Valentine’s Day Ideas

Happy February 1st!

Last Night’s Workout

  • 1.12 miles treadmill, walked
  • Yoga Stretch – 30 minutes

My gym added a new class called Yoga Stretch about a month ago, and I finally got around to trying it out. It’s just 30 minutes of stretching, and I learned some really good stretches.

My dad has also been doing really good on his workouts. Yesterday he did 6.25 miles on the elliptical and burned over 700 calories! Then he worked on his bis and tris. I know this because he texts me his workouts :) He’s been working out and eating better, and I think he’s doing great!

February

Can you believe that it’s February already? We have quite a few things going on this February: it’s Jaden’s 6th birthday, my dad and stepmom’s birthdays (they’re only a day apart), my brother-in-law’s birthday, Valentine’s Day, and Jaden’s first school dance.

Can you believe they have school dances for elementary school – Jaden is only in kindergarten! I’m sure the “dance” will pretty much consist of the kids eating a slice of pizza, and then running around the gym like crazy people until they wear themselves out, and the teachers send them all home. The parent’s have to stay with their children, so it’ll be interesting, but Jaden is really looking forward to it.

We’re also having his family birthday party on the same day as the school dance, and then a party with his friends from school at Chuck E. Cheese the next day. This will be his first “kid” birthday party. Last year we went to the water park for his birthday.

Valentine’s Day

I know that there are a lot of people who don’t like Valentine’s Day, but I do. I think it’s a great day to tell your family and friends how much you love them. Sometimes, life gets crazy and hectic, and we don’t always remember to tell others that we love and appreciate them.

I don’t think Valentine’s Day is just about receiving gifts from a significant other, I think it’s about telling those special people in your life that you love them – parent’s, grandparent’s, spouses, children, friends, etc.

Danny and I usually exchange a little gift or two, but some years we don’t. I had a couple of cute ideas that would be good for those special people in your life.

Last year I made Danny a “man bouquet” which consisted of mini bottles of alcohol, coupons for free Coke, bubble gum cigars, and chocolate. I loved the way that it turned out.

For Christmas, I made some of the girls in my family “pampering in a jar.” These could easily be turned into a Valentine’s Day theme. I included lotion, socks, nail file bubble bath, etc. These would be great for a mother or sister.

One year, I cut out 365 paper hearts (that took forever!) and wrote on each one - reasons why I loved Danny, memories of the two of us together, important dates, etc. I put all 365 hearts into a gift bag. Then, everyday, Danny could pick out a heart and read it, and it would last a whole year until the next Valentine’s Day.

I also like to do something special for the kids, and it usually involves a Hershey Kiss trail leading from their bedrooms to the kitchen table.

This year, Danny and I aren’t going to go out to dinner. Instead, I decided that I am going to cook a nice meal at home for Danny and kids, and set it up like a restaurant because the kids love things like that. I even printed out “menus” that they’ll be able to order from.

Valentine’s Day is about celebrating your love for your family and others in your life.

Danny and I also offered to watch my niece the Saturday after Valentine’s Day so that my brother and sister-in-law could go to a nice dinner. With my brother’s back surgery and my sister-in-law working a lot they really have been going through a lot lately, so I hope that they can have a nice romantic dinner alone (and bring me back a slice of cake!) Just kidding. Not really. I’m serious. I want cake.

So before you are quick to judge Valentine’s Day, just think about how people aren’t in our lives forever. It’s important to tell people who you love and appreciate them everyday, not just Valentine’s Day because life passes by too fast sometimes.

Alright, on a less serious note, I’m glad that it’s Friday. Sunday is the Super Bowl! We’re going to my grandparent’s house to watch the game and have a chili cook-off! I’ll be making chili even though I don’t eat it.

I’ll be back later with today’s workout and such! Have a great morning!

Questions of the day:

  • When was your first school dance?
  • Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? Are you doing anything this year?
  • Any plans for the SuperBowl? And recipes to share?

  1. Can I be a part of your family? It looks like y’all have so much fun! Love your valentine’s day ideas!

  2. I think I used up all my sentimentality at Christmas, when I made Date Night in a Jar. But we usually do something for Valentines, even if it is just take-out and a movie at home.

  3. I can always count on you to come up with creative ways to celebrate a holiday!! I love it! The man bouquet is fantastic. :)

  4. What an awesome idea for a valentine’s day gift! I was thinking of making my bf cake pops. We shall see if I actually get around to it though!

I’ve been reading your blog forever and only recently realized I don’t see you eat any meat other than fish, random! do you not like or just choose not to eat meat?

    • I never really been a big meat eater, not even when I younger. I never really ate red meat because I just don’t enjoy it. I stopped eating chicken a couple of years ago and maybe will steal a bite of my hubbys every now and then. Its not that I’m against meat eating, it’s just that I don’t really enjoy it. So I eat fish and even then I have to be in a “fish mood.”

  6. I may have to steal that basket of goodies idea for my own husband. We don’t usually make a huge, huge deal of V day, but I still always plan out in my own head what might be nice to do, and since I’m always having trouble coming up with ideas on what to get the hubby, that just might be what I need for this year! Thanks! The “pampering in a jar” gift is good, too. Maybe I’ll do that for my mom and grandma :)

  7. I love Valentine’s day! Luckily, my husbands bday is the 9th, our anniversary is the 11th, and then vday. So we always try and plan something special to combine vday and the anniversary.

cute ideas. Not sure what I will be doing this year

  9. That’s sweet you put so much effort in to V-Day! I was thinking this year I’ll make my husband his favorite meal, lasagna. Yum!
