I Love Cookies

We left the house today to do some errands and guess what was sitting on my front porch when we came out the door?

My first dozen cookies from a stranger!

Okay, okay, they are the cookies from the Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap. I was so excited that I brought the box in the car with me and ripped that baby open.

They were from Christine at Chew Nibble Nosh, and they were amazing! Chocolate Orange Crackles. At first I was kind of nervous about the chocolate and orange flavors together, but these cookies were delicious. So soft and moist, even after shipping.

And she sent them in a nice snowman tin. Now I kind of feel lame-o about sending mine in Ziploc containers. Oh well…

After eating a bunch of cookies, Danny, Jaden, and I did some errands and stopped at the Egg Harbor Cafe for lunch, which was breakfast food.

I had the skillet with eggs, broccoli, onions, cheese, and potatoes. It was delicious – definitely the best skillet that I have had. I love that it wasn’t ginormous and covered in gobs of cheese like some skillets are. It was perfect.

After lunch, we lounged on some cement couches in the middle of the street for a while.

Then we went home to eat some more delicious cookies.

Have a great afternoon!

The Best Time of the Year

Yesterday

Yesterday was a pretty rough day – I had severe sinus pressure, a cough, and lots of wheeziness. And I’m pretty sure that everyone is sick of hearing about it – I know that I am. Thankfully, I got antibiotics from the doctor and am on my way to feeling better.

I wasn’t too hungry yesterday, but I stopped at Starbucks and had an egg and cheese sandwich with some Naked OJ for lunch. Starbucks will serve breakfast sandwiches all day as long as they have some left and they kindly take off the ham for me.

Last night for dinner, I planned on having “sit in the fridge for awhile oats”. I mixed up Greek yogurt, oats, and almond milk and let it sit in the fridge. But after 30 minutes I wasn’t feeling too hungry, so I decided to leave it in the fridge until this morning.

So, I had real “overnight oats” for breakfast today. I also had Bear Naked chocolate cherry trail mix that the company sent me. Cranberries, almonds, cherries, raisins, and whole grain chocolate granola clusters. After I got the raisins out of there, it was pretty darn good.

Okay, enough about sickness and food. Let’s move on to better stuff – like the holidays! I love Christmas – it’s my favorite time of the year. I love all the fun Christmas activities.

We already had breakfast with Santa. And tomorrow we’re going to cut down our Christmas tree. Every year my family goes out together to cut down a tree.

Cutting down the tree last year:

And I love decorating the tree with Danny and the kids:

Last year, we took the kids on the Polar Express. We went on the train to the North Pole and read the Polar Express book and sang Christmas carols. Santa came on the train and passed out a bell to each child, just like the bell in the book. Then the kids got to see Santa and each kid got an ornament and a cookie. The kids loved it.

I also love Christmas cookies. Actually, I love them a little too much.

I love getting together with my family and friends around the holidays and exchanging presents.

My favorite part is watching the kids open their gifts on Christmas morning. It’s such a magical time for them and they are so happy.

We also make sure that we give gifts to others that may not have any through JC Penney’s Adopt an Angel program.

And every year, we get together with my family for a New Year’s Eve party because it’s all about being with the ones you love to bring in the new year. And if you can’t be with the ones you love, at least you have them in your thoughts and hearts.

What are your holiday traditions? Or what is your favorite time of the year?
