Veggie Omelet

Veggie Omelet

Last night for dinner, I made a veggie omelet.

I used three eggs whites – a little bit of a yolk got in there which is why the eggs look slightly yellow. Then, I added red pepper, green pepper, red onion, pepper, and a little bit of cheddar cheese. What’s an omelet without cheese?!

I cooked it on the stove until the eggs were set and then I put it under the broiler in the oven for 2-3 minutes. I was looking online at healthy recipes and saw a recipe that put the omelet under the broiler, so I decided to try it out.

I don’t think it made a huge difference taste wise, but the cheese sure was perfectly melted.

Today’s Workout

  • Practiced BodyPump at home
  • Full body workout and stretching - approx. 45 minutes

I finally went to the gym this morning. My right leg still hurts and I have a bit of a cold, so I tried to take it easy.

I did a bull body workout, completing one set of 15 reps of each exercise. Here are a few of the exercises I did:

  • ball squats on the wall
  • tube walking side to side
  • one leg biceps curls
  • stability ball triceps extensions
  • planks
  • sit-ups with medicine ball
  • lateral shoulder raises
  • stability ball chest presses

It was a good workout even though I wasn’t feeling the best.

Yesterday afternoon, I had a Greek yogurt chocolate Zone Perfect bar.

I think I got this bar in one of my Goodies boxes. I put off eating it because I wasn’t sure if I would like it. Well, I shouldn’t have put it off for so long because that bar was delicious! It kind of reminding me of eating an Oreo. It’s definitely a bar that I would purchase again.

I’m off to practice BodyPump a little bit more! I have to be ready to film my video soon and the clock is ticking!!

One of Those Days

Good afternoon! Today has been kind of a crazy day and I finally got a chance to sit down!

Today’s Workout

  • Approx. 2.5 miles treadmill (4:2 ratio)
  • Practiced squat and triceps BodyPump tracks - approx. 15 min.
  • Stretching/Foam rolling – 15 min.

I am so sore from BodyPump yesterday that running was hard today. Even though I felt like I could run more, I didn’t want to push it because my hip hurts today.

Even though I was sore, I practiced the squat and triceps tracks. I either use no weight or light weight just so I can get the moves down.

Last night Jaden was complaining about a lot of ear pain…again. I think he gets an ear infection every six months.

So, I took him to the doctor this afternoon and sure enough, he has a double ear infection and it’s affecting his hearing. Poor Jaden. He always has some kind of problem. His allergies are acting up so he is also wheezing.

I stopped at the pharmacy to get his antibiotic and they didn’t have it in stock. They called another pharmacy who didn’t have it in stock either. Finally, we were able to find a pharmacy that had the antibiotic in stock. What a pain.

The doctor also wants Jaden to get a hearing test in 6 weeks to see if all his ear infections are affecting his hearing.

We finally made it home and Jaden had a package waiting for him on the front porch – a kid’s Goodie’s box.

I get the regular Goodies box and a couple of months ago, I signed the kids up to get the kid’s version. It’s like a little present every month and it’s only $7.

This box had some treats, chocolate milk, kettle corn, and organic kid’s pasta sauce.

I ate some of the kettle corn with my lunch :)

Sugar

Good morning!

My Fitness Pal

Using the My Fitness Pal app for only one day has actually been an eye opening experience for me. I used to only count calories and protein, but this app counts a lot more – calories, protein, fats, cholesterol, sodium, potassium, fiber, carbs, sugars, vitamins, etc.

After eating lunch, I thought I was doing a pretty good job eating healthy so far…until I looked at my daily summary.

I figured my sugar amount was great for the day because I didn’t eat anything too sweet, but I was wrong. I was already 13 grams over my sugar consumption for the day! And it was only lunch time!

According to My Fitness Pal I should only be eating 35 grams of sugar for the day. I was up to 48 grams.  So, I went back to my food list to see what the culprit was…

It was the Larabar! My beloved Larabars! No!!!

The sugar, of course, came from a lot of the foods but the main one was the LaraBar with 19 grams of sugar (even my carrots had a good amount of sugar). Maybe it’s time to find a new bar?! Greek yogurt also has a lot of sugar too – some flavors have more than the Larabar.

And here I was thinking my sugar consumption for the day was just fine. It really opens your eyes to what you’re actually eating.

At Whole Foods over the weekend, I bought four Larabars and one thinkThin bar. The thinkThin bar has about the same about of calories as a LaraBar but it has 20 grams of protein and no sugar. I’ll probably finish the Larabars that I have and then stick to the thinkThin bars.

It’s amazing how fast the grams of sugar start adding up – 5 grams in my coffee creamer, 9 grams in my cereal, 5 grams in carrots sticks, 17 grams in an apple, 19 grams in Greek yogurt.

By the end of the day, I consumed 85 grams of sugar when I should only be consuming 35 grams. I was just really surprised how much sugar I was actually eating, and I’m going to work on eating less sugar.

Food and nutrition is always something that has interested me and I think I would like to eventually get a Fitness Nutrition Specialist certification to go along with my personal training certification.

Today’s Workout

  • 12 minutes elliptical
  • Stretching
  • Walking lunges, one leg bridges, bridges
  • Practiced BodyPump squat track

Since Danny and I have our Row Circuit class tonight, I basically just stuck with my stretches from physical therapy at the gym this morning. I also finally got the squat track memorized. I was able to do the whole thing at the gym this morning without any notes. Now on to the triceps track!

I don’t mind the triceps dips and overhead extensions but those triceps push-ups are killer! I really need to work on those.

When I Don’t Workout, I Buy Food

Good afternoon!

Yesterday

Yesterday afternoon, I took the kids to the park.

I think it counts as exercise since it’s about a half hour walk to and from the park…especially when you go the long way which the kids didn’t appreciate since it was hot outside.

Today

I didn’t go to the gym this morning, so the kids and I went to Target…you know, the happiest place on Earth. I haven’t been to Target lately so I think I was starting to have Target withdraws.

I got Jacob a backpack for school, but I’m still waiting for the kid’s back-to-school supply lists to come in the mail. Obviously, it’s way too much effort for me to go to the school’s website and just print the lists out.

The first thing I saw when walked into Target was this awesome sweater (real or not real?)

Who doesn’t love a pink sweater with a hedgehog on it?! Sadly, the sweater didn’t come home with me.

I did get a few other things that I thought I’d share. Great, another food post. It seems like when I don’t workout out as often, I focus more on food.

First, I got my favorite fish – salmon belle mar. So. Good.

We’re going to Wisconsin Dells soon just like we did last year, so I got a couple of food items to bring with. I found this new Special K oatmeal. It’s a multi-grain blend with quinoa.

I got the maple brown sugar crunch flavor. There was also a few other flavors to chose from. These will be great to bring to the resort for breakfast – a lot healthier, easier, and faster than going out to breakfast. I also like these because they have less calories that the Quaker oatmeal cups.

One container of oatmeal has 190 calories, 8 grams of protein, and 5 grams of fiber.

Next, I got a Go Picnic hummus and crackers ready-to-eat-meal. These are great for the car or at the pool because they don’t have to refrigerated.

I also picked up a Lara ALT bar, which I ate as soon as we left the store. I was hungry.

I really like the ALT bars because they taste good and have a lot of protein, but I prefer the texture of the regular Larabars better. The ALT bars are a lot thicker and denser and not as soft.

Finally, I bought some flip flops for the Dells. A lot of the flip flops and sandals were on clearance for $4.48. Who doesn’t love $4.48 sandals?!

Danny and I have plans to go to the gym tonight after dinner. I’m either going to try out some of the weight machine or go to yoga, it depends how busy the gym. My gym is on the smaller side, so it gets really crowded at night – another reason I prefer going in the morning!

Grilled Pizza And Salmon Salad

Good afternoon!

I forgot to mention that when I had my family over the other day, we cooked out on the grill. Since, I don’t eat burgers or hotdogs, I decided to try grilling a pizza (well, actually Danny grilled it. I cook, he grills).

I bought my favorite pizza - the Amy’s Margherita frozen pizza.

My grocery store used to sell the individual sized pizza, but they stopped carrying them, so now I rarely get to eat it because I don’t want to buy the full-sized pizza just for myself.

The pizza was really good grilled. It tasted pretty much the same as cooking it in the oven, but it was crispier. I love crispy pizza so it was perfect.

My hip has been feeling really good the past couple of days which I am very happy about. I am really hoping that it continues feeling good and that I am on my way to recovery. I didn’t go to the gym this morning because Jaden had an allergy doctor appointment.

The appointment took two hours and I was getting crazy sitting in that tiny doctor’s room for so long. First, the doctor was running late and all the appointments were backed up, then they had Jaden do a couple of breathing tests so that took awhile. I was so happy when we finally left.

Lunch

We were starving when we got home, so I made lunch. I had some salmon to use up, so I cooked it in a grill pan and added it to the top of my salad.

Yum!

Yesterday

Yesterday afternoon, I went on a tour of my new gym. I am so excited for it to open. It’s going to be such a huge difference from the gym now. The kid’s room even has a rock climbing wall.

I am excited for such a large fitness area, tons of new classes, and a pool!

Ab Workout

August 1st?! Can you believe that it’s August 1st already? Rabbit, rabbit :)  The summer has just been flying by, and now it’s almost over.

August will be a busy month – we’re going to the Dells later this month, the kids and I have a few doctor appointments lined up, the kids go back to school…I was supposed to run two races, but now I’m not :( Oh well, I’ll just find other stuff to keep me busy.

Here’s a few of my favorite posts from July:

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning was a fun twist on my usual hot oatmeal or overnight oats. I cooked oats with water and almond milk. To the top of the oats I added plain Greek yogurt with a drizzle of honey for sweetness, strawberries, and almonds.

It was delicious! This will definitely be on my breakfast rotation. The hot oatmeal and the cold creamy yogurt was the perfect combo!

Workout

I went to the gym this morning to do an ab workout.

Here’s the workout I did:

After completing the first set of bicycle crunches, I realized they probably weren’t the greatest for my hip, so I omitted them the second time through.

I finished up with the quad stretch from my physical therapist.

Lunch

Lunch was pretty simple today – egg whites, carrots sticks, and an English muffin with almond butter.

The Jif almond butter is just okay. It’s no secret that I prefer peanut butter to almond butter but I’ve had almond butters that I like better than the Jif. It’s funny that I love peanut butter so much because peanuts are my least favorite nut. Almonds and cashews are my favorite nuts but I’m not a huge fan of almond butter.

After lunch, we went to pick up my niece. Isn’t it so adorable that she won’t leave the house without her purse?!

Winners!

The Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup!

It was a very intense last two minutes of the game last night!

And it was pretty cool that they won the Cup on my mom’s birthday :)

Today, I went to the mall to get my eyebrows waxed and ended up waiting two hours in line for a Blackhawks Champions hat.

All I can say is Danny better love me very much.

Today’s Workout

  • Butts and Guts Class – 30 minutes
  • Elliptical – 20 minutes
  • Stretching – 10 minutes

I got to the gym a little late this morning, so I was only able to make it to half of Buts and Guts class. After class, I spent about 20 minutes on the elliptical. Then I finished up with 10 minutes of stretching.

I run in Mizunos, but I wear Asics for exercise classes.

After the gym, we stopped at the mall and ended up waiting for a Blackhawks hat. By the time we were done, the kids and I were starving. I didn’t plan on being at the mall so long so I didn’t bring any snacks or anything.

We went across the street to Panera to finally eat at about 2 pm.

I usually get the Caesar salad at Panera, but I recently discovered the Fuji apple salad and it’s my new favorite.

Today’s Workout

  • 3.28 miles – HIIT treadmill workout
  • 15 minutes stretching

The kids had swimming lessons at 8:30 am this morning, and then we went right to pick up my niece afterwards. My brother switched his schedule today so that he could be off in time to watch the Blackhawks game.

I wasn’t able to go to BodyPump this morning, so after I picked up my niece, I went to the gym and ran on the treadmill. I did a HIIT workout, and I was so sweaty by the end.

I started out running slowly for half a mile. Then, I alternated between running .25 miles fast and then walking .25 miles for a total of 5 times. The running part was tough and my legs were killing me. I wasn’t sure if I’d make it through the last running interval but I pushed myself and finished strong before cooling down by walking slow for about 5 minutes.

I finished up my workout with 15 minutes of some much needed stretching!

Healthy Eating

I’m trying to get back on track with  my healthy eating and food journaling today, so I went to the grocery store yesterday to stock up on some healthy food. I went through my old food journals and blog recipes to find some food that I haven’t eaten in a while.

Biggest Loser 15k

I did it! I finished the Biggest Loser 15k!

I am so proud of myself because I was able to run the whole entire race without one single walk break. Even on my long runs at home I had to take walk breaks, so I was so happy that I was able to run the whole thing even through the water stations.

About three miles in, a guy ran up next to me. We didn’t speak the whole race, but we ran the whole thing together. If he sped up a little, I made sure that I sped up. If I sped up a little, he made sure to speed up too.

At the finish line I congratulated him on the race and he told me thanks for pacing him. I told him no, thank you for pacing me. Without that random stranger, I probably would have finished a lot slower than I did. So thank you dark-haired guy running next to me.

My official time was 1:44 which I was very happy with. I knew this wouldn’t be a fast race for me, and my average pace was around 11 minutes per mile. I was just so happy to finish without walking. It was a great experience. I loved it. It was tough, but such an accomplishment.

Backing up a bit….

We got to Rockford about 5 pm Friday night and went to the race expo.

The 15k bib pick-up line was super short, but the t-shirt line took quite a while. There was definitely a lot more people that ran the 5k race.

We got to meet Jeff and Francelina from Season 14 of The Biggest Loser.

They both looked amazing, and were very sweet and friendly. They ended up staying at the same hotel that we did.

Dan and Jackie Evens from Season 5 were also there.

We walked around a few booths at the expo and listened to some Q&A and Biggest Loser trivia questions, then we stopped at Noodles and Co. for dinner.

My favorite part was the cookie.

We meet up with my brother and sister-in-law at the hotel and hung out with them for a bit before going to bed.

We woke up around 5:15 am. I ate a maple nut Clif bar right away, and we left the hotel about 5:45 am. The hotel was about 15 minutes from the race so we arrived in plenty of time.

When we got to the race, we met up with my dad and stepmom to give them their bibs.

The 15k started at 7:10 am and off we went. I ended up wearing a different shirt then I planned because the weather was a bit chillier than I anticipated. I also couldn’t fit the Honey Stinger chews in my back pocket, so I used Sports beans instead.

It rained pretty much the whole entire 15k, and I loved it. I think it’s part of the reason I was able to run as well as I did. It was cool and refreshing. It didn’t downpour just a light steady rain for most of the race.

I started out good at about a 10 min/mile pace. I keep that up for about 4-5 miles or so before I had to slow down a bit.

There was four water/Gatorade stations on the course which was perfect. Had it been hot and sunny, I might have needed more water. I ate half of my Sports Beans at mile 4.5 at the water station.

I ran next to Francelina for about 1/2 a mile before she sped up (don’t worry, I caught up to her in the end). :)

The miles surprisingly went by fast. Around mile 5, I got a little burst of energy, but by mile 7-8, my legs were feeling it. I wanted to walk so bad at mile 8, but I knew I had to keep going. I would have been so mad at myself if I had ran all 8 miles and then stopped with only 1.3 miles left to go.

Danny showed up with about 1/2 a mile left and paced me the rest of the race. I was dying, but I crossed the finish line with a smile on my face. My running buddy crossed just after me.

I got my Biggest Loser medal and immediately ate two plums. It was the best food I ever tasted.

Crystal did awesome and finished a little after me. She met a lady on the course who will be running the same Disney half marathon in Florida as her in November. That’s random.

Danny did super duper extra awesome. He won second place in his age group. His time was 1:13. I think he did so awesome, but was a little disappointed because he missed first place by about 30 seconds. He still did great.

I think the race was well organized, had enough water station, enough bathrooms, a clearly marked course with some mile makers, and a lot of volunteers directing people where to go.

The person that I am most proud of is my dad.

My dad and stepmom did the 15k walk.

When I was younger, my dad fell off the roof putting up Christmas decorations and landed on his back. My brother and I were kids and didn’t realize how serious it was and just thought it was funny that Dad fell off the roof (sorry Dad, I still feel bad about that).

He didn’t end up going to the doctor for a long long time. Years, I think. He used to have terrible back pain and finally had to get back surgery because he had shattered discs in his back that had spread everywhere in his back.

What should have been a short surgery ended up taking 7-8 hours because there was so many disc fragments all around his back that had to be dug out. He still even has back pain to this day.

Somewhere along the way, a shattered disc piece hit a nerve and ended up killing a nerve in his foot. He walks with a slight limp because of the dead nerve. I don’t think it’s necessarily painful, it’s maybe more like dead weight. And I’m sure that his good leg has to compensate for the bad leg.

So, of course, he is physically unable to do any kind of high impact exercising like jumping, running, etc. He was the first one that signed up for the 15k walk. And I told myself that if my dad wants to walk a 15k than I can run a 15k.

This was his first official race. He has done walks before, but this is the first time he’s gotten a bib number, crossed a finish line, and got a medal.

I am so proud of you, Dad! You did awesome and are an inspiration to me!

Enough mushy stuff! You just better not fall asleep at my house tonight when we’re celebrating Danny and Paul’s birthday and watching the Blackhawks game!

I am so glad that we’re staying in tonight and ordering pizza. I don’t think my legs can even walk up the stairs. And Danny is mowing the lawn right now. Overachiever.

Skinny Limits Juice Cleanse Review

Good morning! I did it! I finished the three day Skinny Limits juice cleanse.

It was hard, but I feel really good. And surprisingly, after not eating for three days, I don’t crave a big meal or lots of food. I just really want fresh fruit.

After a juice cleanse, it’s recommended that you eat clean and whole foods the next day. Such as fruits, vegetables, almonds, salad, salmon, etc. Skinny Limits recommends that you eat fruit for breakfast followed by some raw nuts.

Since I was craving fruit, that’s exactly what I had.

I also had a 100 calorie pack of almonds. It was amazingly delicious.

And coffee. Oh, how I’ve missed coffee.

I went to the grocery store last night to stock up on some fresh produce.

I don’t usually buy so much pre-cut produce, but I was tired last night and the grocery store was the last place that I wanted to be.

I am excited to eat cherries for the first time this season!

Weight Loss

I didn’t weight myself at home before I started the juice cleanse, but I did get weighed at the doctor’s office about a week before so I know my approximate weight. I weighed myself this morning and I probably lost about 6 or 7 pounds.

Here are some pros and cons based on my experience with the three day Skinny Limits juice cleanse.

Pros

  • Great way to rid the body of toxins and “reset” your body
  • I felt “lighter” and not bloated
  • Weight loss
  • I didn’t feel extremely hungry after the first day
  • Decreased sugar cravings
  • Ability to pick number of days for the juice cleanse (1-10 days) and different cleanses to choose from (standard, green, master, variety, etc.)

I also want to add that I really like the Skinny Limits company. Besides the juices tasting good (with the exception of the beet juice), they were great to work with. All my emails were answered quickly, and I even asked a question via Facebook and got a quick response.

They were great about working with me on ship date. I had to change a couple of times dues to the 5k I was running. The juices  were shipped quickly, arrived on time, and were packaged in ice packs. They also have tons of information on their website if you have questions about doing a juice cleanse.

Skinny Limits is based out of Austin, TX, but they ship worldwide.

Cons

  • The side effects – everyone will experience different side effects. Mine were unpleasant but not unbearable.
  • Constant headache (My aunt pointed out that the headache and fatigue might be because I stopped drinking caffeine (coffee) cold turkey
  • Feeling tired and slightly out of it (if I had to give a business presentation, take a test, or fly an airplane, I would have failed).
  • No running
  • The cost

Doing a juice cleanse isn’t cheap. I recommend finding one that’s local so you don’t have to pay for shipping. A one day Skinny Limits juice cleanse is $49 (without shipping). A three day juice cleanse is $147 (without shipping). So, it’s expensive, but if it’s worth it to you then go for it.

Overall, I thought the three day Skinny Limits juice cleanse was positive. It made me feel better, lighter, and helped with my sugar cravings. It was very tough to do. I managed to stick to the three days drinking only the juice, water, and green tea. I didn’t even eat one little piece of celery, but it was very hard.

Besides the benefits of the juice cleanse, it also showed me that I have the willpower and determination to stick to doing something difficult.
