Pile on the Miles 2012

Pile on the Miles 2012

I just signed up for the annual Pile on the Miles challenge on Monica’s blog. I also participated in Pile on the Miles last year.

The premise behind pile on the miles is pretty simple – instead of piling on the pounds during the holiday season, you work towards running or walking more each week. You set a personal goal for yourself and update a spreadsheet weekly. It’s a great way to hold yourself accountable as well as a way to win prizes!

Pile on the Miles goes from November 1st – December 1st, so if you’re interested, go sign up! You don’t have to have a blog or even run tons of miles to sign up – it’s for everybody.

Yesterday’s Evening Workout

  • Zumba – 60 minutes

Notes to self:

a) You can’t dance to save your life. At all. Not even a little. But that’s okay because you’re having fun.

b) If you wear tiny shorts while dancing, they are going to keep riding up and make you look like you’re not wearing any pants. Then you’ll spend the next 45 minutes trying to pull them down while dancing. Do not wear shorts to Zumba again – even if it’s humid.

Today’s Workout

  • 1.35 miles pink treadmill
  • BodyPump – 60 minutes

So far, I’m coming in first in Bingo with the most cards completed!

I’m not sure if it even matters who’s in first because I think the final prize is a raffle drawing. Of course, it’ll benefit me because I’ll have more cards entered into the raffle, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed because the prize is a gym membership. I think they’re giving away a 3 month and a year membership. That would be nice because I pay $55 a month for my gym membership.

When I belonged to Cardinal Fitness, I paid about $10 a month, but that only included the gym only. At my gym now, I get use of the fitness center, unlimited fitness classes, and use of the kid’s room. So, to me, it was worth it, especially the kid’s room when Jaden wasn’t in school.

After the gym, I had a couple of errands to run, so I packed a black cherry Greek yogurt in my handy-dandy cooler to eat after BodyPump. Only 100 calories and 10 grams of protein. Plus, black cherry yogurt is awesome.

Lunch

For lunch today, I made an egg and potato bowl – my bowl included: scrambled egg whites, sautéed potato, garlic, broccoli, and cheese.

It was delicious!

Well, I’m off to work on my Halloween costume!

Questions of the day:

  • Do you eat more around the holidays?
  • Favorite holiday food?
  • If you have a gym membership, how much do you pay?
  • Can you dance?

  1. I don’t have a membership to a gym but my husband does! We pay a little extra for a “plus 1″ membership so that I can go with him if I want, but if I don’t he can take whoever he wants at no charge! It works really well for us because I prefer to work out at home.

  2. I eat a lot more during the holidays :( I wish I didn’t, but there’s hardly a baked good on this earth that I can say no to. My sweet tooth gets the best of me.

I go to the Y and I pay $31/mo (use of gym, pool, all classes, NO childcare), but that’s with the “young adult” discount… unfortunately, I turn 29 in December and my rates go up to $39/mo. Still not bad, considering everything I have access to.

Yes, I do eat more around the holidays;(( my favorite holiday food would have to be cookies. I do have a gym membership, it costs 81.00 a month….I get use of all the cardio machines, free weights, strength work machines, pool, tennis, basketball, all the classes, and there is an indoor running track, showers (with shampoo, conditioner, liquid soap, shaving cream, towels, blow driers). I like to think I can dance:)), if I really can’t I like too!

Thanks for the heads-up on POTM! I signed up too. Totally need this goal:). I’ll pretty lucky with my gym. It has just about everything but it’s a bit expensive – indoor/outdoor pool, kids club, all machines, 99% of classes are included, sauna and discounts on kid classes. There is also a snack bar.

You are KILLING it on the cards – way to go!!

  6. I like to think I can dance but others opinions may differ greatly, lol! Actually, I DO think I have great rhythm and can move but it takes a while for me to get the coordination down.

I pay $25 per month for my gym and that is pretty standard around here. It includes classes and the gym. No childcare though…..

  7. Ha, I wish I only paid $50.00/mo for my gym membership. I go to the cheapest gym, and I pay $175.00 for 2 months. Yup ridiculous.. but living aint cheap over here in Kuwait!

I just signed up for the pile on the miles 2012, or at least I think I did. I just had to add my name to the spreadsheet, right? Thanks for the info on that. I need to find some way to get motivated to get moving. I just feel like I don’t have enough time in the day to get everything I need/want to get done. It’s a problem I am working on.
I am not a memeber to a gym and I wish I was. We were members to a gym and paying $60 for 2 people plus childcare. They took away the childcare and we took away our membership. We need a place we can take our son too and he loved going there. Now I’m hoping to start earning enough money so we can join a sports club with indoor/outdoor pool and tons of classes and activities so we can make it more of a family fun thing to go there.

    • Yay for signing up for pile on the miles! Yup all you have to do is add your name and update the spreadsheet weekly! My old gym took away the childcare too and only gave us 24 hours notice. I was so mad!!

  9. My favorite holiday food is roast turkey with gravy. I really love it!

I just changed gyms. I was at a gym for $11 a month. It is a 10-minute drive from my house and had decent enough equipment. No classes of course. Crowded.
I signed up for a gym that I used to belong to (it’s a local chain) that is 1/2 mile from my house. I got a deal for $10 a month for 6 months, then the membership becomes $35. I think that is quite reasonable, especially because that place used to charge $60. You can use any of the chain’s gyms (mostly in the Philly area). The gym itself is very quiet and not at all crowded. The weights are padded enough that I don’t have to wear gloves. And there are classes if I want to do them. I just did my first spinning class last night in about 3 years!
They have childcare during the times I go, which is good if I ever become a Mom.
