Happy Monday! I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend! Danny and I had a great weekend at Hotel Arista.
On Friday night, we dropped the kids off at my mom’s house and then headed to Hotel Arista, about 40 minutes away. We checked into our room – a two room suite with awesome floor to ceiling windows and three flat screen tvs.
We had an hour in-room couples massage scheduled for 8 pm, and we arrived about 45 minutes before. Neither Danny or I have ever had a massage before, so we were a little nervous and unsure what to expect
The massages therapists, a man and a women, arrived at our room and set up their massages tables. They recommended remaining clothed since it was our first massage, so we just changed into shorts and tank tops. The massage was definitely a different experience – I wouldn’t call it good or bad, just different. It wasn’t exactly relaxing, but it wasn’t exactly painful either. I think it helped make my muscles less tense.
I know some people swear by massages, but I think I would be okay if this was my first and last ever massage.
After the massages, room service delivered dinner to our room, along with a dozen roses. I ordered pappardelle pasta with pine nuts, eggplant, and brown butter parmesan cream. Danny had the New York strip, and we had creme fraiche vanilla panna cotta for dessert.
I ate about half of my pasta, and the entire dessert.
On Saturday morning, we went to the hotel gym for a quick workout.
Danny ran on the treadmill, and I did a 33 minute program on the elliptical.
Afterwards, we went to Corner Bakery for breakfast, and then we went to Cantigny Gardens to walk around.
We didn’t stay too long because it was so cold out!
Saturday night was Pirate Night! My brother described it best when he said, pretty much we’re going to dress up like pirates and then sit around and drink all night.
We put out some fun pirate decorations, and I had a few games planned.
Before everyone arrived, I hid gold coins all around the room. Then, when everyone got there, I gave them a bag with 10 gold coins in it and a list of words that they weren’t allowed to say for the night. Some of the words included: pirate, parrot, rum, skull, work, and dad. If you said one of the words on the list you had to give the person who caught you one of your gold coins. You could also collect the gold coins around the room and whoever had the most gold coins at the end of the night was the winner.
It was a lot of fun. I think my dad and I had to pay out the most gold coins. He said rum about every 10 seconds, and I said dad about every 10 seconds.
Here’s some pictures from our Pirate Night:
I didn’t want to spend too much on my pirate costume since it’s not what I’m wearing for Halloween. I found the pirate dress at Goodwill for $7 and the earrings at Target for $1.78. I already owned the fishnets and boots, so my whole costume was under $10!
Marlene made an awesome run cake, keeping in theme with our Pirate Night.
And she brought candy corn Oreos!
I haven’t been able to find these anywhere!
It was a very fun night, and I think everyone enjoyed themselves!
Sunday morning, we woke up and watched some of the Chicago Marathon on tv.
I can’t believe how fast they can run! Less than 5 minute miles for 26 miles?! That’s amazing!
Then, we packed up our stuff and headed downstairs to the hotel restaurant for brunch. The first thing on the menu was peanut butter chocolate chip pancakes. Sold! I didn’t even look at the rest of the menu.
The pancakes were so delicious! I also got a side of home fries. I ate two of my pancakes before I started to get full…and bored.
I turned my remaining pancake into Pac-Man and had a fun time entertaining myself.
We picked up the kid’s from my mom’s house, and headed home to watch the Chicago Bears game. Thanks for watching the kids, Mom!
The kid’s have no school today, and Danny has the day off, so I’m skipping BodyPump, and we’re picking up my niece and taking the kids to the pumpkin farm!
Have a great day!
