dirty nasty car. Then he proceeds to lick his finger.

I was pretty appalled for a moment and then I asked him what would possess him to lick his finger that he just put into dirt, dust, and probably bird poop.

I wanted to see what it tasted like.

What?! You seriously had the urge to find out what dirty car tastes like?! I’ll tell you – it tastes like crap.

And that, my friends, is probably why my son is sick all the time.

I lick cars because I am an ANIMAL

 

Moving on…

Danny is going to the gym without me today. I told him that wasn’t very nice. Then he reminded me that I’m going to Body Pump. Oh yeah. Here’s to hoping that I don’t have snot running down my face while I’m doing those squats.

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning was seventeen a couple of bowls of Bear Naked honey almond cereal. I have already made a considerable dent in this box of cereal…and I just bought it yesterday. Hey, at least it wasn’t Cocoa Puffs. Those things would have been gone in 5.6 seconds flat.

I’m bringing an Odwalla vanilla protein drink for after Body Pump. The grocery store was out of the chocolate, so I had to suck it up and buy vanilla.

We’ll see how it compares to the chocolate.

Are you a chocolate fan or a vanilla fan? I am a chocolate fan all the way! Team Chocolate!

P.S. I had Danny proofread this before I posted it, and he said that I should be embarrassed that I am telling the world that I had snot running down my face. I’m not.

Gym, Bagel, Chirtsmas Decorations

Workout:

  • 30 minutes treadmill
  • 20 minutes strength training
  • 5 minutes stretching

I actually slept in until 9 am this morning! That rarely happens, especially with a four-year-old who believes that just because the sun is out, the whole family should be up.

I woke up, had some coffee & a bagelwich, and read the paper. Okay, I just read the ads so I can see what the sales are tomorrow. Santa Claus is coming soon, you know.

Danny took the kids to karate and while he was there, I called my dad and begged asked him to watch the kids so that Danny and I could go to the gym for about an hour. Luckily, my dad only lives five minutes from the gym and said that he’d watch the kids.

So, Danny and I headed to the gym.

Our gym is right next to Ulta, which isn’t always good for my wallet. And in the next parking lot over from the gym is Target, which is even worse on my wallet.

Let’s get our fitness on!

Aren’t we cute?

At the gym, I ran/walked for 30 minutes on the treadmill. My poor calves are still sore. Then I did some biceps curls, push-ups, and single-leg biceps curls. I finished with about five minutes of stretching and even foam rolled my calves for a minute or two.

I know that I should stretch longer, but I get really bored stretching sometimes. My goal is to spend a little more time stretching so that my calves aren’t always so sore.

After our workout, I had some of the trail mix that Bear Naked was nice enough to send me.

The flavor is pecan apple flax. It has raisins, pecans, sunflower seeds, apple slices, and whole grain flax granola. The first thing I did was chuck the raisins out the window. I am not a raisin fan at all, but I love dried cranberries.

The rest of the trail mix was good. I liked the big chucks of granola the best. I was mean and didn’t even share any with Danny. I’m keeping the rest of the bag in my gym bag so that I can always have a snack in case I forget to pack something.

I planned on making a stuffed pepper when I got home, but my gym was giving out free bagels today. I grabbed two, planning on giving them to the kids, but they didn’t want them. So I ate one. So, my stuffed pepper plans are on hold until tomorrow.

You really shouldn’t pass up free bagels. And you really shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to take a self-pic of your sweaty self eating the bagel.

Right now, Danny is in our crawl space taking out all of our Christmas decorations! Yay – I love Christmas decorations. Danny wanted to wait until after Thanksgiving to get them out, but we made a deal that if anyone else on the block put up Christmas decorations that he would take ours out too.

And last week, someone’s outside decorations went up! So, out come our decorations. And while he was getting them out, Danny found an Elvis cassette tape, unopened. The kid’s had no idea what it was. Ahhh, to be young.

Tonight, we’re going to my brother and sister-in-law’s house for enchiladas and card playing.

Cookies Make Granola Better

Waking up early sure has its advantages. I managed to get my son an allergy shot, visit the girls at the gym, go to Ulta, and go to JC Penney all by 10:30 am. Maybe I should try that waking up before the sun thing more often.

Nah.

I packed a few snacks to bring since we’d be out most of the morning. My son and I shared a Honeycrisp apple. Is that gross or not? Is it normal to share an apple with someone? Like you take one bite, I’ll take one bite.

Lunch

I bet you can’t guess what I had for lunch today. Ha! If you guessed a stuffed pepper, you are totally wrong! I had a stuffed pepper with feta. Okay, okay – you were right. I did have a stuffed pepper. But in my defense, I did say that I was probably going to eat one everyday for months to come.

I also had carrots and pretzel sticks with hummus.

 

Bear Naked and Dr. Sears Family Essentials recently sent me a few goodies to try. Yummm….goodies. And after lunch I was craving something sweet, as usual, and since I have pretty much depleted my kid’s Halloween candy supply, I broke open these babies:

Bear Naked Soft-Baked Granola Cookies in Double Chocolate. Anything with the words “double chocolate” in it is worth trying. These cookies are so good – chocolatey and soft. And they have just enough granola in them that it isn’t overpowering. My son loved them and actually stole the rest of mine. Listen kid, do not steal your mom’s chocolate.

And how cute is this packaging:

It has a spot to write your name. And you better believe that I wrote my name on them. Writing my name makes them all mine, right?

I love that they have 10g whole grains and no high fructose corn syrup. And only 130 calories per cookie. Awesomesauce.

My son tried the Dr. Sears Cool Fuel bar in double fudge brownie. I have actually been a fan of Dr. Sears for a few years. I used to order my kid’s the fish oil vitamins because I was worried that they weren’t getting enough Omega-3s, you know brain food, because they aren’t big fish eaters.

And guess what these Cool Fuel bars have? That’s right – Omega-3s. And eating a chocolate fudge bar is way better than taking a vitamin.

I actually ate half of this bar because my son wasn’t loving the thick texture too much. I liked it. Chocolate is good. Even though it’s a kid’s bar, I think it would be a great snack for after a workout. Plus, 5 grams of protein.

Doesn’t my hair look dumb in that picture? I think it’s sticking to the velcro on my coat. I’m classy, I know.

The cool part about the Dr. Sears Family Essentials – they will donate a complete meal to a needy child through their Two Healthy Kids initiative. Double awesomesauce.

On today’s agenda I have something really cool – I’m going roller skating! Every few months my son’s school has a roller skating party. When my son was younger, he used to like to skate with me, but now that he’s older I just embarrass him.

Well, now my younger son is old enough to skate, so I can skate with him. And I am talking about old school roller skates, like with the orange laces. No Rollerblades for me. And I still can’t figure out why my son doesn’t think I’m cool.
