Super Bowl Fun and Chili Cook Off

I ate really bad yesterday. Like really bad. Probably not the smartest idea since the DietBet ends this week. But I can’t undo what’s already done, so I am trying not to dwell on it.

I ate to the point of being overfull, and I hate feeling like that and how disappointed I am in myself, but as long as I can get back on track and remember how I felt for possible future overeating than I should be okay.

The DietBet ends in three days on Wednesday, but I have up to 48 hours after that to weigh-in. So, technically I have 5 days until I have to submit my final weight. Keep your fingers crossed for me because I am a little worried. But whether I win or loss, I am happy that I lost a few pounds and finally dropped below the weight that I couldn’t drop below for over 4 months.

Moving on…

Yesterday, we went to my grandparent’s house for the Super Bowl and to spend time with family.

My brother is moving around a little bit better these days…

Of course, there was tons of food.

My stepmom made these meatball bites – they are meatballs and cheese wrapped in a biscuit with marinara sauce to dip them in. Isn’t that such a great idea?

My cousin made stuffed mushrooms.

Me and McCutie FootBall:

We also had our chili cook-off. There was 8 different chilis and 13 people tasting them all. Since, I don’t eat chili, it was my job to give each chili crock pot a number and put all the chili into the cups with the corresponding number. That way no one would know whose was whose chili.

And guess who won?? I did!!!!!!!!

I think my dad was a bit peeved that the non-meater eater of the family came in first place when he has been making chili for years. Sorry dad, that’s the way the cornbread crumbles.

There was a tie for third place, and my dad’s mild chili came in second place. He made two chilis – one spicy and one mild. He only made the mild one for my stepmom to eat, and he was surprised when his mild chili came in second place beating out his spicy chili. I wasn’t.

I honestly don’t think the majority of people like food that are so spicy that you can’t even take a second bite because your mouth still hurts from the first bite. But my dad really likes spicy foods, and I don’t he quite understands that most people prefer food they can taste because their taste buds haven’t been burned off.

I was very happy that my chili came in first place, and honestly I was quite shocked, but I’m glad that people enjoyed it. Everyone did such a wonderful job making their chili, and I hear that they all tasted good, each one being very unique.

I also want to say that I am very proud of Danny for only having one alcoholic drink yesterday. I thought he’d have more. Maybe he’s waiting until after the Diet Bet is over :)

Today’s Workout

  • BodyPump – 60 minutes
  • Stationary bike – 12 minutes

Well, Danny and I had 43 workouts last week for the Fantasy Fitness Challenge. It was a hard week. Danny can only workout in the fitness center, so he can go once in the morning and once in the evening and that’s really it. So, the rest of the workouts fall on my shoulders which is hard.

The team we were up against last week had 65 workouts. In one week. I thought Danny and I did awesome with 43 workouts, and I worked my butt off to get the gym every free second I had. But I cannot compete with 65 workouts.

It’s not worth being injured or spending every free second I have in the gym. Danny and I currently in 4th place, and there is no way that we can come first at this point, so I plan just to go back to my normal morning workouts. We gave it our best shot. I’m not giving up, and will continue to workout, but I can’t keep up with that many workouts a week.

My Plan

With a only a few more days until the final weigh-in, I plan to be as healthy a I can be this week. I plan on eating tons of fruits and veggies, fish, Greek yogurt, eggs, and whole grains. I am going to try to stay away from processed food, avoid sugar, drink tons of water, and limit my peanut butter intake.

Peanut butter is one of those foods that I love but have a hard time limiting. I usually measure out one tablespoon, but that tablespoon turns into a heaping tablespoon or a few extra swipes of peanut butter right into my mouth. And peanut butter calories add up fast which is why I am really going to try to limit my peanut butter intake this week.

Hopefully, I’ll be down my 4% by Friday, but if not, no big deal. I am happy with where I am, and I have lost 32 pounds since April 2012, and I am proud of that!

Starting off my good week of eating was a smoothie and some blueberries for lunch!

Have a great afternoon!

  • What are you proud of?

Walking at a Decline

Yesterday’s Workout

  • 10 minutes stretching
  • 1.15 miles treadmill, walked slow
  • Beginner Step Class – 30 minutes
  • Stationary Bike – 15 minutes

I worked out a lot yesterday, but they weren’t high intensity workouts. I walked slowly on the treadmill because my quad still hurts. I made sure to stretch, and I didn’t use any risers in Step class last night.

Next week, Danny and I will get a little break from working out so much because the team were up against for the Fantasy Fitness Challenge doesn’t workout as quite as much as we do. It’ll be a nice break. I’ll still workout out in the mornings, just probably not every night also like I am now.

Dinner

For dinner last night, I had salmon, brussels sprouts, and Honeycrisp apple slices.

I have been buying the No Name salmon lately because they’re easy to make when I’m in a hurry, and they’re really good.

Today’s Workout

  • 2.28 miles treadmill, walked slow
  • Step Class – 60 minutes
  • Elliptical – 10 minutes

The new treadmill at my gym has an option to walk at a decline instead of an incline. (So, now instead of worrying that I’ll roll off the back of the treadmill and collapse on the floor, I can worry that I’m going to fall off the front of the treadmill.)

I recently read online that running/walking on a decline might actually help quad pain. I figure that everything I read on the internet must be true, so I tried it out. I walked at between a -2 and -3% incline. I don’t think it worked because my quad still feels sore. Oh well. I guess the internet can’t always be right.

I’m trying to figure out why a treadmill would have a decline? Maybe to practice running down hills? Normally, you should walk/run at least a 1% incline on the treadmill because that’s what most mimics running/walking outside.

After my workout, I went to Target to something for dinner, and I finally bought the raspberry chocolate Chobani bites, and I am excited to try them out! I hear they might even be better than the caramel pineapple flavor.

My Target finally had the coffee Chobani flavor in, but sadly, I didn’t buy it yet. I figured that I better finished the raspberry ones first, and I still have pineapple ones to finish.

I bought the chocolate chunk yogurts for Jacob because he loves them.

So, I am a pretty indecisive person. This is why grocery shopping takes me so long because I have to examine every single thing before I buy it. But, I’ve decided that my wonderful son, Jaden, is even more indecisive than I am. Wonder where he gets that from?

Today was pajama day at school. It took him 20 minutes to pick out a pair of pajamas to wear…and I only gave him two pairs of pajamas to pick from.

He told me that the decision was way too hard, and finally he took a pair of pajamas out of his hamper and wore those. Whatever.

It’s cold here today, and I hate it. It’s 13 degrees and feels like -4 degrees. That’s not fun. It’s horrible. I was not made for winter. <—- That’s my complaint for the day!

Have a wonderful day. I am going to pretend like I am on a tropical beach somewhere…

Questions of the day:

  • What’s your complaint for the day?
  • Do you make decisions easily? What’s the last big decision that you made?
  • Do you live somewhere warm? Can I come visit you?
  • Ever run/walk at a decline?

I Workout and Eat…Story of my Life

Last Night’s Workout

  • Cardio Fit and Tone Class – 60 minutes
  • Elliptical – 10 minutes

I went to the cardio fit and tone class at 6:20 pm last night, so I had a bowl of Kashi cereal about 4 pm, then I had a clementine and 5 pistachios at 6 pm, and I had a smoothie with a little bit of Special K when I got home about 8 pm.

I usually try not to eat dinner so late, but my eating always gets messed up when I go to the gym around 6pm.

In my smoothie:

  • 1 1/2 cup strawberries
  • 1/2 cup peaches
  • 1 container plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 scoop protein powder
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • crushed ice

Today’s Breakfast

This morning, I had peanut butter toast, blueberries, and hazelnut coffee.

Coffee cup courtesy of my mom.

Today’s Workout

  • 1.15 miles treadmill, walked
  • Butts and Guts Class – 60 minutes
  • Stretching – 15 minutes

My right quad (it’s always my right side!) has been really sore lately, so this morning I pulled out the neglected massage stick and used it on my leg.

I think part of the problem is that I haven’t been stretching lately. I don’t stretch as often as I should, and I know that’s a problem. Today after Butts and Guts class, I stretched for 15 minutes, and I was so glad that I did afterwards. I really need to start stretching more.

After my workout, I had a Greek yogurt and a mini package of pistachios.

Each package has about six pistachios and is only 20 calories. A package or two is good for when I am craving something salty/crunchy. I usually crave sweets more than I do salty foods though.

I picked up my niece and the stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few veggies. When I got home I made a veggie and feta omelet for lunch. I also had veggies and hummus, strawberries, and a caramel pineapple Greek yogurt.

Biggest Loser

Are you watching the Biggest Loser? I was glad to see that yesterday’s episode discussed nutrition a little bit more. I like watching the Biggest Loser, but sometimes I get bored with just watching them workout all the time. I would love to know how many calories they eat, what they eat, when they eat, etc.

I think that diet is just as important as exercise if you’re trying to be healthy or lose weight, and I wished they showed more of that on the show.

I was also surprised to see that the kids on the show are also wearing the BodyMedia armbands. I thought only the adults were wearing them since they said the kids wouldn’t be weighed. Maybe they’re just wearing them to see how many calories they’re burning a daily basis.

Have a great afternoon!

Questions of the day:

  • Biggest Loser thoughts?
  • Do you stretch? How often?
  • Sweet, salty, or crunchy?
  • Workouts: morning or evening? Or afternoon?

I was Hungry and a 15k Training Program

Yesterday

Last night for dinner, I had Subway.

Not only did I have Subway, but I had a foot long sandwich (Don’t worry – I’m not crazy enough to measure my sandwich). I never eat a foot long sandwich. But after three days of smoothies for dinner, my body was like if you don’t eat something with substance and carbs, I am going to revolt by eating a giant cheese stuffed pizza and a huge plate of fries.

Not one to argue with my body, I figured that a foot long veggie sub and baked chips from Subway was a lot better to eat than a giant stuffed pizza. I was hungry, and I wanted to eat. I did eat a little more than my normal calorie count, but I didn’t go overboard like I sometimes would have in the past. And, I have Danny to help keep me on track.

Plus, the weekend is coming up and I rather have a treat on the weekend than on a random Thursday night.

I also might have stolen one or two (okay, three) of the kid’s potato faces.

Those little cute potatoey faces are really good, but they freak me out a bit…

I didn’t go to the gym last night because my body needed a rest. I have been working out a lot lately because of the fantasy fitness challenge at my gym, and sometimes I just need a little break. I feel like it’s smarter to listen to my body then push myself to exhaustion or injury. Yes, I really want to win a free one year gym membership, but not enough to jeopardize my health.

Don’t worry, I was back at the gym this morning :)

Cardio Vs. Strength Training

The other day in my fitness class some of the ladies were talking about their favorite fitness classes. I was the only one who preferred BodyPump over cardio classes. Everyone seemed to love the cardio classes. I like the cardio classes too, but BodyPump is my all-time favorite (which is why I do it three days a week).

I used to only love cardio. Two years ago, if you ever saw me in the gym, I would be on the treadmill, elliptical, or stairmaster. Now, I have a good balance between strength training and cardio.

BodyPump transformed my body in ways I never thought possible. I lost 30+ pounds and can see toned muscle now. It’s amazing.

Cardio is important to keep your heart healthy of course, but strength training builds muscle which helps you burn even more calories at rest. Muscle tissue burns more calories than fat tissue. I’m not saying that you have to take BodyPump three times a week, I’m just saying if you’re a cardio queen like I used to be, maybe try adding some strength training into your routine.

Today’s Workout

  • 1.1 miles treadmill, walked
  • BodyPump – 60 minutes
  • Zumba – 60 minutes

I didn’t have to watch my niece today, so I debated staying for Zumba after BodyPump this morning. I figured if the instructor who is 20 weeks pregnant has the energy to teach class then I should be able to take the class…so I stayed for Zumba.

Plus, Zumba is a such a fun workout that doesn’t actually feel like a workout. And by 1pm, I was already at 13,000+ steps for the day! Awesome.

Since I worked out a lot longer this morning, I had a little bit bigger post-workout snack than I normally do.

A mint Builder Bar and a peach Chobani Greek yogurt.

15k Training Plan

I figured if I am going to run nine miles then I better do a little bit of training because my typical mileage is anywhere from 1-5 miles, not nine.

I found a Hal Higdon training program online, and decided that it would be the one I would use. I have heard lots of good things about Hal’s plans, and liked that it’s 10 weeks long and simple to follow.

I probably will have to switch the days around to fit my schedule, but it’s basically two days of running, one long run that increases in mileage each week, and cross training. I’ll probably do it for more than 10 weeks, since I have time, and just repeat some of the weeks.

After the gym, I had a few errands to run. Tonight, we’re going to drop my car off at the mechanic because it’s having problems with the power steering fluid. Great.

Questions of the day:

  • Favorite sandwich?
  • Have you ever followed a training program?
  • Did you workout today? Ever try Zumba?
  • Any plans for the weekend?

Weigh-In Wednesday

Good morning! I have to start off with the weigh-in for DietBet because I am very excited! Since last Wednesday, I have lost exactly 4 pounds! That means I have lost a total of 5.4 pounds since Danny and I started the DietBet.

The best part is that I am finally below the weight that I was stuck at for four months. My scale hasn’t budged since I finished the Biggest Loser back in September. Now, I am down 5.4 pounds, and I have 15 days to lose .6 of a pound, and I will win my DietBet! I’m very happy if you can’t tell :)

I think the biggest factor is my weight loss has been the weekend eating. I have been a lot better at sticking to healthy eating during the weekends, which is hard sometimes, but it’s worth it when I see the difference that’s it’s made.

Yes, Danny and I went out to dinner last weekend, and ate a lot more than we usually do, but the next day, we were right back on track. I think that shows that one meal isn’t going to ruin your healthy eating and cause you to gain weight. As long as one meal doesn’t turn into overindulging the whole weekend, it usually won’t hurt. Hey, I ate a pizza and cheesecake and still lost 4 pounds!

Yes, Danny, I could hardly believe it either!

On the other hand, what works for me might not work for you. Everyone is different, and loses and gains weight differently. Don’t go out and eat cheesecake saying you’ll lose weight just because I did. But eating healthy and focusing on whole foods and less processed foods can benefit everyone.

Enough about me – Danny also weighed in today. He lost 1.8 pounds this week, and 12 pounds total. Great job, Danny! He is already at his 4% weight loss, so as long as he doesn’t gain any weight he’s good.

It was to be expected that he lost a smaller amount this week since he lost 10 pounds last week, but he is still doing awesome!

The hardest part will be the Superbowl – who doesn’t love snacks and beer at a Superbowl party? (Well, I hate beer, but others enjoy it. Danny) Luckily, the DietBet ends four days after the Superbowl, so even if we have a few snacks, we still have four days before we have to weigh in.

Last Night’s Dinner

Another smoothie!

I have been loving smoothies lately. I’ve jumped on the smoothie bandwagon…too bad I decided to do it in the middle of winter. They make me cold.

Last night’s smoothie included:

  • frozen strawberries
  • frozen blueberries
  • almond milk
  • crushed ice
  • plain Greek yogurt
  • vanilla protein powder
  • chia seeds
  • a little water

I also ate it with about 1/4 cup of cinnamon Cheerios for a little bit of crunch. The smoothie with the Cheerios was 309 calories and 24.7 grams of protein!

Today’s Workout

  • AMT Machine – 15 minutes
  • BodyPump – 60 minutes
  • 1.62 miles, treadmill

My gym got a new treadmill that I really like.

After my workout, I treated myself to a McDonald’s coffee…mostly because I was freezing and the coffee was hot.

Lunch

I was hungry by the time lunch rolled around today, so I made myself a cheese and veggie quesadilla, brussels sprouts, and a clementine.

Yum!

Have a great day!

  • Are you doing the DietBet? How are you doing?
  • Beer: Yes or No?
  • Favorite vegetable?
  • Do you have plans for the SuperBowl? Any SuperBowl snack recipes?

Smoothie Bowl

Yesterday’s Dinner

Last night, I had something that I don’t normally eat for dinner – a smoothie bowl! (I have a feeling Jessie will be very proud of me – I even checked out her site for a few smoothie recipe ideas).

Normally, I am not a fan of drinking my meals. It just doesn’t leave me feeling like I ate anything, but I noticed that by putting the smoothie into a bowl and eating it with a spoon, I felt more like I was eating my dinner rather than drinking it. I also had a salad with lots of veggie though.

The whole reason I even made a smoothie for dinner was because Danny and I bought a new protein powder last night that I wanted to try out.

In my smoothie:

  • 1 cup frozen sliced strawberries   50 calories
  • 1/2 cup frozen peaches   30 calories
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk   40 calories   1 gram protein
  • 1 scoop vanilla creme protein powder   50 calories   7.5 grams protein
  • 1/2 cup water
  • approx. 6 crushed ice cubes

Total Calories: 170   Total Grams Protein: 8.5

I also had a handful of spinach to throw in, but I forgot it in the fridge. I’ll have to remember it next time.

My Dad’s Workout

  • 3.14 miles elliptical
  • 45 minutes weights (chest and legs)

I’m very proud of my dad for continuing to go to the gym. Sometimes it’s hard to find time to workout, but there’s always ways to make it work. And you don’t have to work out a long amount of time or even all in a row. Even thirty minutes of exercise a day is good.

There are lots of ways to find time to workout:

  • Wake-up a half hour earlier to workout.
  • Schedule your workouts like you would an appointment. You wouldn’t skip an appointment, so don’t skip a workout.
  • Workout on your lunch break.
  • Break a thirty minute workout into three 10 minute workouts – morning, afternoon, and evening.
  • Find a workout buddy that will keep you accountable for showing up.
  • Workout in your living room while watching your favorite tv show – or even just during the commercials. Sit-ups, push-ups, squats, and lunges don’t require any equipment!

Today’s Breakfast

I had a delicious breakfast this morning – a peach oatmeal yogurt parfait.

I made these a lot during the summer, but when I was grocery shopping, the peaches looked so good that I had to buy one. And the best way to use a peach is in this parfait!

Today’s Workout

  • BodyPump – 60 minutes
  • AMT – 15 minutes

Fantasy Fitness League

The Good News: Danny and I won another point this week! We had 24 total workouts, and the team we were up against had 20 workouts.

The Bad News: One team had 36 workouts this week, and another team had 32 workouts! Seriously?! And we will eventually go up against both those teams.

Danny and I are at a slight disadvantage because Danny only has a fitness center membership and can’t take classes. Those other teams are taking classes and working out in the fitness center. I guess I’ll just have to step it up!

Have a great day!

  • Do you drink smoothies? What’s your favorite?
  • How do you find time to workout?
  • Do you use protein powder? What kind?
  • Any workout today?

Date Night!

Last night, Danny and I had our date night at California Pizza Kitchen.

First, we dropped the kids off by my mom’s house. She had freshly baked cookies when we got there. It’s pretty hard to turn down freshly baked cookies. So, I ate one…or three. Damn.

From there we headed to California Pizza Kitchen. We got there early enough that it wasn’t very busy. I hate crowds and waiting, so I get everywhere early. I am only 30, and I am already getting those early bird specials.

We started out with Mediterranean focaccia bread, and then ordered pizzas. Danny had the BBQ chicken minus the onions, and I had the Hawaiian BBQ pizza – red onions, gouda cheese, BBQ sauce, and pineapple.

The pizzas were delicious. They are a pretty big size, and we probably could have gotten by just sharing one… since I ate so many cookies and was full after half the pizza. I just wish that CPK had a pizza and salad combo. There were a few salads that I wanted to try but still wanted pizza.

We were way too full for dessert. That always happens. I look so forward to dessert, then I’m too full to order it…but don’t worry we got dessert later.

We walked around the stores nearby for a bit, and then we headed back towards my mom’s house. I wanted a dessert but wasn’t in the mood for anything cold (those darn Crest white strips make my teeth ache sooooo bad). So, we stopped at Mariano’s grocery store to check out their bakery. Good decision.

Danny got a red velvet cupcake, and I got a piece of peanut butter cheesecake. They were both delicious, but we didn’t finish those either. What’s happening to us!?

After that we went back to my mom’s house to pick up the kids. We had a nice date night and ate delicious food. Did I maybe eat a little bit more than I planned on? Yes. Is today a new day? Yes.

Today’s Workout

  • BootCamp – 60 minutes
  • 1.32 miles treadmill, walked

We stopped by my dad’s house last night after we picked up the kids, and we didn’t get home until after 11pm. When we got home, we stayed up until midnight watching CSI and eating our leftover pizza. So, when I woke up at 7am this morning, I wasn’t really feeling all that awesome – just tired.

I decided that I would go to the gym and just walk on the treadmill. But when I got to the gym at 8am, every single person coming into the gym was going to BootCamp (today’s cardio potluck choice), so I decided that BootCamp must be the cool place to go, and I changed my nice slow walking on the treadmill to BootCamp.

I’m glad that I did – after a five-minute warm-up, I was ready to go! I haven’t been to Boot Camp in a long time, so it was nice to do something different, and the class just flew by because it’s so much different stuff than I’m used to doing.

I talked to the instructor for a while after class. She was one of the Biggest Loser instructors, and I don’t see her often because she teaches the night classes, and I usually go to the day classes.

She asked if I was doing anything with my group exercise instructor certification yet. No, no I’m not.

I’ve haven’t talked about it in a while, but I did get certified to teach group exercise last year. To be honest, I am a little bit uncomfortable leading in a group setting. I’m used to taking the classes, not being the one teaching the class. And when I got my certification, I was 30 pounds heavier, so I didn’t feel comfortable with myself. But I knew I wanted to do something fitness related.

When my new gym opens later this year and will be hiring, I hope to be a certified personal trainer. I think I would be more comfortable with one on one training, and maybe ease into group instruction. I also felt for a long time that I had to “look the part.” If I wasn’t comfortable with my own body, how could I show people to be comfortable with theirs.

I plan on getting my certification through NETA where I have my group exercise certification from. I also have the NASM textbook because I studied that for a while. I do plan on ordering the study material, I just keep putting it off because basically I’m scared. Scared of what? Of not looking the part? Or failing? Of being overwhelmed? Once I bite the bullet and do it, I know I’ll feel a lot better. I was scared to get my group exercise certification, but when I passed the test with flying colors, I was so proud of myself.

We shall see what life brings!

  • What was the best thing that you ate this weekend?
  • Would you rather teach group exercise or train someone one on one?
  • What would you look for in a personal trainer? Ever been to one?

Weigh In Wednesday: DietBet

Last Night

I made spaghetti squash for dinner yesterday – man, those things are hard to cut open.

I topped my squash with roasted broccoli and onions, spinach, marinara sauce, feta cheese, and parmesan cheese. I also had a piece of tilapia for some protein.

Danny has been eating really well too. He had chicken, brown rice, and roasted broccoli.

After dinner, Danny talked me into going to the gym. At first I didn’t want to because we just ate, and I didn’t want to go into the dark and cold night. I’m motivated in the mornings, but at night, I just want to stay inside, especially in the winter.

But I knew Danny was right, and we should go to the gym – so we did.

Look at that – no make-up once again. Hey, sometimes you don’t wear make-up and sometimes you have crazy “I just woke up” hair. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

Last Night’s Workout

  • 2.08 miles treadmill, walked

I just walked on the treadmill for about 30 minutes last night since I had just eaten an hour prior. I don’t do very well working out after I eat, so I took it easy.

Even though I just walked, my knee was killing me by the time I was done, so I made sure to ice it when we got home. Dumb knee. My shoulder already hurts. Wait your turn, knee. Wait your turn.

Danny is one of those fun guys at the gym that runs on the treadmill sideways. If I even thought about running on the treadmill sideways, I would fly right off the back of the thing and crash into the wall – just like those lucky Biggest Loser contestants on their first day on the ranch. I guess Danny is cooler than me.

After our workout, I had an Atkin’s bar. I eat them as a dessert because when I close my eyes they almost taste like a Snickers bar. Almost.

Today – DietBet Update

Well, it’s officially been one week since Danny and I started the DietBet. It’s been going really good, and I am happy with the progress Danny and I have been making so far.

I weighed myself this morning and since last week, I’ve lost 1.4 pounds, which I am happy with. Going into the diet challenge, I knew that I was going to have a hard time because I have reached a weight loss plateau, so I am happy with any weight loss.

Danny has lost 10.2 pounds!! 10.2 pounds! Can you believe that?! (I must be a good coach :) ) It’s so awesome and he’s doing so great! He’s already lost his 4% of body weight. As long as he can maintain that weight loss for three more weeks, he’s won his DietBet!

It’s so amazing to me – 10.2 pounds in one week. When I first started trying to lose weight, and really cut the crap out of my diet, I lost seven pounds in my first week. I think you lose a large amount in the beginning and then it slowly tapers off. But it really shows how much weight you can lose just by getting rid of the junk in your diet – soda pop, candy, alcohol, white flour, etc.

Great job, Danny!

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning was one serving of Special K Protein with almond milk.

Today’s Workout

  • Adaptive Motion Trainer Machine – 16 minutes
  • BodyPump – 60 minutes

My legs were still sore when I woke up this morning, mostly my right one, so I got out the poor neglected foam roller. Whenever I have the foam roller out, Jaden must use it. I think it’s some kind of rule.

The best part was when I was foam rolling Jaden would walk around me saying stuff like, I know it hurts, but you just have to do it and I think you should be doing this 20 minutes a day. Who knew I had such a little trainer on my hands?!

My gym got a new machine that I tried out this morning called an adaptive motion trainer (AMT). It’s kind of similar to an elliptical…but different. It took me a minute to get used to but once I did, I liked it. You can change the length of your stride, which you can’t do on a regular elliptical. I will be using it again.

After the AMT machine, I went to BodyPump. I can’t wait until the new gym opens later this year because BodyPump gets crowded sometimes, and the room is very small.

Lunch

Lunch this afternoon was something that I used to make a lot but haven’t lately – a veggie flatbread pizza!

I used a Flatout flatbread and topped it with organic pizza sauce, ren onions, broccoli, green pepper, spinach, mozzarella and feta cheese. I also had some fruit on the side.

Tonight, I have plans to go to yoga…just gotta get my butt out of the house.

  • If you’re doing the DietBet, how are you doing?
  • Favorite thing you ate this week?
  • Favorite candy bar?
  • Is Danny awesome for losing 10 pounds or what?!

Home Alone

Last night I did triceps dips on the counter while dinner was cooking.

Please ignore the no makeup and bags under my eyes.

It wasn’t the best idea because my shoulder still hurts…but it was fun.

I usually don’t put makeup on if I’m just going to be staying home for the afternoon and evening. It’s just too much work, and usually after I get home from the gym, I’m lazy.

I didn’t end up making my spaghetti squash last night because like I said, I was being a lazy bum. I made peanut butter french toast instead. But I promised myself that I will make the spaghetti squash tonight!

Today

I am pretty boring today. Not much going on. I went to the gym as usual this morning.

Workout

  • 1.73 miles treadmill
  • Butts and Guts – 60 minutes

I know my butt is going to be feeling it tomorrow after that Butts and Guts class.

Directly from the gym, I went to pick up my niece from my brother’s house. He is doing a lot better since his surgery, but is still in some pain. I feel bad for him because he’s stuck in the house hardly able to move. He can’t drive yet, so he can’t go anywhere.

I know what it’s like to be stuck in the house and not really able to move around much. When I was pregnant with Jaden I had to be on bed rest for 6 months, so I feel his pain. The first day and half you’re like, this is awesome! I can relax all day! Then after a day and a half, you’re like this sucks! Get me outta this house!

So, he’s been watching Dexter on DVD. But do you know the worst part? After the DVD is over, he can’t bend down to put the next DVD in! Well, that sucks. Maybe I’ll make a DVD changing invention for you, Paul! Hang in there, it’ll all be over soon! Then, you’ll be back to your normal self.

Lunch

I made a veggie and cheese quesadilla with sour cream and pineapple salsa. I also had a few carrots and a pear Greek yogurt.

I topped the pear yogurt with Cinnamon Burst Cheerios because that’s the best way to eat it.

Yum!

Life Unexpected

Good afternoon! Today has been another one of those crazy, busy, running around days.

Today’s Workout

  • Butts and Guts Class – 60 minutes
  • Stationary bike – 12 minutes

I started my morning out at the gym. I brought my niece with me and luckily, she did good in the kid’s room without her older cousins there. I brought her a couple of times last week with Jacob and Jaden, and she did fine since they were in the with her. But they had school today, so she was by herself. She did cry a little bit when ever someone opened the door, but for the most part she did good.

Jacob and McGymnast practicing last night:

I went to Butts and Guts class this morning. With my brother hurting his back and the holidays, it’s been three weeks since I last went to Butts and Guts, so it was nice to get that cardio in this morning.

My gym got these cool new stationary bikes that I tried out really quick after Butts and Guts.

They’re neat because the screen shows you riding on an actual track, and the handle bars move so that you can move the bike on the television screen. I have never seen an exercise bike like this before so I was pretty intrigued.

Being on a race track motivated me to go faster because I kept trying to pass the other fake bikers on the track. I wasn’t able to stay on it too long because I had to go get my niece from the kid’s room.

Right after the gym, we had a doctor’s appointment to go to. After the doctor, we went to see my brother in the hospital, but first we had to stop for a quick lunch.

We stopped at Whole Foods because it’s 4 seconds away from the doctor’s office, so really there’s no excuse not to go. I had a salad with veggies, feta, and fruit.

I also has a baked apple cranberry dish from the hot bar. It was so good. I have never seen it at Whole Foods before, and it was delicous!

I have been doing really well with tracking my calories lately, but it always throws me off when I go to a place like Whole Foods because I have no idea how to calculate the calories. I had a salad with dressing on the side, a few pieces of fruit, (I didn’t eat the noodles), two bites of mashed potatoes, and three bites of cheese lasagna.

Honestly, how do you even calculate that? I guess you really can’t so I just estimate.

After the doctor and lunch, I took my niece to the hospital to see her dad (my brother). Paul finally had back surgery yesterday and is still in tons of pain today. He’s trying his best at physical therapy but the pain is intense, so they want him to stay at the hospital another day or two.

The physical therapist was there when I was there, and she explained that he can expect to have back pain later in life. His back will never be fully 100%. Yes, he’ll be able to regain normal and physical activity eventually, but his back will never be the same. My brother is 27.

I can’t even imagine what that must be like to go through. And of course, there was nothing that he could do about it. It’s just life. Hopefully, he’ll start feeling better soon, go to physical therapy, and be back to normal in the near future. As of now, he really can’t do anything at all.

Since he has to stay another night at the hospital, Baby McCutie came back home with me. We made it back home just in time for Jacob to get off the bus.

I’ve been a bit tired and stressed lately, but as long as I can get to the gym, I’m fine. Going to the gym is my alone time as well as a huge stress reliever. I am working hard with Danny to win the Fantasy Fitness challenge because it’s important to me and makes me feel like I am accomplishing something.

Right now life is a little bit crazy and up in the air with my brother being in the hospital. I am a person who thrives on schedules and routine, so not knowing what is going on day-to-day is hard for me, but I’m hoping that life will return to normal soon. As I bet my brother and sister-in-law are hoping too.

I threw dinner in the crock pot this morning, so that will make dinner time easier. Sometimes it’s hard to make dinner with three kids tearing the house up and being energetic. I’m making beef stew – beef stew meat, beef broth, a little flour and water, carrots, onions, potatoes, and seasoning. I really should use the crock pot more often.

In case you were wondering, I’ll be having a veggie omelet :)

Have a wonderful day!
