FRS + A Giveaway

  • The following post is sponsored by FitFluential LLC on behalf of FRS.

Good afternoon!

Even though I’m still injured, I have been slowly adding more exercise into my routine and this includes a lot of BodyPump training, which means that I really need to stay hydrated. I am excited to be trying out a great product that’s a nice change from water, keeps me hydrated, has lots of benefits, and tastes good.

First off, what is FRS? FRS is a energy and endurance product, and the story behind FRS is very interesting – FRS was originally developed by health scientists who found that it is an effective way to deliver sustained energy for chemotherapy patients.

Today, FRS is used by the general population including athletes, nutritionists, and anyone who leads an active lifestyle.

Some of the world’s most elite athletes use FRS for it’s great benefits – pro quarterback Tim Tebow and captain of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team Christie Rampone, as well as over 20 professional sports teams.

The great thing about FRS is that it delivers sustained energy, endurance, and provides immune system support. So, it’s not just for professional athletes, everyone can benefit from FRS products. And it’s available in different products – FRS makes drinks, powders, concentrates, and chews.

FRS Facts:

  • Fueled by Nature Endorsed by Science
  • Packed with healthy antioxidants, vitamins, and green tea extract
  • Features the powerful antioxidant quercetin which is found in the skin of blueberries, grapes, and apples (Quercetin has been shown to provide sustained energy, increased endurance, and immune system support in multiple clinical trials)
  • Contain the highest level and purity of quercetin available
  • Works at the cellular level to help your body produce it’s own natural energy
  • 100% RDI of seven essential vitamins

FRS is that it’s available at many different stores – GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, Kroeger, Whole Foods, Rite Aid, Meijer, Walgreen’s, Teeter Harris, and I’ve actually picked up FRS energy chews from my local Meijer in the past.

The first thing that I noticed about the FRS drinks was that there was a low-cal option. I am the kind of person that rather save my calories for food rather than drinks so I loved that there was a low-cal version of the drink.

I also noticed the wide variety of drink flavors – orange, apricot nectarine, low-cal orange, low-cal wild berry, low-cal peach mango, low-cal citrus pomegranate.

Whenever I see peach mango or orange mango flavored drink that’s always the first one that I grab.

I tired out the low-cal peach mango FRS drink while I was practicing my BodyPump tracks for my upcoming BodyPump certification. I kept doing the back track over and over and over, so this drink was a lifesaver. And it was delicious! It was flavorful and just plain good.

I’m saving the chews for when I am able to run again and I am crossing my fingers that it’ll be soon. The powders are great because I can just throw them in my purse when I leave the house, and I always have water with me to mix up a great drink.

KIWI Shop Back to School Kit

Happy Friday!

I don’t know about you, but I love back to school. And not just because the kids actually go back to school but because I love back-to-school shopping! I think I enjoy picking out school supplies for my kids more than they do.

Even when I was in college, I looked forward to buying notebooks, binders, pens, etc. I also really love school though :)

Recently the KIWI Shop sent me a great back to school kit. It didn’t include basic school supplies, but it had some pretty cool items that you tend to overlook while school shopping.

You can check out the KIWI Shop online here. It’s an awesome online store because they have everything – baby items, back to school supplies, crafts, healthy and beauty products, pet supplies, and even food!

The KIWI Shop is your one stop shop for healthy, organic, and natural products!

The kids were really excited to open up the box from the KIWI Shop and see all the goodies.

First up was a box of alternaVites Kids Multivitamin and Mineral Supplement.

It might not seem like it, but vitamins are a great item for back to school. If your kids are anything like mine, they don’t always eat their fruits and veggies, and I worry about them getting enough of the vitamins they need, this is important for brain development and staying focused at school.

I always give my kids a multivitamin in the morning, and Jaden loved these because you can sprinkle them on your tongue! (You can also add them to foods).

There were also some reusable containers for packing the kid’s lunches.

My kids take a reusable lunch bags to school and I try to also use reusable containers to cut down on the trash that has to be thrown out. Jaden loved the Green Sprouts on Safari Bento Box.

It’s also free of PVC and BPA!

The Wean Green Cubes and ECOlunchbox Solo Cube are great for Jacob’s lunch since he’s in middle school and they don’t look as childish. I love that the Wean Green Cubes are made of glass which are free of BPA, PVC, phthalates, and chemicals.

There was also a bottle of Good For Girls Gel Cleaner Daily Face Wash.

Even though it’s geared towards girls who are little older, it’s great for my niece because it’s free of GMOs, gluten, parabens, sulfates, mineral oils, silicones, phthalates, petrochemicals, propylene glycol, synthetic fragrance, and dyes. Nothing to irate skin!

Jaden’s favorite was the finger paint!

Wee Can Too Tempera Paints are made with real fruit and vegetables powders so they are actually safe if ingested – great for babies and toddlers.

Jaden also loved the Artterro art journal kit.

There was one item that I hope to never ever use…………

LiceLogic Repel Conditioning Spray.

Let’s face it, lice happens. Thankfully, we have been lucky enough to avoid it, but you always get those letters sent home from the nurse that there has been a case of lice in the school or classroom. I hate those letters.

LiceLogic is a natural alternative to lice treatment. It’s natural, non-toxic, pesticide free, and 100% plant based. I just hope that I don’t ever have to use it.

Right now the KIWI Shop is having a great back-to-school giveaway on their website!

KIWI Shop is giving away a complete Back To School Goodie Box filled with premium prizes!

This includes:

  • 1-year supply of alternaVites Kids Multivitamins
  • Artterro Art Dolls Kit, Art Journal, and Bookmaking kit
  • ECOlunchbox Solo Cube, Lunchtray, and Snack Sack
  • Good for you Girls Body Lotion, Body Wash, Gel Cleanser, Face Toner, and Face Moisturizer
  • Green Sprouts On Safari 4-piece Set
  • LiceLogic Repel Kit
  • Wean Green Snack Cube and Wean Cube Set
  • Wee Can Too Veggie Crayons, Grab & Go Finger Paint Set and Tempera Paints

To enter, go to Giveaway ends August 31st.

I received this product for free from the KIWI Shop, May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. I agreed to use this product and post my opinion on my blog. My opinions do not necessarily reflect the opinions of May Media Group LLC or the manufacturer of the product.

OrthoLite Performance Insole Giveaway

Good afternoon!

After yesterday’s cortisone shot, my leg feels a lot better. I could walk up the stairs without wincing and I could sleep without that heavy leg feeling.

Today’s Workout

  • Upper Body Workout
  • Hip/Glute Stretches

The doctor said it was okay if I did upper body workouts, so this morning I went to the fitness room at my gym and did this workout:

It felt good to be able to stretch out my hip!

I know that part of my hip bursitis and quad pain comes from improper running form, which I am always trying to work on. So, recently when OrthoLite offered to send me a pair of their performance insoles to try out, I jumped at the chance.

I put them into my new Mizunos last week and off running I went.

OrthoLite insoles offer the ultimate in comfort, cushioning, and breathability. They solve the most common in-shoe problems by creating a cooler, drier, and healthier foot environment with innovative technology.

I wore these insoles to run a few times last week and I love how they felt. They felt light in my shoes but still offered support.

The OrthoLite insoles provide:

  • Designed to fit all athletic and outdoor shoes or boots
  • Made with open-cell foam, allowing air to circulate around the foot, keeping it cooler and drier inside the shoe
  • Wicks moisture away from your foot leaving your foot cooler and drier
  • Unique spring-back technology ensures that your insole won’t flatten out and it will retain over 95% of its thickness over time
  • Our patented anti-microbial formulation (approved by the EPA and FDA) fights fungus, bacteria and shoe odor
  • Lightweight and fully washable

I really liked that the OrthoLite insoles are affordable. Running shoes cost enough money that it’s nice to find an affordable insole. And $1 from each purchase goes directly to the Level Field Fund, a grant-giving program that strives to bridge the gap in funding to uniquely trained athletes.

You can enter to try out your own pair of OrthoLite insoles! OrthoLite will send a pair of insoles to three winners.

Chicago Half Winner

Happy Friday!

First, let’s start with the winner of the 17th Annual Chicago Half Marathon – Chicago’s Hometown Race giveaway:

Congrats! Please email runeatplay(at)hotmail(dot)com with an email address where you can be reached!

Today’s Workout

  • BodyPump – 50 minutes

I had to cut BodyPump a little bit short today because I had a hair appointment. After yesterday’s five mile run, my quad has really been bothering me, so I tried to take it easy during BodyPump today. I didn’t use any weight on my shoulders for the squat or lunge tracks, and I only did my squats about half way.

I think it’s getting to the point where something might be wrong with it, not just a sore muscle, so I am trying to get an appointment with a sports doctor for Monday. I am supposed to run 10 miles tomorrow, and I’m really not sure how that’s going to happen with my wonderful quad.

After my hair appointment, I came home and made lunch – the first Friday in awhile that we didn’t go to Panera!

I made breakfast for lunch because breakfast is delicious any time of the day.

I had an egg white omelet with red onions, spinach, and feta cheese. I also had an English muffin with peanut butter and fruit.

Later, as a snack, I had some Asian pear crisps.

I actually bought them for Jaden but he didn’t like them. I love them, especially the apple crisps!

Have a great weekend!

  • What did you have for lunch today?
  • Any plans for the weekend?

Yesterday’s Workout

  • 8.23 mile bike ride

Yesterday evening, the kids went to a last-minute park district activity, so that left Danny and me with two unplanned hours of kid-free time. That never happens. We decided to take advantage of the free time and go for a bike ride.

It was our first bike ride ever with just the two of us.

On our bike ride, one of my biggest fears happened – as we were riding down the bike trail, a huge snake slithered out right it front of my bike (I don’t care what Danny says – that snake was huge. And I don’t care what my dad says, it was probably poisonous).

Okay, maybe it wasn’t huge or poisonous, but it really startled me. That is not my idea of fun. I screamed and took off on my bike – that was the fastest and hardest that I have ever rode my bike in my life. Danny slammed on his breaks because my scream scared him and he had to avoid hitting the snake.

As I am pedaling away as fast as I can, I just hear him laughing behind me. Thanks, Danny. That’s sweet. All I can say is thank goodness I hadn’t been running. I would have been even more upset…but I probably would have ran really fast.

After that little fiasco, we rode a total of 8.23 miles. I burned 319 calories this time, a little bit more than my bike ride with Jacob.

Danny and I rode some fast miles, but we also rode some slow miles because my quad would start to hurt. It was a really nice bike ride and I’m glad that I got to ride with my husband.

When we picked the kids up and told them about the snake, the first thing Jaden asked was if I took a picture of it. No, I didn’t stop to take a picture of it – I was busy pedaling as fast as I could and watching my heart rate jump from 110 to 160 in 5 seconds.

I have to share this picture of my niece in my Spibelt because she’s so darn cute. :)

Today’s Workout

  • Butts and Guts Class – 60 minutes

Butts and Guts class was tough today. It was a substitute instructor and she did the whole class on the Bosu ball, which was tough. It was a lot of leg work which killed my already sore legs. I am all for hard workouts, but I have a feeling my legs aren’t going to be too happy tomorrow.

Have a great afternoon!

Designer Whey Sustained Energy Giveaway

Todays’ Workout

  • 3 miles outside, sunny and cooler
  • 10 minutes stretching
  • BodyPump – 60 minutes

When I woke up this morning, my calves finally felt a lot better. I’m sure wearing my compression socks all day yesterday helped.

I woke up at 6 am to run before Danny went to work. I ran three miles.

My right side was sore the whole time – my butt, hip, and quad were not happy. But still, I ran the three miles without too much difficulty. I came home and stretched and foam rolled for about 10 minutes.

After the kids woke up and got ready, I headed back to the gym for BodyPump.

Designer Whey

As a FitFluential Ambassador, I was recently sent a new Designer Whey product to try out – Designer Whey Sustained Energy protein powder.

Flavors: Vanilla Bean and Chocolate Velvet

The Sustained Energy protein powder is formulated with natural whey, soy, and casein proteins to give you healthy and sustained energy during the day to meet the needs of your active demanding life. It doesn’t have caffeine and is stimulant-free.

It does have:

  • 100 calories per serving
  • 5g fiber
  • 16g protein
  • Great taste
  • Excellent source of 19 vitamins and minerals
  • Kosher certified
  • Gluten free

Of course, my first thought was to make a smoothie with the Sustained Energy protein powder. I went through my freezer to see what frozen fruit I had available, and I came across a bag of frozen cherries.

I decided to make a chocolate covered cherry smoothie. When ever smoothies are being made, Jaden needs to help.

The smoothie was super simple to make. All we used was:

  • frozen cherries
  • almond milk
  • Designer Whey Sustained Energy in Chocolate Velvet
  • crushed ice

The smoothie came out delicious. The chocolate velvet protein powder is very flavorful, so the chocolate really stood out in the smoothie. And who doesn’t love chocolate?!

Danny decided to try out the vanilla bean flavor after his workout. While I prefer adding my protein powder to smoothies, Danny likes drinking it mixed into water or milk.

Just add one scoop of protein powder to 5-8 ounces of water, juice, or milk. Danny said that he really liked the vanilla bean flavor and thought it had the perfect vanilla taste.

Designer Whey is offering the chance for some of you to try out their new Sustained Energy protein powder! And the best news?! There will be six winners!

To Enter:

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment below stating whether you would like to try the chocolate or vanilla Sustained Energy protein powder. That’s it!

Chocolate velvet or vanilla bean?

Giveaway open to US residents only. Giveaway ends Friday, June 21, 2013.

Sambazon Juices and Smoothies + A Giveaway!

Last Night’s Workout

  • 4 miles outside, hot

*Note to self: Avoid evening runs at all costs.

Somehow, I went from having the best run of my life to having the worst run. I think it was a mix of running at night, already working out that morning, and the heat that made my run so horrible. I ran at about 6:15 pm last night and it was still 90 degrees outside.

I brought my hand-held water bottle with me, but halfway through my run the water was already hot. My body and legs just didn’t want to cooperate. I had to take a lot of walk breaks. The positive side is that I finished. I ran/walked my 4 miles and didn’t give up.

I could hardly walk into the house when I got home and immediately went to take a cold shower. Then, I made a strawberry peach smoothie for dinner…and chocolate cheerios with almond milk :)

Speaking of post workout food…

I was recently sent some Sambazon juice and smoothie products to try out through the Moms Meet program.

First they sent me this wooden bowl and spoon, which I love!

The bowl is really big and the bigger the bowl, the more cereal you can fit in it! They also sent me some coupons to pick up some Sambazon juices and smoothies to try out.

About Sambazon : I picked out the Acai with blueberry and pomegranate superfood juice blend and the protein acai berry + vanilla superfood smoothie (I love my protein!). The acai juices have powerful antioxidants and healthy omegas. The protein smoothies have 8g – 10g of organic vegan whole food protein per bottle and healthy omegas. The protein smoothie is perfect as a post workout snack. Protein helps build lean muscle.

Sambazon also has energy flavors, supergreens with kale and ginger, and a blended breakfast drink which has grains, chia, and organic/non-GMO verified soymilk.

I just saw on the Sambazon website that they have a energy mocha java superfood smoothie that I must get my hands on!

Not very surprisingly, I drank the acai berry and vanilla protein smoothie first. I thought it was great. It’s not chalky tasty like some protein drinks are, and tasted good. I love the mix of the acai berry and vanilla. The acai with blueberry and pomegranate was also really good. Of course, Jaden needs to help me sample everything :)

Studying the bottle:

Sambazon is offering one lucky winner a prize pack including three free product vouchers and a wooden bowl and spoon!

To Enter:

  • What is your favorite juice or smoothie flavor?

For extra entries (Leave a separate comment for each):

  • Like Sambazon on Facebook.
  • Follow Sambazon on Twitter.
  • Like Run Eat Play on Facebook or Twitter.

The Weekend and A Run

Here’s a few pictures from our weekend.

Saturday was my stepbrother’s prom.

My dad and Jake:

Playing at the park:

…and donuts.

Trampoline dodgeball:

Waiting for Jaden’s caterpillars to turn into butterflies:

We had a busy but fun weekend!

For breakfast this morning, I had egg whites, toast with strawberry preserves, and a clementine.

I don’t think I have had jelly on my toast since I was a kid. Usually, I top my toast with peanut butter, but I got a little crazy with the peanut butter last week and ate a ton of it, so I am trying to stay away from it for now. Peanut butter is one of those foods that I have a hard time controlling how much I eat.

I’m still eating the PB2, but toast is always better with real peanut butter. Or in today’s case, with strawberry preserves.

Today’s Workout

  • .72 miles treadmill, walked
  • BodyPump – 60 minutes
  • 4 miles, outside – very nice but windy

I think Spring has finally arrived in Chicagoland! The weather was beautiful today but a little windy for running.

I ran four miles outside, and I ran on a new path that was about 1/2 paved trail and 1/2 gravel. It was a little hillier than I expected so my miles were slower than I wanted them to be since the hills bother my calves.

I was happy to complete four miles though!

I’m off to pick up my niece! Have a great afternoon!

Last day to enter the Quest Bar Giveaway! I’ll be posting the winners tomorrow!

  • What was the funnest thing you did this weekend?
  • Did you go to prom?
  • What do you put on your toast?
  • Where do you run? Trails, road, sidewalk, track, treadmill etc?

QuestBar Protein Bar Giveaway!

Good morning! Happy Friday!

Quest Protein Bars

Since I’m not really a meat eater, I am always looking for new ways to get protein in my diet, especially after a workout, which is why I love trying out different protein bars. I have been seeing QuestBar protein bars a lot on different blogs and decided that I should try them out!

Quest sent me a sample box of bars to try out along with some protein peanut butter cups. Yes, I said protein peanut butter cups. Awesome.

Quest bars are low carb and gluten free.

They have:

  • NO Sugar Alcohols (Original Line)
  • NO Sugar Used
  • No Artificial Sweeteners (All Natural Line)
  • NO Glycerine
  • NO Junk Ingredients
  • NO Soy Protein
  • Gluten Free
  • Only 4-6 Non-Fiber Carbs

I like these bars because they have a lot of protein but not too many calories. The bars have between 160 and 210 calories and 20-21 grams of protein each!

As I’ve said, I am always trying out different protein bars, and these are great for after BodyPump because they have a great amount of protein in them, and they taste good!

I was impressed by all the different flavors of Quest bars.

  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
  • Cinnamon Roll
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter
  • Coconut Cashew
  • Banana Muffin Nut
  • Strawberry Cheesecake
  • Vanilla Almond Crunch
  • Mixed Berry Bliss
  • Peanut Butter and Jelly
  • Peanut Butter Supreme
  • Chocolate Brownie
  • Apple Pie

So far, my favorite is the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. I’ve even heard a rumor that you can heat it up in the microwave for a few seconds for that freshly baked cookie taste.

The first flavor that I tried was the chocolate peanut butter and it was good. The next flavor that I am excited to try is the peanut butter and jelly flavor. How fun is that?!

Rambo Danny liked the protein peanut butter cups.

Post Workout:

What better way to kick off the weekend than with a Quest bar giveaway! QuestBar will generously provide two winners with their very own sample box of Quest protein bars.
