You’ve Got to be Kidding Me

Yesterday’s Workout

  • 30 minutes spin bike
  • 10 minutes treadmill – walking @ 3.0 mph

I had a physical therapy appointment yesterday morning, and afterwards I went to the gym before I had to pick Jaden up at school. Instead of doing the stationary bike, I decided to use the spin bike. I finally figured how to get my rpm higher while standing on the bike. You kind of have to bend your knees more, and I think I was keeping my legs too straight. That spin bike is a workout!

After the bike, I spent 10 minutes walking slowly on the treadmill. I still plan on doing the Dine & Dash 5k in about two weeks, so I wanted to get my body used to walking and maybe a little jogging. I plan on doing the race slow – I don’t want to reinjure myself or make my calves and feet any worse. This race won’t be for time, it’ll be for fun and food! After I walked, my calves felt fine and my heel didn’t hurt any worse than normal, so I took that as a good sign.

My crazy gym hair and I packed a yogurt for after my workout. I was so excited to eat it. Yes, that’s right, I was excited to eat yogurt. But I realized that I forgot to bring a spoon. For a minute, I actually thought about sucking it out of the container, but decided against it. Instead, I drove the three minutes to my house and got a spoon.

The kid’s got Gak for Easter, and they spent yesterday afternoon playing with it. And I spent yesterday afternoon picking up tiny pieces of Gak off of the carpet.

Does anyone remember Gak? It actually came out when I was little, and they recently brought it back. The commercials even say Gak is Back. I think it’s actually a Nickelodeon thing. It’s kind of like slime. Jacob figured out how to use a straw to blow bubbles in his Gak.

I received an email this morning from my weight-loss challenge coach about my daily calorie intake. According to the calculations, to lose one pound a week, I can only have 1,136 calories a day.

If I eat only 1,136 calories a day, I won’t lose a pound a week, I’ll die. And I need 119 grams of protein a day. What? I thought I was doing good with my 60+ grams a day. 119 grams?! Why don’t I just get a cow for my backyard and feast on him. I don’t eat meat besides fish, so 119 grams isn’t going to happen.

First of all, 1,136 calories a day is just stupid. There is no way that I can survive on that. This week, I have stayed between 1,600 and 1,800 calories, and I know I’ve already lost a pound or two. Second, if I did eat 1,136 calories a day, after this challenge was over there is no way that I’d be able to maintain it. I’d gain back all the weight. Third, how do you possibly get 119 grams of protein eating only 1,136 calories a day?

I emailed the coach back, and asked if the calorie count took in account that I work out at least 5 days a week because 1,136 calories just aren’t going to cut it. We’ll see what she says. I’m becoming a little weary of this weight loss challenge.

Edited to add: My daily calorie needs were based on my RMR (resting metabolic rate), which I don’t believe that they calculated correctly because of my activity level.

Today’s Workout

  • Butts and Guts fitness class

My gym starting offering a new class on Tuesday morning – Butts and Guts. It’s an hour-long cardio and strength class focusing on abs and glutes. I wore my new one pink sleeve tank.

I’ve also come up with an easy way to keep track of my water intake. I get a 16.9 ounce water bottle in the morning. Every time I finish a bottle, I mark it off on the bottle. Then I refill the same bottle. That way at the end of the day, I count the marks on the bottle and multiply it by 16.9 to see how many ounces I’ve had.

Questions of the day:

  • What are your thoughts on 1,136 calories a day?
  • If you count calories, how many do you consume a day?
  • Do you have a favorite workout shirt or outfit?
  • Any tips to drink more water?
