Potato Fail

Workout: Body Pump

After I dropped my son off at school, I went to Body Pump. I hadn’t taken Body Pump in a week and was still sick so I wasn’t sure how class would go. But I actually felt fine. I’m still just waiting for those lunges to get easier.

Does anyone else struggle with lunges? I can do squats all day, but lunges kill me for some reason.

The Body Pump instructor gave us all a coupon for free panties at Victoria’s Secret that was good today only. You better believe that after Body Pump I hauled my butt over to the mall to use it. There’s no way that I’m passing up free underwear.

On the way to the mall, I drank my vanilla Odwalla protein drink. It was actually a lot better than I thought, being that I’m not really a vanilla fan. Do I like the chocolate better? Yes. Would I buy the vanilla again? Yes.

When I got home from the mall, Danny talked me into going to Chili’s for lunch. The conversation went like this:

Danny: Want to go to Chili’s for lunch?

Me: Yeah, okay.

So, off to Chili’s we went. We shared chips and salsa, and I had the soup and salad combo. I got the baked potato soup, minus the bacon. It had three potatoes in it. That was all. Potato fail.

Danny had something with dead cow in it. I don’t usually pay attention because he usually orders gross things – like hamburgers.

At the restaurant, I started to feel pretty congested again, so I decided that it was finally time to stop being a cheapo and buy some medicine.

Don’t worry, I didn’t buy any of those fancy brands. I just bought the generic Meijer brand decongestants.

I guess that’s what I get for buying generic because I took two and it didn’t help. So, I slept for a while. That helped a little.

Now I am awake and¬†contemplating how I can get dinner to make itself. I don’t think any of my ideas will work, so I guess I’m off to make dinner.

That’s Sick

The good news is that I feel slightly better this morning. I don’t have mucus clogging up my nose and head anymore.

The bad news is that snot ran down my face all night long (I’m classy, I know). And I had to wake up every hour to run and grab a tissue. Yeah, I should have just kept tissue next to the bed. That would be the smart thing to do. But I didn’t. Enough said.

Have you tried the cool touch Kleenex yet? It’s pretty amazing – it’s cold when you blow your nose and feels just delightful. This Kleenex technology is amazing, I tell ya.

You are probably wondering how I got sick. Well, I’ll tell you – I got sick because my son was sick and he likes to share his germs. Maybe you’re wondering how he got sick. I’ll tell you that too.

The other day, we were walking to the car, and my son takes his finger and runs it along the dirty nasty car. Then he proceeds to lick his finger.

I was pretty appalled for a moment and then I asked him what would possess him to lick his finger that he just put into dirt, dust, and probably bird poop.

I wanted to see what it tasted like.

What?! You seriously had the urge to find out what dirty car tastes like?! I’ll tell you – it tastes like crap.

And that, my friends, is probably why my son is sick all the time.

I lick cars because I am an ANIMAL

 

Moving on…

Danny is going¬†to the gym without me today. I told him that wasn’t very nice. Then he reminded me that I’m going to Body Pump. Oh yeah. Here’s to hoping that I don’t have snot running down my face while I’m doing those squats.

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning was seventeen a couple of bowls of Bear Naked honey almond cereal. I have already made a considerable dent in this box of cereal…and I just bought it yesterday. Hey, at least it wasn’t Cocoa Puffs. Those things would have been gone in 5.6 seconds flat.

I’m bringing an Odwalla vanilla protein drink for after Body Pump. The grocery store¬†was out of the chocolate, so I had to suck it up and buy vanilla.

We’ll see how it compares to the chocolate.

P.S. I had Danny proofread this before I posted it, and he said that I should be embarrassed that I am telling the world that I had snot running down my face. I’m not.

Simply Craptastic

Usually when I’m sick, I wake up feeling crappy and then feel¬†slowly better as the day goes on. Well, this time is the opposite. I woke up feeling crappy, and I have been feeling even more craptastic as the day goes on.

I went to the store to get medicine because the Mucinex just wasn’t cutting it, but Danny informed me that we had Sudafed at home.

Guess what?

We didn’t.

Luckily, I found Theraflu in our medicine cabinet. Unluckily, it tasted like garbage.

I hate how they put the little Lipton logo on it, like it’s going to taste like nice hot tea, but really it tastes like feet. And garbage.

And the dumb¬†Theraflu¬†didn’t even work. Now I just feel all funkified and loopy. Blah.

Yes, I realize that cartoon has a bad word in it. Sorry, Mom.

Lunch

For lunch, I made a bagel thin with two egg whites and two pieces of Muenster cheese and roasted broccoli & carrots. I also had a glass of orange juice because that’s what I drink when I’m sick.

I realize that I eat the same foods all the time. But I’m a picky eater and I like what I like.

I also realize that I post a lot of pictures of myself in my car (thanks to my brother for bringing this to my attention…everyday). But when your alone, it’s easiest to take a self-pic in the car. So, I believe that I’ll keep posting them.

So Smooth

I woke up this morning still feeling pretty crappy. I took a Mucinex (which I steal from my brother), but I swear that stuff makes me feel all funky. And my nose and head are still clogged. I figured that since it was only a head cold that I would still head to the gym.

But first,I made breakfast #1 – a smoothie!

My smoothie consisted of strawberry Greek yogurt, frozen strawberries, frozen mango, ice, orange juice, and almond milk.

My son loves smoothies too, and it’s a great way for him to get fruit in his diet (and veggies when I sneak in spinach). Of course, he also had to take a picture of his smoothie.

I drank my smoothie on the way to the gym, and saved what was left for after my workout. I didn’t have¬†a workout buddy today since Danny stayed home with Jaden.

At the gym I did a mix of cardio machines.

  • 32 minutes elliptical
  • 20 minutes stairmaster
  • 12 minutes bike
  • 5 minutes stretching
  • Total: 64 minutes cardio

I sweat that most on the stairmaster – that thing is tough.

I drank the rest of my smoothie on the way home. It was still nice and cold because it is freezing out here today.

When I got home, I had breakfast #2. Bear Naked honey almond cereal. I tried the maple flavor last time, and I decided that I like the honey almond flavor better.

I probably ate half the box. That’s my problem with cereal – I can’t just eat one bowl…or three. It’s more like seven bowls. That’s why I don’t buy cereal too often. But at least Bear Naked has 4 grams of protein per serving.

Right now, Danny and Jaden¬†are playing Mario on the Wii and fighting about it. Jeesh. Who fights with a four-year old about Mario and Luigi? It’s pretty entertaining actually.

Do you like playing video games?

I loved playing Mario Bros. and Zelda when I was younger. Now I play Mario and Wii bowling with the kids. And sometimes when the kids go to sleep, Danny and I play Mario Party. It’s fun.

ThinkThin Makes me Happy

So, a while ago on Facebook, thinkThin products were giving away a box of thinkThin bars to people who emailed them saying how they stayed healthy or something like that. Well, I emailed them and pretty much forgot about it.

Guess what showed up in the mail today?

thinkThin bars!

And not just one box…

Two boxes!¬†I’m not sure if that was on purpose or on accident, but I’ll take it. That’s 12 thinkThin¬†bars.¬†Awesome. I love these things. My favorite is the thinkThin crunch, but sadly there was none of those in the box.

That’s okay though, because there was thinkThin bites – little tiny 100 calories bars with 5 grams of protein. So cute and little.

Pretty awesome of thinkThin¬†to give these away to people on Facebook. It’s like Christmas came early. I can’t wait to try some of these flavors, especially the chocolate toffee nut.

My Workout Buddy

I realize that most of my pictures feature me without make-up, crazy hair, and usually sweaty. Probably because that’s how I spend most of my time – I love sweatpants, I can’t help it. They are so comfy-cozy. But I promise that I don’t always look like a bum.

Sometimes I look crazed:

Sometimes I look a little too happy.

But at least I didn’t look bum-like in any of those pictures.

Last night we went to Noodles and Company for dinner, even though Danny and my brother tried to talk me out of it. My brother even went as far as calling me and telling me that they were closed.

They weren’t.

I can’t help my intense love for pasta fresca. I was born with it.

I let my four-year old drive to Noodles and Company.

 

Just kidding. Jeesh. He’s not allowed to drive until he’s at least eight.

I had the delicious pasta fresca, which I have every time.

I ate my pasta with chopsticks and chopstick helpers. My brother says that chopstick helpers are cheating. I say they’re legit. Just because he’s fancy and can use chopsticks without helpers, doesn’t mean that I need to.

After we ate, Danny talked us into going to Oberweis for ice cream. The boys played chess with Uncle Paul while we waited for our ice cream.

I had a peppermint shake. It was good, but not super pepperminty. I wish it was a bit more flavorful. But I am also getting a cold, so that might have affected my taste buds.

Today

This morning I woke up feeling like crud buckets. I’m getting a cold, of course. My head feels all cloudy and I’m all stuffed up. I decided to go to the gym instead of Body Pump today.

But first I ate breakfast. I wasn’t super hungry. I just had raspberry greek yogurt with a few honey nut Cheerios for crunch.

I had a workout buddy at the gym today!

Danny has the week off of work, so we were able to go to the gym together after we dropped the kids off at school. After not working out for a few days because of the holidays, I was happy to get a good workout in.

Workout

  • 2.3 miles on the treadmill
  • 20 minutes on the stairmaster
  • arms strength training – biceps curls, shoulder press, and triceps on a stability ball using 16 lbs. 12 reps, 3 sets
  • 36 sit-ups on an incline bench with 4 lb. ball
  • 10 minutes stretching

I was super sweaty by the time we left the gym. That stairmaster is a killer. Even going slow, I sweat buckets. But it felt good to get a good workout in.

After the gym, I had a Cascadian Farm granola bar. I love the pretzels and chocolate in this bar.

Danny didn’t bring a snack, so he ate half of it.

Then we headed to the post office, so that I could mail out the cookies for the Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap. I am so excited to get these cookies shipped out. I worked hard on them this weekend, and can’t wait to get my cookies in return.

Lunch

We had lunch at Panera Bread. For some reason, we eat out more when Danny’s home. Why is that? I had broccoli cheddar soup and a¬†Mediterranean¬†veggie sandwich. I also had orange juice because I’m still felling sick, and for some reason I always want oj when I don’t feel well.

I’m still not feeling too well, so I’ll probably just spend this afternoon resting.

Is there anything that you crave when you’re sick? I like orange juice and my snuggie.

Breakfast with Santa

This morning we pretty much rolled out of bed and took the kids to breakfast with Santa.

This is why I ended up looking like a bum at breakfast Рno makeup and sweatpants. Oh wait, I always look like a bum Рno make-up and sweatpants must be my signature look.

Why yes, I do have on reindeer antlers. Thanks for noticing. Danny and I figured that since the kids didn’t want to wear the antlers, that someone should at least wear them. And I nominated us.

I swear that I don’t always look like a bum… just most if the time. I looked halfway decent this afternoon. Or at least better than I did this morning…

The kids had fun at breakfast. They ate, sang Christmas carols, and listened to Santa read a story. We have gone to¬†breakfast with santa¬†for about five years now. And every year the kids get¬†the exact same¬†t-shirt with the year on it – so, I think they have five shirts each now. Only this year the t-shirt didn’t have the year on it.

I think that they got smart and realized that if they don’t put the year on the shirt, then they can reuse the shirts next year. Smart cookies those breakfast with santa elves.

The rest of the day was spent doing some errands and laundry. Oh wait, I didn’t do any laundry – that must have been Danny.

Danny has the upcoming week off of work, which will be nice because I’ll be able to go to the gym a few mornings.

Give the Gift of Fitness

I feel like the holidays come so fast every year. When I was little, it used to seem like an eternity before Christmas came around. And Christmas Eve night seemed to drag on, like the night was never going to end.

But as an adult, it seem like the holidays are here again in the blink of an eye! What do you mean it’s Christmas Eve, I just got done marching in the Fourth of July parade.

With the holidays being a little under a month away, I put together a list of some gifts for the special fitness someone in your life.

1. A gym membership or exercise dvd’s. A gym membership is a good idea, if it’ll get used. But if not, an exercise DVD is a great idea. It can be done in the privacy of your own home and whenever you want. Want to do a little 3 am workout session? Pop that DVD in and get your fitness on!

2. A water bottle – it may seem simple, but you always need water. I always workout with water, whether I’m running, at the gym or taking Body Pump. The running belts can be pricier, but regular water bottles are great too.

3. A Garmin¬†Forerunner or Motorola Actv¬†- these devices are great for runners, but definitely pricey. Make sure that you really like the person that you’re going to give this too. Or if you really want that person to love you, buy them this.

4. Along the lines of the Garmin, is the iPod touch or nano.¬†Both come with Nike+, which also tracks your distance. And they¬†aren’t as expensive as the Garmin¬†or Actv. Or iPods are great for just music.

5. Workout clothes is a great idea if you know the person’s tastes and sizes. Who knows – they may want a workout shirt with one random white strap. Or buy socks – you can’t really mess that up.

6.¬†Running/Walking/Cross training¬†shoes – this is a harder gift to buy someone unless you know the exact pair that they want. But if you’re like me, you just send links of the shoes you want to everyone. Or hang a picture on the fridge…and the bathroom mirror…and the car visor.

7. For those long hair girls in your life, a headband is a great idea. I would love one of these as a gift…(hint, hint). Sweaty bands and Bic bands both get great reviews.

 

8. Magazine subscriptions or books. Some great magazine for fitness and health include: Runner’s World, Fitness, Women’s Health, Shape. There are lots to choose from.

9. Heart rate monitor – these are great to make sure that you’re working out in the right zone and intensity level for¬†maximal benefits.

10. Yourself – there’s nothing better than getting active and healthy with the one you love. Take an exercise class together, go on a bike ride together, run together, mountain climb together. Get muddy together.

I Love Thanksgiving Food

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday. I was lucky enough to spend the day with my wonderful family – including my aunt and uncle who flew in from California and my grandpa, who I had a cranberry sauce recipe contest with. (I lost miserably, by the way. The secret to good cranberry sauce is port and oranges, I’ve learned).

The food was wonderful, as usual. It included turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, carrots, cranberry sauce, rolls, and cornbread. There was no way that you could leave this meal feeling hungry!

Dessert was just as amazing, if not more delicious. We had pumpkin roll (my fav!), flourless chocolate cake, cookies, and pumpkin cheesecake. Next year, I might just skip dinner and go straight for dessert.

And after dinner you better believe that I changed into sweatpants. Is that¬†sociably¬†acceptable? Well, my family was lucky that I didn’t show up wearing sweatpants in the first place…

Today

I went out to do a little shopping this morning and look what I came across:

Ben & Jerry’s pumpkin cheesecake ice cream! Last month, I went to five different stores looking for this stuff. Yes, I am an ice cream addict like that. Of course, it’s once I stop looking that it actually pops up.

Well, I was super excited to find it. And even though it was 11 am, I opened that baby up.

So good! It’s¬†pumpkin cheesecake ice cream with graham cracker swirl. And the best part is that Danny doesn’t believe in eating pumpkins, so I get this ice cream all to myself! On second thought, maybe that isn’t the greatest idea.

This weekend will be a busy one – we have plans to spend time with my aunt and uncle while they’re in town & having a cookie baking day, dinner at my mom’s, and breakfast with santa. The holidays have arrived!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving!

I am very thankful for many things, not only today, but everyday.

  • My close family
  • My wonderful husband and two beautiful kids
  • My health
  • The roof over my head
  • Coffee

And many more things, but this is just my condensed list.

Thanksgiving found its way into breakfast this morning with a bagelwich and cranberry sauce.

This made me excited for all the yummy Thanksgiving food later today.

I was up early at 5:30 am this morning, taking care of my younger son who got sick last night, shopping, baking, and cooking.
