Randomness #1:

Things That Suck:

  • Trying on clothes at the mall with two energetic children who are tearing the store apart.
  • Realizing that you can’t squeeze into your normal size pants (maybe I should lay off the Christmas cookies?!).
  • Finally finding a pair of pants that fit after a half hour & are on sale for $9.99, waiting in line for 10 minutes, and then realizing that you left your wallet at home in your gym bag. Seriously?!

Needless to say, it wasn’t a great trip to the mall.

How I felt after the mall:

Randomness #2:

After the mall, I had a deep, thoughtful, and insightful text message conversation with my dad. It went like this:

Dad: Hi

Me: Hi

Dad: Happy Christmas eve, eve, eve

Me: Lol. You too!

Dad: Tomorrow I’m going to send you a message that says Happy Christmas eve, eve.

Me: Okay. Thank you.

Dad: Then after that…the next day I’ll see you and say Happy Christmas eve.

Me: That’s a really good idea.

See, I told you that it was deep and insightful. That’s some serious conversation right there.

Randomness #3: Lunch

Salad with romaine lettuce, spinach, red pepper, carrots, tortilla strips, and salsa ranch dressing. Bagel thin with egg whites, Muenster cheese, and peach preserves. Same ol’, same ol’.

Randomness #4:

This afternoon the kids and I worked on a top-secret Christmas Eve treat with these ingredients.

Do you have any random thoughts today?

I figured that since I have unlimited fitness classes now, I’d better take advantage of it. So, after doing BodyPump yesterday morning, I decided to try out Yoga-Lates last night. According to the park district activity guide, Yoga-Lates is described as:

Find focus and balance as you gracefully transition from yoga’s strength and stretch movements to Pilates-inspired movements.

Danny misses me when I go to Yoga-Lates:

I took yoga classes about four years ago, and while the teacher was nice, I didn’t real feel a connection with her and never really had the desire to go back to yoga. But the instructor that teaches yoga at the park district is also the one of the instructors that teaches BodyPump, so I knew that I liked her.

Where BodyPump is energetic, fast-paced, and loud, Yoga-lates is calm, slow, and quiet. It’s a nice change of pace.

I wasn’t too nervous about going since I’ve done yoga before, but it turns out that this yoga was completely different. Luckily, I was able to pick up the moves pretty quickly, even though the whole class was done in the dark with a tiny desk lamp so you could just make out the teacher.

The first half of the class was pretty fast-moving with a lot of focus on abs and got my heart rate up. Whew, who knew yoga could be so tough. The second half was more relaxing and by the end I wanted to go to sleep.

The hardest part for me was the balancing. I am a clumsy person normally, so that tree pose and I had a hard time getting along.

I liked the yoga-lates class and plan on going back. It was definitely more my thing than Step & Sculpt was.

I’m not sure if my kids know that they’re on Christmas break or not because they wake up at the crack of dawn. Normally during the school week, I have to drag them out of bed. Now that they’re on vacation, they’re up before the sun, which means I get no quiet time. Jeesh.

For breakfast today I had Dannon Oikos blueberry Greek yogurt with a little bit of Bear Naked cereal sprinkled on top for crunch. I haven’t had the blueberry flavor in a while, and I forgot how good it is.

Today’s a busy day – I have to go to the mall to return my son’s Nintendo DS game because he bought one that he already has. Go figure. Then I have to pick something else up at the mall that hopefully has come in (it’s a secret), and I have to pick up Baby Cutie Ruffle Bottom. I also still have more presents to wrap – it never ends!

Have you ever taken yoga or Pilates? Do you like the tree pose?

My son’s question of the day (he asked me to post it on my blog): Are angels real?
