Things I’m Loving

Good afternoon!

One week until Christmas and three days until the kids are off of school for two weeks! Fun times.

Today, I thought I’d talk about a few things that I’m loving lately.

1. Cardio Fusion Class – 1/2 cardio dancing and 1/2 strength training. It’s the best of both worlds! I went to class this morning and I love that it’s a fun class but still a great workout.

2. Vienna Kosher Dill Chips – I love pickles. I love them. So good. I usually buy the Claussen dill sandwich slices, but I saw these Vienna pickles at the store and had to try them out. I bought the jar three days ago and they’re almost gone. Like I said, I love pickles.

007

3. Pop Chips – I also love chips. It seems like I love crunchy and salty snacks. I know that potato chips aren’t the best for me so I have been eating Pop Chips. I’m sure they’re not all that great for me either but at least they’re slightly better regular chips.

019

4. EOS lip balm – actually any lip balm or Chapstick in general. I think I have no less than five lip balms within five feet of me at all times. Danny says I have a problem. I disagree.

029

5. Nick, our elf – This morning Nick made snowmen out of donuts. He sure is a clever elf.

032

6. Baking – I usually prefer cooking to baking because baking requires exact measurements and I like to just throw ingredients together, but lately I have been loving trying out new cookie recipes. I plan on baking all my Christmas cookies these weekend, so I bought some cheap mixing bowls (I only have one big one) and some cookie boxes.

009

7. The Twilight Zone – this is totally random but the Twilight Zone is one of my favorite TV shows. The old black and white episodes, not the newer ones. They come on a lot during Halloween but the SyFy channel randomly plays them so my TV is set up to record them when they’re on. And then I watch them. Because I love them.

034

  • What are you loving lately?

Weekend Fun…and More Cookies

Good morning! Happy Sunday!

I haven’t been around for a couple of days, so this post is going to contain a lot of randomness.

First up, Danny got a car!! It’s¬†Chevy Equinox, and Danny is very happy with it. It’s the first SUV we’ve ever owned and I’m sure the space will come in handy.

Danny’s really good about keeping cars for a long time. I think he’s owned two cars in his life, whereas I’ve owned quite a few.

Friday.

On Friday morning, I taught BodyPump. I brought my new water bottle.

20131213_081415

I saw this water bottle at Dick’s Sporting Goods a few weeks ago and fell in love with it. Hey, the paint splatter reminds me of the 80′s, and I love all things 80′s.¬†But it was around $16 so I didn’t buy it.

I finally decided that I wanted it and went back to buy it. You can never have too many workout clothes or water bottles. Even though I think Danny disagrees with me on this – he’s always trying to throw my water bottles away.

When I went back to buy it, it was gone :( . I tried looking online for it with no success. Then, on Thursday night, I went to TJMaxx to buy something else, and there was my water bottle! And it was only $8! Awesome.

Friday’s BodyPump class went pretty well, and I worked for a little bit afterwards.

Tea

Although coffee is my #1 love, I have been loving tea lately. I found this super cute coffee mug at Michael’s for only $2.99 and I got some Celestial Seasonings Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride from Target to try out.
014

The tea really does taste like a sugar cookie! It’s really good but the peppermint flavor is still my favorite.

Saturday

Saturday morning, Jacob had an eye doctor appointment. Jacob was born 15 weeks early, weighing 1 lb. and 14 oz. He has had a few complications but nothing serious. As a baby, he had eye surgery to correct a condition called exotropia, which basically means that his left eye wants to turn outward rather than straight.

He had eye surgery as a baby to cut the muscle to force the eye to go straight. He wore an eye patch for extended periods during the day to help strengthen that eye. He has very little vision in that eye and the glasses help him to continue to use it.

There is always a possibility that his eye could go back outward again, so we see the eye doctor often for check-ups. It was a routine visit and the doctor said everything is looking good.

Saturday evening, we went with my family to an illumination show at a nearby arboretum.

041
033

All of the trees are lit up with different kinds of lights.

You can change some of the lights by waving your hand over a certain place and you could hug trees to change their lights.
043

It was really neat although it was freezing out and the kids were being a little overly energetic (read: crazy).

Afterwards, we had some hot chocolate…or three, before deciding to go to Red Robin for dinner. Two words – bottomless fries.

Cookies

I made another cookie recipe, oatmeal peanut butter chocolate chip.

001

I have been making so many cookies lately because I like to give them out during the holidays and I wanted to narrow it down to three delicious kinds of cookies. I think I am going to make chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter blossoms, and Reese’s butterscotch cookies.

The only problem with making so many cookies, is that I eat a lot of cookies. I usually send them to work with Danny, but it’s the weekend so they’ve just been sitting on the counter looking all delicious!

This morning, I am going to BodyPump at the gym. I am hoping that the instructor is doing the new release because I’m having a little bit of trouble with the timing and thought it would be helpful to do it while someone else was teaching.

Later this afternoon, we’re going to my best friend’s son’s birthday party.

Have a great day!

  • How many cars have you owned?
  • Any plans for today?
  • What do you own a lot of? I own a lot of workout clothes, water bottles, coffee mugs, and shoes.

Cookies and Cars

Good afternoon!

I wasn’t able to pop in yesterday because we’ve been having a little bit of car trouble and Danny had to work from home, which meant he needed access to the computer all day.

I got a new car a few weeks ago and Danny took my old car. Unfortunately, my old car started having transmission problems and even though it’ll start, pushing the¬†gas pedal does nothing. It just sits there. The car has a lot of miles on it and it can’t be guaranteed that the problem can be fixed, so we’re going to have to get another new(er) car. Again.

We went from zero car payments to two car payments. Not fun, but that’s part of being an adult.

So, we’ve been trying to work out¬†things with having only one car for the week – I need to get to work, Danny needs to get to work, I need to get my niece. It’s been a pain, but hopefully Danny will find a car this weekend.

And a big thanks to my brother for helping out!

So, today¬†I am stuck inside all day without a car (and there’s so much Christmas shopping to do!) I decided to be constructive with my time and bake cookies!!

I found a great¬†blog through Pinterest, Sally’s Baking Addiction, which has tons of delicious cookie recipes. I made the Reese’s Butterscotch Cookies for Thanksgiving and they were one of the best cookies I’ve ever had. The Reese’s Pieces and butterscotch chips really complemented each other.

Last week, I made the chocolate chip cookie recipe and those came out perfect also.

005

I made two different batches – one with dark brown sugar, like the recipe calls for, and one with light brown sugar. Both batches were good, but I prefer the cookies made with the light brown sugar.

Today, I tried out the cake batter chocolate chip cookies.

These came out good, but they were very sweet. Of the three cookie recipes I made, the Reese’s butterscotch were the best hands down.

Yesterday’s Workout

  • Cardio Fusion – 60 minutes

I went to the gym yesterday morning before I worked and took the cardio fusion class. By the time the afternoon rolled around, every part of my right leg ached – my hip, my quad, and my calf. I can tell when I am starting to overdo it so today I plan on taking a rest day because tomorrow I am teaching BodyPump.

Since I am stuck at home, this afternoon will consist of baking, cleaning, and doing crafts with my niece.

I’m going to try and get some Christmas shopping done when Danny gets home, but it’s so cold out that I don’t even want to leave the house.

Have a great afternoon!

Nike Training Club Workout

Good afternoon!

Yesterday’s Workout

  • Treadmill: walk/run – 10 minutes
  • Nike Training Club Workout – 30 minutes

Last night, I rushed to the gym as soon as Danny got home to take the 5:40 pm HIIT class. I got there at exactly 5:40 pm only to find out that the class was on Tuedays, not Mondays. I mixed up my days.

Since I didn’t have a class to go to, I wasn’t sure what to do. I ended up pulling out my phone and using the Nike Training Club app for a great workout.

I started with a 10 minute warm-up on the treadmill and then I completed the following workout (I did change an exercise or two a little bit):

*Each exercise is done for a minute and with weights of your choice.

  • Straight leg kicks
  • Hopping side to side
  • Jogging in place
  • Sumo squat with press
  • Alternating medicine ball push-ups
  • Deadlift
  • Burpee to shoulder press
  • Side plank
  • Plank row
  • Russian twists
  • Modified push-ups
  • Side lunge with rotation
  • Deadlift with alternating row
  • Opposite arm/leg supermans
  • Sumo squat with press
  • Hip bridges with chest press
  • Deadlift
  • Burpee to shoulder press
  • Side plank
  • Plank row
  • Wide leg deadlifts
  • Russian twists
  • Side lunge with rotation
  • Deadlift with alternating rows
  • sumo squat with press
  • Hip bridges with chest press
  • Opposite arm/leg supermans
  • Quad stretch
  • Lower back stretch
  • Hamstring stretch

It was definitely a great workout with no recovery time in between so I worked up quite a sweat!

Tea

Yesterday afternoon, I drank the candy cane lane green tea and it was a lot better than I expected. I felt very festive drinking my peppermint tea out of a cute gingerbread mug.

Isn’t it nice how something as simple as a gingerbread mug can make a person happy.

Today’s Workout

  • Butts and Guts Class – 60 minutes

I worked out at the gym again this morning (my hip is sore!) I took the Butts and Guts class and it was awesome. I was supposed to work at the gym after my workout but plans got changed. I have been missing all my morning workouts, so it was nice to get back to the gym this morning.

This afternoon, I am going to practice BodyPump a little bit and then spend some time wrapping presents.

I still have quite a few Christmas presents to buy and tons to wrap!!

Have a great afternoon!

  • Do you ever use a phone app for workouts?
  • What simple thing makes you happy?

Christmas Tree Weekend

Good afternoon! It’s Monday! How was your weekend?

Saturday

On Saturday morning, we went to cut down our Christmas tree.

My niece loved the horses that take you out to the field.

There wasn’t any snow but it was freezing out! After walking the field for a long time and looking at all the trees, we finally found the perfect Christmas tree.

Danny cut it down with Jacob and my brother’s help and then we headed back for some much need hot chocolate!

We ran into Santa and Rudolph :)

Sunday

On Sunday morning, we went to breakfast with Santa at the fire station. My brother-in-law is a firefighter and organized this year’s breakfast.

I might be wrong, but¬†I don’t think my nephew is too fond of Santa…

The kids had fun eating pancakes, visiting with Santa, and climbing in the fire trucks.

As we were leaving to drive back home, it started snowing….and it continued to snow all day long.

Jaden was so excited to face plant himself in a snow hill on the way to the bus stop this morning.

I was happy to run back inside the house because I don’t like snow or 19 degree weather.

Sunday evening, we spent decorating our tree.

Today

I worked for a couple of hours this morning. I’m going to practice the new BodyPump this afternoon and I am thinking about going to the gym tonight.

I always drink coffee in the mornings, but in the afternoon, I usually have a cup of tea. I get so cold in the afternoons and drinking tea helps warm me up!

I usually drink the Tazo green tea, but I saw Celestial Seasonings Candy Cane Lane green tea at Target this weekend and picked it up to try.

I am looking forward to drinking a cup of it this afternoon.

Elf on the Shelf

Our elf, Nick, has been having fun around our house lately. This morning, he made himself some pancakes.

I’m not sure how he managed to get the pancake mix out and cook the pancakes, but he did :)

Have a wonderful afternoon!

  • What do you top your tree with? A star? An angel?
  • Coffee or tea?

Koss Headphone Giveaway

Hello!

I feel like I have been so busy and haven’t been around much lately!

Yesterday’s Workout

  • Cardio Fit & Tone Class – 60 minutes

I have been working a lot in the mornings lately, so I haven’t been able to keep up with my normal workouts. To get a workout in, I went to the gym last night and took a cardio fit¬†& tone class.

The class was mostly cardio with a few strength training moves, and then ended with some core work.

Whenever¬†I work out at night, it makes me so hungry! The class started at 6:25 pm so I didn’t want to eat dinner before I went, and by the time I got home at 7:45 pm, I was starving!

I work again this morning, so I might go to the gym again tonight. I am still sore from Sunday’s BodyPump and yesterday’s class, so we’ll see how I feel later.

Besides working, I have been trying to get some Christmas shopping done. I feel like the holidays are sneaking up on me this year and it’s going to be a rush to get everything done!

Danny spent the day after Thanksgiving putting up our outdoor Christmas decorations.

We delivered letters to Santa’s mailbox.

Elf on the Shelf made an appearance.

Jaden has been so excited to wake up every morning and find the elf.

Holiday Gift Guide 2013

Happy Monday!

It sure was a long weekend! Back to normal life today and the countdown to Christmas starts!

Since the holidays are quickly approaching, I put together a gift guide for that active person in your life. There are so many great gift ideas that involve health, fitness, and exercising and hopefully you can get some gift ideas!

Holiday Gift Guide

This post is sponsored by FitFluential FFC on behalf of Koss.

  • Heart Rate Monitor

I have the Polar ft7 heart rate monitor and I think it’s great. It measures your heart rate as well as calories burned and lets you know your time in the fat burning and fitness level zones. I bought mine at Sports Authority for around $100, but¬† know they’re a lot cheaper on Amazon.

046

  • Water bottle

Water bottles can be fairly inexpensive and are quite handy. I always bring a water bottle with me to the gym. If you have a runner that you’re buying a gift for, a hand-held water bottle or a water belt make great gifts.

011

The amphipod is great for long distance runners because it clips around your waist and sits on the small of your back. Easy to grab a drink and go!

011

  • Headphones

You can never have too many headphones! Mine are always getting lost, or I forget them, or they break. I love having multiple pairs of headphones. And sport headphones are great for that active person in your life.

I recently received the Koss headphone and I love them. Koss worked with gold medalist, Dara Torres, to create the world’s first pair of headphones for women made by women. They come in either FitBuds or FitClips, and they come with three different size ear buds.

The best part? You get them for only $19.99 this holiday season at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Walgreens, Kmart, or Sears.

  • Shoes

Shoes always come in handy. Always. If you happened to know the correct shoe size, they make a great gift!

IMG_20131125_134347

  • Magazine subscription

There are so many great health and fitness magazine available. I have tons of magazine subscriptions¬†and you can usually find them for a great price. A few ideas – Fitness, Women’s Health, Men’s Health, Self, Runner’s World, Shape.

014

  • Compression socks/sleeves

Compression gear doesn’t only benefit runners. Sometimes I wear compression sleeves while exercising because I know my calves get tight and they help with blood flow. Also great for wearing after exercise and running for recovery.

IMG_20130530_115311

  • A gym bag

Danny got me a gym bag from Athleta for Christmas last year and I love it. If you get a quality gym bag, it can last for a long time.

  • Clothes

Who doesn’t love new workout clothes?! Tanks, shirts, pants, capris, shorts, jackets, hoodies. There’s lots of clothing options. Or make someone their own personalized shirt…

  • ¬†Spi belt

Great for runners – it goes around your waist and fits lots of stuff.

20130520

  • Race entries

A couple of years ago, my dad and stepmom got us an entry for one 5k of our choice. They made a cute little gift card and then we just let them know which 5k we wanted to run and they paid for it.

What is on your holiday list this year? What gifts are you getting for other people?

Turkey Trot 5k and Thanksgiving 2013

It’s the day after Thanksgiving! Did you eat tons of food¬†yesterday?! I did. I love all the Thanksgiving food – so good!

Turkey Trot 5k

Yesterday morning, we woke up early for the turkey trot. I had my alarm set for 6:30 am, but for some reason my body wanted to wake up at 5:45 am.

Danny and Jacob picked up our bibs the day before, so we had everything ready to go. Instead of a typical t-shirt, we got a turkey trot hoodie. Jacob was so excited for his and kept it on for a day and a half.

20131146

The race was about a half hour from our house. We got there early and hung out in the car for awhile because it was cold. Seriously cold. I am not used to running in that kind of weather. My toes and fingers were completely numb.

151

144

We met up with my dad, stepmom, and her two friends who were also running the race. My dad stayed with Jaden while we ran.

Jaden ran the 100 meter kid’s dash and was so happy to get a ribbon!

169

After the kid’s dash, we lined up for the turkey trot. Jacob and I started out running together…that lasted about 3 minutes. It was so congested with people in the beginning and Jacob was going fast. I told him to just weave around the people and go ahead.

He took off way faster than I expected and I couldn’t keep up. I was worried at first since he was alone and tried to keep up with him but he just took off. Danny and my stepmom were also on the course and we talked about what he should do if we got separated, so I just let him go.

I saw Danny at the turn around and told him to come back and get Jacob when he finished.

My running was decent. I started out too fast trying to catch Jacob and it caught up to me in the end and I had to slow¬†down. I just ran at a pace that felt comfortable. It was so different running in the cold and I didn’t warm up as¬†fast as I thought I would.

Finally around the¬†last mile, I started to get warm and took off my gloves and headband. I forgot my¬†Garmin at home and didn’t see any mile markers. I¬†found out¬†later that there were mile marker flags at each mile but I didn’t see¬†any of them, so I had¬†no idea¬†of my mileage the whole race.

I ended up finishing in 33:08. I honestly thought I had been going faster but I guess with the cold weather, I was going slower than I thought. Not my best race, but my first race in the cold weather.

My stepmom and her friends finished a few minutes before me and Jacob finished in 30:53! I was so proud of him for doing so good in his first race!! He did start off too fast and have to walk a few times but he still ran a lot faster than I did!

170

Danny, my speedy husband, finished in 25:01, 5th place for his age group out of 81 people.

I was surprised that they didn’t have water at the finish line. Even though it was cold, I was still thirsty after finishing the race. They did have water and hot cider but it was a ways away from the finish line.

We got some hot apple cider, took a few pictures, and left soon after – it was just too cold to stay outside.

Overall, I really enjoyed the race. It was my first race in the cold weather and although I prefer the warmer weather, I think it’s easier to run in the cold than it is the humidity. And I am so proud of Jacob for running his first 5k!

After the race, we came home, got ready, and headed to my grandparent’s house.

Aren’t these cookie place settings so adorable?!

016

My dad carved the turkey…

026

…and then for some reason, we felt it was necessary to give ourselves bunny ears.

034

The food was delicious and I ate so much – cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, stuffing, rolls, carrots, pumpkin roll, cookies.

It was a wonderful Thanksgiving spent with family and I get to do it all again tonight! My mom and in-laws are coming over so we can celebrate Thanksgiving with them!

Have a wonderful day!

  • How was your Thanksgiving?
  • Did you shop today?
  • Cold weather running or hot weather running?

Winter Wonderland

Happy day before Thanksgiving! Who is excited for tomorrow?! I sure am!

We are running a turkey trot 5k first thing in the morning.

This will be Jacob’s first race and I think he is a little nervous. He has had a cold all week so he is nervous about running while he’s sick. I told him that we’d run together and just go as slow as he needed to go. I really want his first race to be a fun and enjoyable experience.

Tomorrow afternoon, we’re headed to my grandparent’s house for a delicious Thanksgiving dinner. Friday, I have to work for a short time and then we’re having some family over for dinner at our house.

I’m going to the store this afternoon to get groceries for Thanksgiving and for Friday. I’m trying out a new cookie recipe for tomorrow!

Yesterday

Yesterday, we took the kids and my niece to Winter Wonderland at Bass Pro Shops.

They have a bunch of activities and games set up for kids, and even a talking reindeer.

Santa came out while we were there and my niece was so scared of him until he gave her two candy canes – then she liked him a tiny bit more.

Today’s Workout

  • Cardio Fusion Class – 60 minutes

BodyPump is my all time favorite class. I love it because it makes me feel strong, but Zumba/dance classes are the funnest classes that I have ever taken.

I have no rhythm and can’t dance but I love cardio dance classes. They are so fun, don’t feel like a workout, and everyone is so encouraging. For today’s class, we did 30 minutes of cardio dance followed by strength training and stretching. I burned close to 500 calories during the hour long class.

Well, I am off to the grocery store! I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow and if you’re going shopping on Friday – stay safe!

  • What are you looking forward to eating tomorrow?
  • Favorite exercise class?
  • Are you going shopping on Friday? What stores?

Mizuno Wave Rider 17

The following post is sponsored FitFluential LLC on behalf of Mizuno.

Look what came in the mail just in time for me to get my butt running more and for the Turkey Trot 5k!

IMG_20131125_134347

The brand new Mizuno Wave Rider 17s! They are the lightest Wave Rider shoe and are available to the public on December 5th, 2013.

For those of you that don’t know, I have been running in Mizunos for a couple of years but have only worn the Inspire 9s, so I am really excited to try out their new Wave Riders.

I even flew to Georgia this year to film a short commercial for the Mizuno website.

(I’ve only watched that video once because I can’t stand hearing my voice on camera)

I really think that Mizuno’s shoes speak for themselves – they are a¬†quality running shoe for a variety of runners.

The Wave Rider 17 is great for neutral runners but also has support and cushioning for high mileage runners.

Some of the shoes’s features:

  • U4ic midsole delivers lightweight, resilient cushioning.
  • Dissolving upper fit with new DMF execution and soft, supple mesh materials.
  • New sockliner with increased resiliency and responsiveness.
  • SmoothRide Engineer for a Brilliant Run.
  • Lateral Forefoot Sculpting for smooth touchdown and transition.
  • Blown rubber forefront with deep flex grooves for optimal flexibility and cushioning.

Of course, once these shoes came, I had to get to the gym to run.

I laced up my Mizunos and jumped on the treadmill.

IMG_20131126_102344

Today’s Workout

  • 4.2 miles – treadmill

I loved that these shoes felt light, yet still supportive. I always buy my running shoes a size in a half to a full size larger, so I got the Mizuno Wave Rider 17s in a size 11 and they fit perfect.

They were comfortable with lightweight cushioning and I enjoyed running in them – definitely a great shoe to add to your Christmas list! And I can’t wait to wear them for the turkey trot on Thursday!

  • Did you workout¬†today?
  • What kind of running/exercise shoes do you wear?
  • Favorite color shoes to wear?
