All by Myself

I’ve figured out why they created Zumba and cardio dance classes – so that those of us who are too old to go to the club and dance, can just go to the gym and dance.

Last night I went to cardio dance class, which is pretty much the exact same thing as Zumba only it’s 45 minutes long instead of an hour.

Going to get my dance on:

Whenever I go to BodyPump, I like to stay up near the front of the class near the mirror so that I can watch my form. At cardio dance, I hide back in the corner as far away from the mirror as possible.

I am definitely not a dancer, but the class is just so much fun. And luckily, no one cares that I look crazy dancing.

And the instructor is awesome. She’s from Brazil and such a great dancer. And I love that she gives tons of visual cues as what to do next. With the music so loud, it’s kind of hard to hear any audio cues, so the visual cues are perfect.

I don’t think Zumba will be on my normal workout schedule, but it’s nice to go to class every once in a while to change things up.

Today was the first day of middle school and kindergarten for my kids!

I made a special chocolate chip pancake breakfast in the shape of a “J”, topped with whipped cream, of course. Whenever there’s a special occasion, you always get a pancake in the shape of your first intial. That’s just how life works.

I did really good up until Jacob got onto the bus. Then the tears started. It’s so hard seeing your babies grow up. And it’s doubly hard because both my kids are starting new schools this year.

The weirdest part is that I will be alone during the day. I have not been alone in 11 years. It’s a strange feeling. I don’t know what to do. When Jacob started kindergarten, Jaden was born, so I had him at home. Now they’re both in school, and I’m all alone.

Today’s Workout

  • BodyPump

After dropping Jaden off at kindergarten, I went to BodyPump all red and swollen eyed.  At least BodyPump took my mind off my babies being gone.

After BodyPump, I came home to an empty house and ate breakfast all alone. Welcome to Heather’s Pity Party. Population: 1

In my overnight oats:

  • 1 container strawberry Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup Quaker oats
  • 1/4 cup almond milk
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • blueberries

In a little bit of good news, I won a $50 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card on Twitter! Thank you, Dunkin’ Donuts! $50 worth of coffee?! Yes, please. And I might have to throw a donut in there. I think I might have to try out their new mocha k-cups.

Tonight, I have a nutrition class for the Biggest Loser and then the 5k prep. The end is getting near! I’m not quite sure what I am going to do once the biggest loser is over. I have been doing a weight loss challenge for almost half a year, and it has kept me so motivated. Hopefully, I can continue to do good on my own.

Well, I’m off to peek out the window every minute until I see Jacob get off the bus.

Questions of the day:

  • Is it hard for you to watch your kids go off to school? Did you like going to school when you were young?
  • Ever been to Zumba or cardio dance class?
  • What’s for breakfast?

College was the worst when I took Kayla last year! I cried!! This year it was easy.

  2. Fit Minded Mom

I cry every year when I leave my daughter at school on the first day. Ugh, it is SO hard watching them grow up. It just makes me think about the day they won’t need me any more. :-( Looks like I have joined your pity party.

    • Pity Party Population: 2 I even cried when Jacob got off the bus! Lol! I told my kids they could live with us forever and my husband told me that I was crazy! But I don’t want them to grow up either!

I made my kids chocolate chip pancakes today for the first day of school too…but I’m kicking myself for not thinking about doing their initials.
It wasn’t too hard to send my boys off this morning (8th and 5th grade), but next Wednesday I’ll be sending my baby girl to kindergarten and I’m sure that will be hard. Like you, I’ve always had a baby at home when I’ve sent one off to kindergarten, and I will be having my own pity party next week. So you have all my sympathies. :)

  4. My gym just started offering Zumba classes . . . and I’m thinking of giving it a try. Eek. Usually I need a couple of adult beverages to get me up and dancing. :)

Good luck with the start of the school year!!!

Lol, I laughed at your comment about being old and Zumba. I feel like there’s less pressure at the gym in the Zumba classes.

Today was my daughter’s first day of school, but she is a sophomore in high school, so it hit me that we only have 2 more first days of school to go before she goes to college! Pity party of 2-me and her!

The worst is when they go to college. 2years ago my oldest joined the Army and my daughter left for college. Ugh. The.very.worst. I was a mess for about 8 months. I got a puppy and started running. :)

I saw a recipe in the newspaper today- Smore pancakes! You take the chocolate chip pancake and top it with graham cracker crumbs then melt a marshmallow on top—mmmmgood :) Glad you made it through today.

  9. I have to say your pictures of Zumba are spot on! My class is for tomorrow but I always look like that! I thought I was the only one! Congrats on the Dunkin Donuts Coffee! I fell in LOVE with their ‘normal’ coffee. So delicious!

  10. I am dreading when school starts here! #traffic

  12. $50 gift card?! Nice!!!!!
I’ll be in your situation next year, my youngest will still be home, but next September all 3 will be gone during the day, it’s going to be so weird!!!

  13. V starts Monday…I am going to try to be brave.

  14. It is hard to watch your babies grow up. :-( But glad you went to class and took your mind off it. Congrats on scoring a $50 gc to DD!
