The Museum of Science and Industry

Happy Sunday! I tried to go to the gym early this morning, but it turns out that they don’t open until 8am. I think that’s the second time I’ve gone to the gym on a Sunday morning thinking that they open at 7am, only to find out that they don’t open until 8am. I guess the early bird doesn’t always catch the worm.

I came back home and uploaded some picture to the computer, and then headed back to the gym.

But first…

Yesterday

Yesterday morning, Danny and I took the kids to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. I was so happy to see that they still had their Charlie Brown Christmas tree and Christmas Trees from Around the World set-up.

We went to two exhibits – the coal mine and The Great Charlie Brown Exhibit, and then they kids played with all the different stuff at the museum.

Even Danny had fun playing at the museum.

Danny, Jaden, and I went into one of those wind tubes. Jacob didn’t want to go in, so he took pictures.

We stopped at the food court for lunch around noon. I had half a Caesar salad and half a Thai peanut salad with some Greek yogurt on the side.

I really liked the Thai peanut salad, but it was a little too spicy for me. I can’t handle spicy foods at all.

Later in the day, we came across this Twinkie display:

Can you believe all the ingredients that are in a Twinkie?! I am definitely a big fan of sweets, but thankfully, I never liked Twinkies.

They even had a Twinkie that’s been on display since 2009…and it’s in perfect condition.

Makes you really think about what you eat and put into your body.

After the everlasting Twinkie, we made the kids run on a hamster wheel. Don’t worry, they liked it.

We stayed at the museum through the afternoon and then headed out to do a few errands.

Today’s Workout

  • Yoga Bootcamp – 60 minutes
  • 2.3 miles treadmill, jogged/walked

Today is the first day of the Fantasy Fitness League! I made sure to go to the gym bright and early…a little too early since the gym was closed. I headed back to the gym at 8am for yoga bootcamp.

My gym offers a different class with a different instructor every Sunday morning. Today it was yoga bootcamp with a newer instructor. The class wasn’t difficult exactly, but since it was a different instructor, I wasn’t really used to some of the poses, and it was a lot more focused on breathing and inner peace than my normal yoga class.

At the end of the class, the instructor came around and gave everyone neck massages. You could lay your hand on your stomach if you didn’t want a massage…I put my hand on my stomach. I am just not comfortable with strangers touching me. Then at the end of the class, she announced, oh, you missed the best part of class – the neck massage! Thanks, thanks a lot.

After yoga, I went to the fitness center to jog/walk a quick two miles on the treadmill. The fitness center was very crowded (hello, new year’s resolutions), but I was able to find one open treadmill.

Since Danny is my partner in the Fantasy Fitness challenge, I am forcing him to go to the gym every possible second. Just kidding. Kinda. He’s going to go to the gym late this morning. Then, he’ll usually go before work or at night. I know it’s a lot harder for him to go since he has a full-time job, but once you get into a routine it gets easier!

Questions of the day:

  • Do you take yoga classes? Ever had a yoga massage?
  • When was the last time you went to a museum?
  • Do you have a workout routine that you stick to or just workout when you can?

  1. The museum looks like so much fun! I haven’t been there in a while–I should really get back. I love that we have so many different options right in Chicago. I really need to not take that for granted!

I took a yoga class once and didn’t have the option to opt out of the neck massage. I was very uncomfortable. The instructor even massaged your head. I walked out looking like a mess and felt violated.

  3. They gym at school always opened later on the weekends and I hated it! I would never join a gym that wasn’t 24/7.

  4. That museum looks awesome! How cool that the twinkie is still in perfect condition after so many years. I’m pretty sure I would’ve been hestitant to break the glass & eat it =)

  6. I love the museum of science and industry. As a kid it was my favorite! I haven’t been in a long time…I should definitely take a field trip downtown and go again!
