Upper Body and Ab Workouts

Good afternoon!

I hope you all had a great weekend. Today has been pretty busy, and I am finally getting a chance to sit down at the computer.

I went to the gym this morning and did an upper body workout and an ab workout.

It felt good to get back to the gym today. I have physical therapy tonight, and I hope that my hip is healing. It feels better than it used too but I worry because it still hurts, just not all the time anymore.

I have a follow-up appointment with the sports doctor on Wednesday to see how I am progressing.


After overindulging a bit this weekend, I got back to eating healthy today. I think I have had almost the same thing for lunch for the past two weeks.

Egg whites, a whole wheat English muffin with almond butter (it’s starting to grow on me), and watermelon. As boring as it is, I tend to eat the exact same thing for breakfast and lunch for extended periods of time, and change it up with dinner. This also helps me stick to eating healthy.

We’re leaving for the Dells soon, so the next few days are going to be busy getting stuff done, packing, going to the doctor, etc. I am really looking forward to the trip!

Ab Workout

August 1st?! Can you believe that it’s August 1st already? Rabbit, rabbit :)  The summer has just been flying by, and now it’s almost over.

August will be a busy month – we’re going to the Dells later this month, the kids and I have a few doctor appointments lined up, the kids go back to school…I was supposed to run two races, but now I’m not :( Oh well, I’ll just find other stuff to keep me busy.

Here’s a few of my favorite posts from July:


Breakfast this morning was a fun twist on my usual hot oatmeal or overnight oats. I cooked oats with water and almond milk. To the top of the oats I added plain Greek yogurt with a drizzle of honey for sweetness, strawberries, and almonds.


It was delicious! This will definitely be on my breakfast rotation. The hot oatmeal and the cold creamy yogurt was the perfect combo!


I went to the gym this morning to do an ab workout.

Here’s the workout I did:

After completing the first set of bicycle crunches, I realized they probably weren’t the greatest for my hip, so I omitted them the second time through.

I finished up with the quad stretch from my physical therapist.


Lunch was pretty simple today – egg whites, carrots sticks, and an English muffin with almond butter.


The Jif almond butter is just okay. It’s no secret that I prefer peanut butter to almond butter but I’ve had almond butters that I like better than the Jif. It’s funny that I love peanut butter so much because peanuts are my least favorite nut. Almonds and cashews are my favorite nuts but I’m not a huge fan of almond butter.

After lunch, we went to pick up my niece. Isn’t it so adorable that she won’t leave the house without her purse?!

30 Minute Ab Workout

Well, my hip is back to hurting a bit. Not too terrible since I have been taking it easy lately. This was to be expected though because the doctor said that once the numbing medication wore off, it would take 2-3 days for the cortisone to start working.

Hopefully, it’ll start feeling better tomorrow because I do not want to get an MRI.

Today’s Workout

I did an upper body workout yesterday, so I decided to do a 30 minute ab workout this morning.

My workout looked like this:

If you’re not familiar with all these exercises, click on the name to learn more: oblique crunches, Russian twists, reverse crunches, and Pilates 100.

After my ab workout, I did about 20 minutes of hip, quad, and glute stretches.

I wore my heart rate monitor just to see how many calories I burned during an ab workout.

Not a lot – that was abs and stretching. I can’t wait to get back to my regular workouts!

After the gym, the kids and I stopped at the store.

I have been looking for Larabar Alt bars for awhile and my grocery store finally got them!

I am excited to try out the pumpkin pie flavor. It makes me excite for the fall time! And apparently, the grocery store is also excited for fall because they’re already putting out Halloween magazines!

Fall is my all-time favorite season, but I like to enjoy summer first!


Lunch this afternoon was an English muffin with pb, pineapple Greek yogurt topped with some granola, and some watermelon. I have been loving English muffins with pb lately – I think I have eaten one everyday for the past week.

Tonight, my stepmom, sister-in-law, and grandma are coming over for dinner and a movie night. I rented Identity Thief. It looks funny and I love Melissa McCarthy! (I’ve loved her ever since Gilmore Girls). Did you know she’s Jenny McCarthy’s cousin?!

Abs and Allergies

Could my calves be anymore tight and painful? No. The answer is no.

I think I kind of overdid it with my workouts on Monday and now my calves are paying the price. I finally thought of a way to describe it. You know when you get a Charley horse or leg cramp and your whole leg just tightens up and it so incredibly painful? That’s what my calves feel like. Maybe not quite as painful, but very tight and painful.

So, last night I foam rolled and used the massage stick. I couldn’t take it anymore, so I put on my calf sleeves and went to sleep. I don’t know if it worked, but it helped me feel better. I took them off about halfway through the night and used a heating pad this morning. I am going to foam roll again and hopefully they’ll start feeling better soon.

They haven’t been this bad since I went to physical therapy last year. I am just going to try and take it easy.

Today’s Workout

  • Stability Ball Ab Workout – 15 minutes
  • BodyPump – 60 minutes

I started my workout off with a quick ab workout this morning before heading to BodyPump.

Some of the ab exercises I did on the stability ball:

  • crunches
  • crunch with opposite knee to elbow
  • Oblique twist
  • Stability ball V- pass
  • Ab roll in
  • Butt lifts
  • Ball roll out
  • Plank
  • Plank with mountain climbers
  • Back extension

During BodyPump, I made sure to take it easy on the squat and lunge tracks so my calves wouldn’t get worse, and I wore my calf sleeves.

Post workout snack was a cookie dough Quest bar.

Could my hair be anymore crazy?

I had a few errands to run after the gym and by the time I got home, I was starving so I threw together some peanut butter French toast. I used PB2 in place of regular peanut butter.


This is totally random, but Jaden wore his cat shirt today.


Danny and Jaden are allergic to cats so we can’t ever have a cat. I always had cats and dogs growing up. Jaden loves animals but since he’s allergic I bought him a cat t-shirt instead. Not exactly the same thing as having a cat…but he loves it.

We did have a dog for a long time but he passed away last year, and Jaden still talks about him. I would love to get another dog, but I worry about Jaden’s allergies. Maybe one day…
