Splash, Step, and So Happy Tennis is Over

Yesterday

Yesterday afternoon, the kids and I packed a lunch and headed to the splash park for a while.

The kids had a great time playing in the water, sand, and at the park. Sometimes, I think they like the sand more than the water.

Me:

Last Night’s Workout

  • 5 minutes run/1 minute walk (x3)
  • strides

Last night, we had a nutrition seminar for the Biggest Loser program. I can’t believe that it has been six weeks, and the program is half over already. I’m definitely not losing as much weight as I did for the spring weight loss challenge. These last 10 pounds have proven to be the hardest to lose.

After the nutrition seminar, we discussed eating out and fast food. The dietician gave some good tips, like checking the menu and calories beforehand, sharing meals, wrapping up half your meal to take home before you even start eating, blotting pizza with a napkin, and avoiding the bread and chips. Too bad bread and chips are my favorite part.

At the nutrition seminar, we went outside for our 5k prep workout. First, we ran for 5 minutes and walked for 1 minute, three times. Then we did strides.

Finally, finally, finally an exercise to help improve my running form. Basically, for the strides, we ran from one lamp post to another doing a different kind of stride – butt kicks, high knees, walking lunges, sprints. It was a great 5k prep workout, and I wish it was more than once a week.

After, I came home and made a big plate of spaghetti squash with marinara sauce, steamed broccoli, and parmesan cheese. I also had a small piece of sockeye salmon.

Today’s Workout

  • Step Class – 60 minutes

I don’t usually take step class because I am very uncoordinated, but I wanted to switch things up today. I kept up as best as I could and just tried to always keep moving.

After step class, Jacob, Jaden, and I meet my brother, sister-in-law and niece at Panera for lunch. I forgot to bring my camera, but if you really want to know what I ate, it was half a Mediterranean veggie sandwich without tomatoes on sourdough bread, half a strawberry poppy seed salad (no chicken, no oranges), and a fruit cup. And maybe two bites of Jaden’s bagel. Darn kids, ordering delicious doughy bagels.

Before Parena, we stopped at Target. I walked out with only two boxes of Clif Z bars. Impressive. Or maybe it was because I only had $8 and five minutes before I had to meet my brother for lunch.

Now, we’re off to tennis lessons. It’s the last class.

Thank. Goodness.

Questions of the day:

  • What’s your favorite thing to do outside?
  • Where’s your favorite place to eat lunch?
  • Do you do anything special when you run – speed work, fartleks, tempo runs, etc.

  1. I probably should do something special for my running, but I don’t. I just head out the door and run. :)

  2. My favorite place it eat lunch?? Hmmm… I don’t know. However, I am really loving a Mexican restaurant in Arlington Heights called Mago. I also like Wildberry in BG, if I can sit outside.

I adore hiking the great outdoors.
