After I dropped the kids off at school this morning, I headed to my first BodyPump class.
According to the BodyPump website:
BODYPUMP™ is the original barbell class that shapes, tones and strengthens your entire body. Often referred to as ‘Pump’ by those who love it, it’s one of the world’s fastest ways to get in shape. This 60-minute addictive workout challenges all of your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises such as squats, presses, lifts and curls.
I was a bit nervous about my first class. I was worried that I wouldn’t know what to do or if I would be able to keep up.
I read on other sites that it’s a good idea to show up about 10-15 minutes early, just so you can get your barbell & weights and so that the teacher knows it’s your first class.
I got there about 10 minutes early and met the teacher. She’s was so incredibly nice and helped me out right away. I think the key to a good fitness class is having the right teacher.
She showed me the barbells and explained the weights to me and said that it would be better to start off with light weights. She said that the most important part is to have correct form.
I got my barbell, weights, and step. I started out with 1o lbs. of weight on my barbell. The first track (song) is a warm-up and then each following track works a different muscle group.
I really liked the teacher because she made sure to explain everything as she was doing it and was very encouraging. She was upbeat, fun, and sang along with the songs.
She also made sure that I was doing it correctly and let me know if I should change weights in between the tracks. The weight part is the hardest part to figure out the first class. But I know for next class that there are some tracks where I can add more weight.
It was definitely very challenging but fun. The hardest part was the lunges. I was pretty sure that my legs were going to turn to jelly and I was going to fall over, but I still kept up.
At the end there is a cool down track to stretch too. They even turned the lights off during the stretching, which kind of made me want to go to sleep.
My overall BodyPump experience was very positive. The teacher was awesome and very encouraging. And I will be sore tomorrow! I can’t wait to go back next week.
Things to bring:
I just wore my regular workout clothes and running shoes. I also brought a water bottle. Next time I will bring a towel to lay down on the step for the triceps and biceps track.
Other than that, everything else is provided for you.
